E. Horeau from notes based upon Corvisart's course of clinical lectures. . . . Corvisart differentiated between cardiac and pulmonary diseases, provided the first adequate classification of the symptoms of heart disease, distinguished between functional and organic disturbances of the heart, and was the first to divide the course of heart failure into three stages. He dealt with the pathology of the pericardial sac and the muscular and fibrous tissues of the heart, gave the first description of carditis, and pointed out the relationship between valvular lesions and the development of heart failure" Willius & Dry - pages 108-109: "Corvisart was one of the first to mention and interpret palpable thrills over the precordium in the diagnosis of carduiac disease (un bruissement particulier difficile a decrire) and he particularly stressed the diagnostic importance of the thrill in mitral stenosis. He described fibrinous pericarditis, stating that the massive deposition of fibrin caused the pericardium to resemble the reticulum of the second stomach of the calf. Corvisart also recognized tubercles of the pericardium and recorded an instance of massive pericardial effusion in which 4 litres of fluid were present" Sprache: English Very good condition with only minor signs of external wear.
