ANAKED, one: A personal statement on the subject of love, The Little Sand Crab
Privately Printed , 1972. Hardcover. Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Joseph J. D'Ambrosio. The wonderful piece of art is in an edition of 200 copies, this is #152. The book is set in 10pt. Century Schoolbook Bold and 12pt. Americana. It has 24 leaves consisting of art paper and id bound accordion-style: Yellow cloth over boards tied with green thread. Book is internally beautiful and binding is very fine. The book has 9 striking serigraphs each signed and numbered by D'Ambrosio. Anaked one is a two part story. The second story, part two, The Little Sand Crab starts on the last page of the first and cleverly the reader goes backwards through the book to complete the second story, which ends on the first page of the previous story. To quote the D'Ambrosio " In ANAKED, one, printed on the Adana press, I wrote two separate stories sandwiched between the beginning and the end of a third story. The word 'ANAKED is a composite of " ankh" and "naked," pronounced Ah-nah-ked. First, the reader finds the story of Anaked. The story is written in a manner which allows the reader to assume that it has ended. Then the second story. Emily and Oscar, appears. At the conclusion of Emily and Oscar, and the apparent end of the book, the reader finds on the very last page, the title page for yet another story, The Little Sand Crab. And since I bound the book in an accordion fashion, by continuing to turn the pages, the story unfolds."
