Somewhat later blindstamped pigskin on 5 raised bands with spine title. Reprint of the second edition of Denis Godefroy's (1549-1622) great Corpus iuris civilis (first published at Lyons in 1583). A complete, massive tome with all parts. - Attractive roll-tooled binding (c. 1700) somewhat rubbed; extremeties bumped. Interior shows some browning and insignificant waterstaining. Several early-18th-c. underlinings and marginalia; ms. ownership "J. Göbel" to t. p. (probably the German jurist Johann Wilhelm von Göbel [1683-1745], once collaborator of Leibniz, editor of Conring's works and professor in Helmstädt since 1741). Cf. Brunet III, 608.
