Contemporary vellum.

First and only edition in the original Dutch, of a richly illustrated work on military science from the early 17th century. The work is divided into four parts, respectively treating: fortification, heavy artillery, light artillery and logistics, and practical engineering and pyrotechnics. It stands out as a work directly aimed at the practice in the field, and is based on the warfare in the Dutch Republic. Under the Princes of Orange, Maurits and Frederik Hendrik, Dutch military equipment had become the best and highest developed of Europe. With several erased ownerships inscriptions, some insignificant occasional waterstains and some small tears in a few plates. Binding slightly rubbed. Good copy of this richly illustrated work on military science.
