Aphrodite in Aulis is the first edition and number 820 of a limited 1825 run. The Brook Kerith is number 234 of a limited 375 copies and signed by Moore and the illustrator Stephen Gooden. With 12 engravings by Stephen Gooden. George Moore was an Irish novelist, short story writer, poet and art critic. Moore originally studied art in Paris during the 1870s with a view of becoming a painter and during this time he befriended many of the leading French artists and writers of the day. He was particularly influenced by Emile Zola, and is often regarded as the first great modern Irish novelist. In gilt decorated vellum bindings. Externally, smart with handing marks and rubbing to boards. Offsetting and tape marks to pastedowns and endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright with just the occasional spot. Very Good Indeed
