First edition of Peretz Hirschbein's Yiddish children's book illustrated by Boris Aronson(1898- 1980), the Ukrainian-born American graphic artist and scenic designer for Broadway and Yiddish theatre. Peretz Hirschbein (1880-1948) was a Russian-born (Grodno Governorate) Yiddish-language playwright, writer, and theatre director who settled down in New York in the mid 1910s. His books "A mayse mit a ber" was published by Farlag Matones, a publisher of children's books which eventually became a leading publisher of Yiddish literature in the US.
