1672. Verlag [2 blank], [1], [1 blank], [4], 310 [1], [1 blank], [4], 108 pp.Second French translation of the first English edition of 1672, which was entitled The anatomy of vegetables begun by the English botanist, physician and microscopist Nehemiah Grew (1641-1712). The present edition is sometimes erroneously said to have been translated from that edition. Grew, together with Malphigi, is regarded as one of the founders of the science of plant anatomy. The Anatomie is especially notable for its descriptions of plant structure, but Grew also went further. He described the differences between stem and root and correctly hypothesized that the stamen, with its pollen, is the male sex organ and that the pistil corresponds to the sex organ of the female. Although this volume contains two texts on plants and their processes, it also contains the Recueil, written by Nehemias Grew, Robert Boyle and some other doctors and physicians. This text describes their reflections on the human body. All texts are printed at the same time: the quire signatures and page numbers are continuous. In good condition, only slightly rubbed on the back and with a tear of 5 cm in the engraved folding plate.l Bmc (Nh) Ii, p. 734 ("Wanting") Pritzel 3554.
