Portrait, xvi, 192, 199, 167 pp. Dark red morocco by Balmes, gilt supralibros to boards, spine lettered in gilt, turn-ins and edges. Paper repair to title pages of volumes I and II touching text, top three lines of text at II F4 affected by washing with some letters touched up in manuscript, else a fine copy.First Spanish edition. Very rare, translated from the second French edition This account of Earl Macartney's Embassy from England to China (1792 - 1794), was written by his valet, and it was the first to appear in print (first published in English in 1795). The work was immediately translated and published in several locations, testifying to the growing interest on the Embassy, the wealth of information and news provided by it.Palau, 11910.
