"Pouqueville's works are probably the most familiar of all books on Greece. Many editions and translations appeared of all his books, but especially of the Régénération. In this work Pouqueville's philhellenic sentiments find full expression. It is interesting to note the changes in his ideas about Greek emancipation which occur between the publication of this book and his earlier Voyage en Morée. His attitudes were much more conservative in the earlier work. Later he became an ardent philhellene, possible because of his experiences while he was consul at Ioannina with Ali Pasha. Several of the plates are reproduced from Voutier's Mémoires" (Navari). (Blackmer, 1346 - first edition). [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
