Large 4to, 290 x 223 mms., pp. xvi, 60 [61 - 64 adverts], including half-title, fine aquatint frontispiece, 22 full-page engraved plates between pages 56 and 57, viz: 17 engraved plates numbered 1-13 & 15-18, number 14 being the hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece (marked 'proof') + 5 additional plates (National Debt Redemption Office, 3; House of Lords, 2). engraved vignette on title-page, original boards (soiled), uncut, paper title on front covers; spine and corners worn but covers holding. With the bookplate of the architect Francis Wigg (1790 - 1868) on the front paste-down end-paper and and the inscription "Wigg & Pownall" on the recto of the front free end-paper, the latter being a firm of architects. A helpful note in Copac about the work states, "The text was largely written by W.H. Leeds (cf. Nash et al.). Four hundred copies were printed, 150 on large paper and 250 on small. The plates are imperfectly numbered. The frontispiece is an aquatint, and is notionally plate [XIV]. In some copies this plate is hand-coloured, and in some is present also as a line-etching (printed before the aquatint shading was added). Some copies were issued in paper boards, with a cover-label reading "The union of architecture, sculpture, and painting, in illustrations, and a description of the museum John Soane, Esq. Large paper, 2l. 2s. - Small, 1l. 5s. ." and a spine-label reading "Architecture, sculpture, and painting. Small [or "Large"] paper. 1827.".
