ALBERTI CHANOVVSKY è Societate IESU, in Provincia Boëmiae" [An Apostolic Man, or, The Life and Virtues of the Reverend Father Albertus Chanovsky of the Society of Jesus, in the Kingdom of Bohemia] "REVERENDI PATRIS ALBERTI CHANOWSKY è Societate IESV VESTIGIVM Boëmiae Piae. Seu: RES QVAEDAM MEMORATV dignae, quae in Boëmia, praesertim in Districtu Prachensi & Pilsnensi, vel ab hominibus sunt piè erga DEUM gestae, vela DEO hominibus singulari favore, aut etiam in poenam acciderunt" [The Outline of Pious Bohemia by the Reverend Father Albertus Chanovsky of the Society of Jesus ...]. The first work is the first edition of a biography of the Jesuit priest Vojtech Chanovsky (1581-1643), written by another Jesuit, Jan Tanner (1623-1694) the second work is the first edition of a historical and hagiographical book written by Chanovsky himself, translated into Latin and supplemented by Jan Tanner. Chanovsky took an active part in re-Catholicization of Bohemia, becoming famous (or notorious) for his devotion. Unfortunately, our copy of "Vir apostolicus" lacks two plates with engravings (the first one depicts an allegorical figure of Bohemia above a map of the region in which Chanovsky was active the second is a portrait of Chanovsky).
