2005. 35x52cm,[68+81pp] (2 vols). The complete set of drawings by Paul Thomas exploring The Iliad and The Odyssey, lithographically reproduced on thick Fabriano paper. Copy 3 of 25, each volume numbered and signed by Thomas in ink, bound in full dark blue buckram, The Iliad with red endpapers, The Odyssey with blue, bronze-blocked titles to backstrips, in a solander box similarly covered. Accompanied by a laid-in portfolio of thick white card with illustration ('Achilles kills Hector', not duplicated in the sequence of bound-in illustrations) to the front, containing a loose bifold sheet with texts inspired by the drawings by Elizabeth Cook, plus (in each volume) a laid-in bifold sheet with thumbnail images of all the drawings and their titles numbered to match the colour of the endpapers, plus explanatory text, and also laid-in a 4pp illustrated brochure from The Drawing Gallery, London, of an exhibition of the drawings and the book in January-Feburary 2005. A livre d'artiste on a monumental scale, comprising the entire sequence of Paul Thomas's 148 drawings exploring The Iliad and The Odyssey, superbly reproduced. Various exhibitions of the drawings took place in 2002 - 2005 and the two-volume book, as here, was published in 2005 an edition of just 25 copies. A colossal undertaking, and extremely scarce.
