First Edition of this epistolary novel by the female writer from Lyon Françoise-Albine Puzin de la Martinière, dame Benoist (1724-1809). A coquettish and voluptuous woman accustomed to Parisian mundaneness, initiated into Freemasonry, she took up the pen to bring justice to her sex and protested with indignation against the men of letters who claimed to be the only ones to know women. "Sa voix devient ainsi symboliquement représentative du sexe féminin qui revendique le droit d'étudier la femme de l'intérieur" (Olga B. Cragg, in the preface of the 2002 reprint of another novel by the author, "Célianne ou les amants séduits par leur vertu").
