Large quarto. xix, (1), 518pp; 519-1152pp. Illustrated with 2 folding maps, 17 hand-colored aquatints (7 folding), frontispiece in Vol. 1 and two leaves of music at the end of Vol. 2. Collated and complete. An account of the author's travels in the East accompanied by his friend and fellow student at Cambridge, Lord Byron. They visited Albania, Greece, Smyrna and Constantinople. The book gives an interesting account of Greece prior to the insurrection and an intimate view of the court of Ali Pasha. A good set with some rubbing and wear to the leather bindings which have been neatly repaired. The text in both volumes is very good with light wear. Vol. 1 has some staining to the frontispiece and to the lower corner of the last section of text. Vol. 2 is damp-stained throughout in the lower margin and to the reverse side of the folding map. The plates are generally clean with some light staining at the bottom. The last 4 pages of the Appendix are more heavily stained. A small library stamp has been neatly removed from the bottom of the title page in both volumes with a paper repair on the reverse side.
