George Barrows Obear
Electrical Engineering Manuscript Notebook from M.I.T., 1903--MANUSCRIPT
|Electrical Engineering Manuscript Notebook from M.I.T., 1903| 'Theoretical Electricity' notebook of George Barrows Obear for (what seems to be) 1903.  10x8", 157pp. There are also 5 smaller home-made notebooks of approximately 25pp. The notes are made in a clear, strong hand by Obear. One of the notebooks is identified with a rubber stamp as "Elec. Eng. Lab." which was at M.I.T. where Obear took is bachelor degree in this year (1903).  The exterior of the notebook and its binding are in FAIR condition, only; the text is VG.__+__ Some of the subjects covered include the comparison of circuits, effects of resonance, Wattless components in symbolic operations, electric transformers, AC motors, and much moreĀ—a very full 157pp of notes.__+__ Obear (1879-1944) took a bachelor degree from, M.I.T. and then moved on to Brown University where he received his MS in 1905 and Ph.D. in 1907/8.  He taught as an assistant at Brown and then as a professor, after that he taught at Colby and then at Case. Later in life Mr. Obear was in the Philippines during WWII, as a civilian, and died from the effects of beri-beri at Santa Catalina Hospital 2 November 1944. I have tried to determine what he was doing in Japanese-held Manila in 1944 at age 65, but could not determine the reason. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
