PROLI, Charles, comte de. 1723-1786
Catalogue D'Une Fort Riche Et Tres-Belle Collection De Livres Rares
J. Grangé, Antwerp, 1785. Proli's lucrative Austrian imperial contracts failed to offset the simultaneous collapse in 1784 of his international trading company and of his private bank, so he liquidated his possessions and died in 1786. His 10,000 volume library was auctioned in his house over twelve days. The collection was strong in history with a notable section of bibliography. Scientific instruments, maps, globes, bookcases, gold and silver medals and prints close the sale. Internally fresh. Blogie, Répertoire des catalogues de ventes I: 31. Contemporary blue wrappers (front wrapper partly detached), most outer and lower margins uncut [Attributes: Soft Cover]
Bookseller: Bruce McKittrick Rare Books, Inc. [Narberth, PA, U.S.A.]
