Firenze Niccolò Pagni & Giuseppe Bardi -1796, 1791. 107 (of 324) original colour engravings (c. 28.5 x 18.5 cm.) printed à la poupée and finished by hand, with captions pasted beneath, within frame of printed borderlines, mostly on original blue card mounts, a few on later card. Housed in a modern goldenrod solander box. Generally in fine condition. Includes duplicates of 7 plates (156, 200, 238, 245, 286, 308 and 273*; 2 versions of number 273 - one duplicated* - and 2 different plates of numbers 79 and 170. A fine collection of self-portraits of artists copied from the the paintings now lining the Vasari Corridor in the Uffizi. The full set comprises 324 prints although they were also sold individually. This collection from Baccio Bandinello (no.16) through to David Ludens (no.314) includes Giulio Romano, Paolo Veronese, Salvador Rosa, Velasquez, Antoine Coypel, and Peter Lely. Many of the plates (220) originally appeared as part of the Museum Florentinum (1752-62) and in Antonio Pazzi's catalogue of the collection of self portraits (60) and in this collection the number is expanded with the addition of new plates in the same format all without attribution to the engravers.
