"The carved cover is taken from one of the compartments of the prince's tomb at Canterbury, slightly altered for its present purpose"Printed by Vizetelly Brothers and Co. in red and black throughout, with four full-page and two text fine colour reproductions of illuminated manuscripts of the period.An impressive volume, bound with magnificent ornate papier-mâché boards, which have been very neatly and professionally re-backed in black leather. The outer page edges are triple gilt. Internally, there are later bright and crisp red end-papers, and white blanks to the front and rear.CONDITIONThere is a small chip to the top left corner, and a crack to the lower left corner, of the front panel. There is a neat repair to the lower fore edge corner of rear panel. These do nothing to detract from the impressiveness of the binding. The binding is beautifully firm. Internally, there are a few isolated foxed or browned spots, with a couple of scattered light grubby marks, and one leaf has some browning to the inner margin edge.
