ALBUM OF VINTAGE CYANOTYPES AND BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS OF CHIHUAHUA, CA. 1900
[photographer not identified], Chihuahua, 1900. 100 cyanotype and b/w photographs tipped-in pages of string bound photo album. Album with one hundred vintage photographs (cyanotype and black and white), from the city of Chihuahua, ca. 1900. There are some from El Paso, TX and Cd. Juarez in Mexico. It is a historical document, not a collection of a famous and less talented photographer. Unquestionably the photographs were taken by an amateur, most likely by someone linked to the smelter, by an engineer perhaps, who commonly made their plans on this type of paper and with Prussian blue and therefore on that same material they printed their materials photographic, hence they are cut. All that for me, far from being a disadvantage, is an added value that the album has that is nothing other than the look of an activity of a city and its economy through the exercise of the memory of an individual. If we take into account that historical photographs do not compete in a beauty contest, this album is an atypical case, since it is an exercise that condenses the memory of a part of a city like Chihuahua's. (wear in covers, water stains and apparent humidity damage in covers, detached spine, weak hinges, some pages detached, page between pages [26] and [29] is missing (cut-out), last page is missing lower-right triangular section of page, not affecting plates, some fading in some photographs, margins cut and photographs pasted down)
