Francis Carco Translated By Ford Maddox Ford [but really Jean Rhys]
Pascal Covici, Chicago, 1928. 1st printing in publisher's original shiny black textured cloth with titles in dark wine to front board and spine - all still fresh, clean and bright with the slightest hint of bumping/rubbing at spine ends. The binding is sound, tight and square. Internally very fresh, crisp and clean with no inscriptions or other marks. The unclipped dustjacket is complete [there may be a tiny corner clipping close to price at front flap but does not affect text and may be as issued] and has benifitted from some limited, very high quality professional restoration by a leading paper conservator mainly at spine. A lovely copy very scarce in jacket of this suspense novel set against the backdrop of the Paris underworld involving a prostitute and her pimp.It was translated by Jean Rhys but Ford Maddox Ford was officially credited with it claiming that Covici insisted on this for marketing reasons. A must for anyone hoping to put together a complete Jean Rhys collection. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
