Publisher's original full vellum with titles in gilt to the upper board and spine, in the original grey card slipcase with the printed label to the lower edge. Illustrated with 12 full page colour plates and 59 drawings in black and white by Arthur Rackham. A lovely fine copy, the binding square and firm, the vellum clean and bright. The contents are clean throughout and without previous owner's inscriptions or stamps. Light spotting to the deckled edges. Loosely laid in are the original card flaps from the perished plain glassine dustwrapper. Housed in the very lightly rubbed publisher's slipcase. A superb example. Limited to 525 copies of which this is copy number 40, signed by Arthur Rackham to the limitation page. Hand numbered on the printed label on the slipcase. This volume collects 24 of Hans Andersen's tales including The Snow Queen; The Ugly Duckling; The Tinder-Box; The Little Mermaid; The Princess and the Pea; The Emperor's New Clothes.
