Weber Costello
New peerless 8 inch globe
Chicago : Weber Costello, circa 1930. Terrestrial globe 8 inches in diameter, colour printed gores over pasteboard base, graduated equator band, ecliptic and Greenwich meridian, the oceans with an analemma, calibrated brass meridian ring, engraved calendrical paper horizon ring with zodiac laid on wood, supported on the original stand of four turned wooden legs united with cross-stretchers. A very fine example with no obvious signs of restoration, a rich and warm patina, the horizon ring being a modern addition expertly applied for decorative effect by the prior owner. A fine early twentieth century table globe showing the short-lived territory of Central Australia (1927 - 1931). Another example of this globe can be found in the Osher Map Library, University of Southern Maine, while the Library of Congress holds a set of the gores.
