BIP [Sherry Brown and Eric Sloane],
BIP Reknown Artist of the Southwest
Northland Press Flagstaff, Arizona 1981. First Edition Nine fine in red cloth covered boards with black text on the spine and on the front board. There is a tiny rent of 1/8" in the gutter of the front board near the head of the spine and the cloth at the head and heel of the spine is very gently rubbed. A square octavo measuring 8 1/4" tall by 8 1/4" deep containing 30 pages of text and illustrations. Interestingly, the title page shows a typo of "Reknown" instead of "renowned" as is shown on the spine of the book. The first free end page is stamped with "Archive Copy | Date _____ | Not For Sale". As noted on the title page, the book is illustrated by Eric Sloane with six, black on white, pen and ink drawings with the text being attributed to BIP (a dog, specifically, a dachshund). The author of the text is Sherry Brown as noted on the book's copyright page; however, Eric Sloane edited it, did the illustrations in the book, found a printer and got it published. Without doubt this is the most scarce publication ever illustrated by Eric Sloane. According, to Dean Mawdsley in his bibliography, The America of Eric Sloane, only sixteen copies of this book were produced; however, I have been told by the author the number was closer to ten copies. Needless to say, it is an extremely scarce item for any Eric Sloane completist. Our code number = TB24262
