Guitar Legend Jimi Hendrix - Performing on stage at the Isle of Wight, 1969.

Ireland, c.2012. - Rare, modern print of the 1969 Original / Vintage Photograph on archival paper. Image: 38 cm x 25 cm / Framed: 64,5 cm x 50 cm. From the library and personal archive of irish photographer John Minihan. Titled and signed by John Minihan. Beautifully framed. John Minihan is an Irish photographer, born in Dublin in 1946 and raised in Athy, County Kildare. At the age of 12 he was brought to live in London, and went on to become an apprentice photographer with the Daily Mail. At the age of 15 he won the Evening Standard amateur photography competition. At 21 he became the youngest staff photographer for the Evening Standard. For thirty years he remained in London, returning every year to his hometown of Athy to record the people and their daily lives. The work of Minihan in Athy makes up a large part of his canon. Minihan began taking photos in Athy when he was 16. The photos are an attempt to document the lives of the ordinary people of the town in their day to day business and also in times of joy and sadness, notably during the wake of a woman called Katy Tyrrell. In between documenting Athy on visits home, Minihan continued his career on Fleet Street, which included the iconic snap of the 19-year-old Lady Diana Spencer in the garden of the nursery at which she worked, the morning sun to her back, her legs in silhouette through her skirt. Diana had just been announced as the Prince of Wales's love interest and photographers raced to take her photo, Minihan having the fortune to turn up first. Over the years Minihan developed a close relationship with many writers and his photographs of Samuel Beckett show a particular affinity between the two men. Minihans photos of Beckett are some of his best known, one in particular is described as one of the greatest photos of the twentieth century. William S. Burroughs once referred to Minihan as "a painless photographer". Minihan is perhaps best known for his photographs of Samuel Beckett. Minihan first expressed a desire to photograph Beckett in 1969, following Becketts winning of the Nobel Prize for literature, having noticed that all the available photos of Beckett were of a poor quality; 'We were running a story but discovered there were only two very vague images of Beckett taken many years before. It was like he didn't exist - that was the moment I decided I wanted to meet this man and take his photograph.' Minihan first encountered Beckett in London in 1980, while Beckett was working on a production of one of his own plays, Endgame. Minihan met Beckett in the Hyde Park hotel and showed him some of his photos of Athy to break the ice. The two met on a number of occasions over the next few years, but it was not until 1985 that they met in Paris. They arranged to meet in the restaurant of the Hotel PLM, a regular haunt of Beckett. At ten to five, with the light fading, Minihan took the photo that would go on to be called by some as the photograph of the twentieth century. John Calder credited Minihan with capturing, 'the introspective, infinitely sad gaze of a man looking into the abyss of the world's woes'. Among his numerous photographic publications are Photographs: Samuel Beckett (1995); Shadows from the Pale, Portrait of an Irish Town (1996); and An Unweaving of Rainbows, Images of Irish Writers, 1996. He is currently a freelance photographer specialising in 'the arts'. His book of photographs of Samuel Beckett was published in 1995. His photographs of Athy have been exhibited throughout the world. He was given the freedom of Athy in 1990. Minihan currently lives and works in West Cork. Minihan's many exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world include the Museum of Modern Art, Rio de Janeiro, 1984; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris 1986; the National Portrait Gallery, London 1987/8 and the October Gallery, London 1990 as well as the Guinness Hop Store, Dublin 1991.         ELLEN VON UNWERTH: THE STORY OF OLGA - COLLECTOR'S EDITION

(VON UNWERTH, ELLEN). Von Unwerth, Ellen & Olga Rodionova. ELLEN VON UNWERTH: THE STORY OF OLGA - COLLECTOR'S EDITION. Numbered and Signed by the Photographer. Koln, GERMANY: Benedikt Taschen Verlag, 2012. First Edition 1/1000 Deluxe. Elephant Folio. Boards in Clamshell Box. Photography Monograph. As New/No Jacket - As Issued. 350pp, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. Text in English, French and German. "After a first foray with Bettina Rheims for Taschen's 2008 limited edition "The Book of Olga", Olga Rodionova now teams up with Ellen von Unwerth for "The Story of Olga" - a photographic narrative tracing the journey of a young widow who after the death of her wealthy, elderly husband, is overtaken by an insatiable lust. She searches for love only to find it in the arms of an unlikely source, far from the riches and extravagance to which she is accustomed. It is Olga's quest that makes this fairy tale highly untraditional: she is a heroine who is not afraid of her lust, and it is her sensuality that leads her to the happy ending she so desires. Set in a glorious chateau, replete with all the trappings of wealth and glamor, this collaboration between Ms. von Unwerth and Ms. Rodionova brings to life the enviable luxury of both fairy tales and modern desire". A brand new, pristine example of the 2012 first printing of the Taschen Collector's Edition limited to one thousand copies luxuriously bound in gilt-stamped red velvet NUMBERED (0436) AND BOLDLY SIGNED "Ellen Von Unwerth" in black marker across the limitation page in the publisher's clamshell box and unopened printed cardboard shipping carton, as issued.         Dale Morgan on the Mormons: Collected Works Volumes 1 & 2

Norman, OK: Arthur H. Clark Company, 2012,2013. 1/55. Two Volume set. 536, 496pp. Octavo [24 cm] Full blue leather with silver titles on the front boards and the back strips. Both volumes fine in publisher's shrink-wrap.This is one of the limited editions from the award winning series 'Kingdom in the West'. Each of the volumes in this series was issued in a limited edition. The limitation of each is 55, this is number 42. These limited's have been sold-out by subscription from the beginning, and there is a waiting list for the subscriptions. Each of the limited editions is issued with a printed keepsake. The keepsake for this set is a reprint of the Morgan edited 'Letters by Forty-Niners: Written from Great Salt Lake City in 1849' which was originally privately printed and distributed. Volumes 14 and 15 in the important series 'Kingdom in the West', are dedicated to the writings of the preeminent historian, Dale Morgan. Morgan scholar Richard Saunders has edited and annotated both volumes. Morgan's importance to Western and Utah scholarship can not be understated, the books and authors that he helped and provided research for is truly impressive: 'Mountain Meadows Massacre' [Brooks], 'No Man Knows My history' [Brodie], 'Mormon Country' [Stegner], 'Mapping the Transmissippi West' [Wheat], etc. During his life he was recognized more as a historian on the fur trade and mountain men, with his works on Jedeidah Smith, William Ashley and others, but his passion was for the history of his home and his faith. These two works cover his published and unpublished works on Utah and the Mormons. The first volume includes key extracts from Morgan's contribution to the WPA guide to Utah (1941), which remains an excellent introduction to the complex history of the Beehive State. It further provides a new historiographic introduction to his seminal work The State of Deseret and presents important previously unpublished works on the Kingdom of God, the Deseret Alphabet, and the origins of the infamous Danite society. In addition this set contains some of Morgan's bibliographic work, included is a reprinting of his scarce bibliographies on the schismatic Mormon groups (usually cited as Morgan I, II, III). At the heart of this second volume is a newly corrected presentation of Morgan's unfinished magnum opus, “The Mormons.” Also included are a number of forgotten treasures, including Morgan's still-definitive article on the Emmett Company, which headed west from Nauvoo in 1844 as the first party of westering Latter Day Saints; his privately distributed bibliography of the lesser Mormon churches; and the historian's last published reflections on the Mormon experience

Bronze du crâne du divin marquis

S.n. 2012 - - S.n. , s.l. 2012, 20 x 13,5 x 15 cm, autre. Founded in 1921 it is the longest running university law journal in the United Kingdom. Its current editor is John Bell. Based on the outcomes of the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise a 2006 analysis ranked the journal as overall the 7th most influential in the United Kingdom. It publishes articles on all aspects of law with special emphasis on contemporary developments, but the journal's range includes jurisprudence and legal history. A recent development is the Shorter Articles section for more topical pieces, which sometimes engages in controversial issues. An important feature of the journal is the Case and Comment section, in which members of the Cambridge Law Faculty and other distinguished contributors analyse recent judicial decisions, new legislation and current law reform proposals. The articles and case notes are designed to have the widest appeal to those interested in the law - whether as practitioners, students, teachers, judges, or administrators - and to provide an opportunity for them to keep abreast of new ideas and the progress of legal reform.
