Product Details Since 2007, Los Angeles artist Jonas Wood (born 1977) has been sketching Greek, Oceanic and African vessels at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. His relationship with the Met began as a child accompanying his sisters and parents, and when he began to make regular visits to New York from L.A. in 2007, he resumed his relationship with the museum, acquiring the habit of sketching the Met's ceramic holdings using a ballpoint pen on hotel stationary. Following each of these visits, Wood then created large-scale versions of the drawings in his studio back in L.A., reworking them in charcoal or pencil on paper. A History of the Met is the first installment in the artist's multi-volume homage to the Met, a project that accords with his well-known visual diary style and his fondness for portraying objects and places related to friends and family. 2nd Edition Hardcover: 24 pages Publisher: Paper Chase Press; 1st edition (December 31, 2011) Language: English ISBN-10: 0982617208 ISBN-13: 978-0982617205 Product Dimensions: 7 x 0.5 x 9 inches International shipping available at quoted cost USED STOCK IMAGE ACTUAL BOOK DIFFERS SLIGHTLY CLEAN NEW CONDITION OUT OF SHRINK WRAP NOT ACUAL BOOK PICTURED BUT SIMILAR.

Paula Sager
San Francisco: Pacific Editions, 2007. Condition: Fine - Signed. Number 23 of 38 copies, oblong quarto size, [36] pp., signed by Paula Sager, Lizbeth Hamlin and Charles Hobson. From the web site of Charles Hobson: "Red Thread, Two Women is a rhythmic, flowing collaborative poem, exploring human insight, discovery and personal growth. The poets, Paula Sager and Lizbeth Hamlin, are practitioners and teachers of Authentic Movement, a practice that is concerned with the exploration of relationship. In its simplest form there is a mover and a witness. The mover, with eyes closed, waits for an impulse to move. The witness follows or tracks his or her own experience while being present and attentive to the mover. The design of the book has been inspired by the poem and evokes the experience imbedded in the writing. The string/thread acts like a drawn line and can be moved around by the reader to change the "drawing" and the experience. The reverse of the book uses images of beets, accentuating characteristics of the poem - their string-like roots and the fullness and ripeness of their shape. The back pages also carry and emphasize individual words from the poem: voice, awaken, heart, distance, silence, tears, flame, breath, birth." The work includes an excerpt from Walt Whitman's poem "Crossing Brooklyn Ferry." DESCRIPTION: Original quarter red cloth with digitally printed paper label affixed to backstrip, digitally printed pictorial paper covered boards, housed in a red cloth slipcase, red paper pastedowns, concertina loosely affixed to the lower pastedown at the fore-edge of the … [Click Below for Full Description]

Glaister, Donald.
Vashon, WA: Foolsgold Studio, 2007. One of 60 copies, 50 of which are for sale, all signed and numbered by the artist / author, Donald Glaister, each book on pages of painted stiffened fabric on which dimensional constructions are mounted, text printed on Zerkall Frankfurt paper. Page size: 15-1/4 x 9-1/4 inches; 40pp. Bound by Donald Glaister: quarter leather made of Nigerian goatskin with wood veneers and cloth over boards, housed in drop spine box made at Book Lab II. The artist tells us that this new book is inspired by hand-made wooden sailboats, citing their custom craftsmanship, exotic materials and a balance of wild adventure and the need to survive it all. The result, he adds, is a happy combination of these elements resulting in a beautiful contradiction: a craft that is serenely graceful yet brutally sound. His book is an homage to the material and spiritual grace of these boats and to sailing. The text is a two-part poem with studies of the materials used to make sail boats, the spirit of sailing, and the rhythm of the sea. Most of the book's painted, stiffened fabric pages have original collages of painted cloth, wood veneer, brass, cork, linen thread and acrylic paint - all materials used in boat building. The poem is printed letterpress by Jessica Spring at Springtide Press in Scala Sans typeface. The result is an intriguingly beautiful book with images at once reminiscent of ancient Greek or Roman triremes or Viking Drakkar (Dragon) war ships, but at the same time completely contemporary or rather anticipating future designs. The perfections of Mr. Glaister' … [Click Below for Full Description]

Sheehy, Shawn Wilder.
[Chicago]: Paperboy Press, 2007. Artist's book, one of 15 copies only, all on handmade cotton / abaca paper, book board, and Arches watercolor board and linen thread, each numbered and signed in pencil by the artist, Shawn Sheehy, on the colophon. Page size: 6-7/8 x 10 inches; 22pp; one of which is colophon and one front pastedown. Bound by the artist: this copy tan paper over boards, tan re-purposed leather spine (variations in leather from copy to copy) with green paper strip marking join (variations in paper from copy to copy); pages hinged with tabs, endpages glued to boards to accommodate extremely thick pages with the popups. There are 8 remarkable pop-ups of mythical creatures in their mythical habitat; the names of the creatures are lettered in cut-out along the last quarter of each recto. The creatures in this fantasy bestiary (although based on actual organisms that are known survivors) are: Rex Roach, Clam Fungus, Dreadhead, Peteybug, Brownfield Pigeon, Bloomworm, Snapdragon, and Rotrap. The artist tells us that in Richard Leakey's book, THE SIXTH EXTINCTION, the five major catastrophes in Earth's history are delineated. Leakey theorizes that the sixth major extinction has begun, and it is human authored. Mr. Sheehy has used this as the starting point of BEYOND THE 6TH EXTINCTION, postulating a look at existing creatures in the year 4297 - which are phenomenally large and reproduced here in smaller size - using the ubiquitous polymer-based digital storage unit (CD) on each page to establish size. The text is set digitally in Joanna and printed from polymer plates … [Click Below for Full Description]

Eliot, T. S.; Vendler, Helen (Essay on the Poem); Kitaj, R. B. (Artist); Livingstone, Marco (Essay on the Painting)
San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2007. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Kitaj, R. B.. No. 65 of 300 copies, folio size, 67 pp. T. S. Eliot (1888-1965) is considered by most to be one of the major figures of twentieth-century literature, as a poet, playwright, critic, essayist and even a publisher. The long poem "The Waste Land" was hailed by critics everywhere upon its publication in 1922, and is, like its author, considered to be a central work of modernist poetry, perhaps THE modernist poem. It is here illustrated for the first time, though the works stand separately, like two pilgrims walking together for a time, eventually parting down separate paths. The painting "If Not, Not" by figurative artist R. B. Kitaj (1932-2007), is considered his masterpiece of 1975-76; Kitaj stated that the work has "a certain allegiance to Eliot's Waste Land and its (largely unexplained) family of loose assemblage". Throughout the book, small details from the painting are shown in isolation, the entire painting finally being revealed at the end. Included in this Arion Press edition is an essay by Helen Vendler (b. 1933), an American literary critic who has written dozens of books on Emily Dickinson, W. B. Yeats, Wallace Stevens, and Seamus Heaney, and is a frequent collaborator with the Arion Press. There is also as an essay on the painting by Marco Livingstone (b. 1952), an art historian who has written numerous books on the Pop Art movement; he was also a friend of Kitaj.___DESCRIPTION: Full beige cloth, with title in brown on the front board, brown lettering on the spine, fifteen … [Click Below for Full Description]

Baudelaire, Charles; Rothchild, Judith (Artist)
Verdigris, [Octon, France], 2007. Number 2 of 33 copies, forty-eightmo size, [9] pp., signed by printer Mark Lintott and Judith Rothchild, text in French. This poem by Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867) was intended as an epigraph for the second edition of "Le Fleurs du mal" [The Flowers of Evil], first published in 1857 and a major work of both the symbolism and modernist movements. Upon its publication, Baudelaire was prosecuted by the Second Regime in France and fined 300 francs, and six poems were suppressed for their erotic content (the ban on these poems was not lifted in France until nearly one hundred years later, in 1949) (n. b., info from Wikipedia). "Epigraphe" was never used in the second edition, but was inserted into the third edition of "Le Fleurs du mal", and the poem is printed here as an accordion book inside a case. This edition is heightened by rich prints by Judith Rothchild (b. 1950), with heavy drypoint marks surrounding the text of the poem and mezzotints at the beginning and end of the accordion. The darkly haloed eyes on either end of the poem evoke the challenge presented by Baudelaire: "Ton oeil sait plonger dans les gouffres. . .[Your eye knows how to dive into the chasms. . .]". ___DESCRIPTION: Accordion book in a case with quarter grey cloth with marbled paper covered boards, title in black on the front board, grey paper spine lable with black lettering, green paste-down endpapers, accordion with green paper front board with title in black, attached to the back board of the case by the last page, title page with black-and-white mezzotint of a clos … [Click Below for Full Description]

Eliot, T. S.; Vendler, Helen (Essay on the Poem); Kitaj, R. B. (Artist); Livingstone, Marco (Essay on the Painting)
The Arion Press, San Francisco. 1952), an art historian who has written numerous books on the Pop Art movement; he was also a friend of Kitaj. ___DESCRIPTION: Full beige cloth, with title in brown on the front board, brown lettering on the spine, fifteen colour plates of Kitaj's painting throughout; Bauer Bodoni a … [Click Below for Full Description]
