Suite Française FIRST EDITION DOUBLE-SIGNED in VERY FINE condition

Chatto & Windus 2006 - It is not hyperbole to state that this was one of the most exciting literary discoveries of the century, and will surely remain so in the years ahead. This is a chance to own the UK first printing of the bestseller in collectable, very fine condition. This is one of a modest number of first editions that were DOUBLE SIGNED by both the author's daughter, Denise Epstein (who discovered the manuscript) and the book's translator, Sandra Smith (the book was of course published c60 years after the author's death). It is quite difficult nowadays to find an unread, fine/fine example double-signed with the full number string, and this is such a copy. Interest in this extraordinary book will inevitably increase further with the release of the movie in 2014. ABOUT US: It is our philosophy at N V to provide the astute collector with high quality books for pleasure and investment, whilst offering a service that is always friendly and helpful. EVERY listing has a sharp digital image (or images) of the EXACT book(s) that you are perusing. The accompanying description is meticulous and we guarantee that all items are authentic.         Entrance to the Greenhouse. Poem by Joan Finnigan

Moscow , Russia. 2006. Artist&#39;s book, one of a series of five all on Indian flowered paper, 2 of which are for sale, this copy with the last two pages of window-sill gardens highlighted with colored pencils by the artist, signed and dated by her on the colophon. Page size: 6-3/4 x 7-1/2 inches; 38pp; 4 of which are double-page fold-outs (including Colophon) and one of which is a double-page pop-up. Bound: by the artist: hand-sewn with exposed spine and tape, beige linen over boards, front panel with inlaid linen fabric, Indian flower paper overlay, housed in custom-made tan cloth clamshell box with label printed on paper on spine, fine. & In the colophon the artist states that while living in Moscow in 2004, she found herself missing her Maryland garden - and this book was the result. The artist lettered the text of her friend, Canadian poet Joan Finnigan, on Arches Text Wove with Pelikan 4001 ink and a #4 Rexel nib and a Heintze & Blanckertz fold pen with walnut ink. She then scanned the lettering and a few simple drawings and laid the pages out in Photoshop and printed them on an Epson Stylus Photo2100 printer. She then returned to the pages with colored pencils and paint - dreaming of summer gardens while surrounded by the Russian winter. Joan Finnigan (1925-2007), a Canadian writer and poet, was educated at Lisgar Collegiate, Carleton University and Queen&#39;s University. She was awarded a Genie for Best Screenplay in 1969 for the film "The Best Damn Fiddler from Calabogie to Kaladar." She wrote over thirty books, many of them oral histories of her native Ottawa Valley which won several prestigious regional awards. Her poetry collection, "The Watershed Collection" was shortlisted for the Lowther award; "Wintering Over" (another poetry collection) was shortlisted for the Trillium Award. Her final oral history "Life along the Opeongo Line" was published in 2004. April 16, 2005 was declared "Joan Finnigan Day in Ottawa by the then Mayor. Her final volume of poetry, "Looking for a Turnout," was published in 2007.& Artist and calligrapher, Elizabeth McKee, lives and works in Maryland, but has traveled and lived around the world after growing up in New Guinea, Iowa and Australia. Married to a Canadian, Neill McKee, she has a son and daughter. She has studied occidental calligraphy since 1981, helping found the Calligraphy Society of Ottawa she is now an honorary member. She has lived and worked in Japan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda as well as Moscow and Maryland. She has participated in many group exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions. Her work is included in the collections of the late Queen Mother, the City of Ottawa, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, as well as private collections around the world. Her visual interpretation of her friend&#39;s verse is not only homage to the natural world; it is affirmation of life and the joy of that experience. Using at least five different lettering forms, Ms. McKee has created pages of deceptive simplicity - grouping words in one style over those in another - layer upon layer as a garden grows. She has done her friend proud. <br>See an <A HREF= http://www.bookrouter.com/im/juvelisbks/10736.jpg >Image.</A><br>

The Luttrell Psalter. A Facsimile. Commentary by Michelle P. Brown

The Folio Society. 2006. 2 Vols., 4to, a complete 624 coloured page facsimile edition of the Luttrell Psalter (British Library Additional MS 42130), limited and numbered edition, printed on Swiss-made Furioso paper, bound in blue Nigerian goatskin, spine with label and raised bands, with a design by David Eccles using motifs from the Psalter blocked onto the cover using gold, silver and coloured foils, with the Luttrell coat-of-arms of six martlets argent, covers with bevelled edges, presented together with the commentary volume by Professor Michelle P. Brown in a buckram-bound solander box with a leather title label. The Luttrell Psalter is one of the British Library&apos;s supreme treasures. It has more than 600 pages and the delicate task of recreating this masterpiece of English medieval art so accurately into a complete full size facsimile edition has taken well over a year to achieve. Every stage of the production process has been subjected to the greatest attention to detail, from reproducing the subtle effect of fine worked gold and silver that decorate the pages of the manuscript, to finding a modern paper which matches the weight and feel of the original animal skin vellum pages. The volume is accompanied by a scholarly commentary by leading medieval manuscripts expert Michelle P. Brown, which details the history of the manuscript and includes a folio-by-folio description.

A Letter of Provenance from Lance Speer is included. The book, clamshell case, and prints are in pristine condition. From the introduction by John Wood, "Flor Garduño is most well-known for her intense, deeply moving images from Latin America and her elegant but erotic nudes. The most distinctive quality of her work is its genuine freshness. It is the mark of a great artist to be able to look at what we all know and have seen yet give us something new, something we have never seen before. To be able to do it with the nude and with native peoples, two of the most overworked and, therefore, most dif¿cult subjects in photography, demonstrates not only genius but an inventiveness seldom encountered. Most photographers do not see through their own eyes but create work that looks like the work of other photographers. They may possess considerable technique and craft, but what is missing is a distinct style, a singular voice, an original vision. Seeing with one¿s own eyes is one of the most difficult tasks for any artist but especially the photographic artist because every photographer's head is filled with tens of thousands of photographs she or he has seen. The question is how one can see afresh in the midst of so much visual clutter ¿ wonderful clutter, of course ¿ Le Gray, Le Secq, Watkins, O'Sullivan, Coburn, Kühn, Weston, Sudek, Hosoe, Witkin, and on and on ¿ but clutter none-the-less. There is, of course, no easy way to discover or shape an original Vision. That is the gift no teacher can give." [Attributes: Hard Cover]

Flowers of Evil (11 Fully Signed Platinum Prints, Unique BAT)

21st Editions, South Dennis, Massachusetts 2006 - In 2006, renowned fine press photography book publisher 21ST Editions released Flowers of Evil. This oversized handmade book, in an edition of only 60 signed and numbered copies, featured the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and was illustrated with 10 bound original platinum prints and 1 free standing platinum print entitled Man and Woman No. 24. The prints are among Japanese master photographer Eikoh Hosoes most classic and sought after images. The platinum prints were produced by Stan Klimek of Stan Klimek Studios. This copy is the BAT (Bon a Tirer) copy of the book that was presented to Stan Klimek upon completion of the project. Each of the platinum prints is fully signed by Eikoh Hosoe. Please note that in the other copies of the book the prints are initialed by Hosoe and not fully signed. The edition is a work of art unto itself. The book and print are contained in a deep purple-red raw silk-covered clamshell box (18.25 x 15.25 inches) with magnetized hinged clasp and title stamped in black on the cover, lined with red velvet and with Japanese title blind-stamped inside the lid. The book is a hardcover of matt black anodized aluminum boards with the title printed in Japanese in glossy black on the cover with a black leather spine. The book and prints measure 12.5 x 16 inches (landscape). The text was handset by the Press & Letterfundry of Michael and Winifred Bixley, letter pressed on 100% cotton Cranes Rag Paper at KatRan Press by Michael Russem. The master bookbinder for the twelve bound images was Mark Tomlinson, working with a design by Skolkin and Chickey. As previously stated, the master printmaker for the platinum prints was Stan Klimek of Stan Klimek Studios. The edition features 10 bound platinum prints by Eikoh Hosoe as well as a freestanding, signed platinum print, Man and Woman No. 24 (5.625 x 9 inches), signed in kanji in pencil on the lower right margin by Hosoe, and contained in a separate protective folder. The free standing print is suitable for framing. The book has been signed in pencil on the colophon page by Eikoh Hosoe, John Wood (editor), and Steven Albahari (publisher). As mentioned previously, each of the platinum prints is signed in kanji on the lower right margin by Eikoh Hosoe. This is the only book containing fully signed platinum prints. All other copies are only initialed. BAT is a French acronym for Bon a Tirer (good to pull) a term that is used in the time honored print making tradition. The BAT is created by the Master Printer through the proofing process in collaboration with the artist or estate. Once the artist is satisfied with the print he will sign on the print BAT with his signature or if there was an estate it will be blind stamped. Once all of the BATs are signed these BATs become the reference prints for the edition to match. When the printer is finished printing the edition, the BATs and the completed prints are sent to the artist whereupon the artist will examine each print and compare it to the BAT before signing. The BAT is unique in that it is the genesis of the limited edition through the discovery of the printmaking process with the artist/printer collaboration. There is only one BAT created and it is gifted to the printer from the artist as a time honored way of thanking the printer. Upon completion of the project, 21ST Editions publisher Steven Albahari presented the BAT to Stan Klimek. A Letter of Provenance from Stan Klimek is included with this edition as well as a letter from the publisher Steve Albahari to Stan Kilimek thanking him for his work on the project.         THE VIEW FROM CASTLE ROCK

New York City, NY: McClelland & Stewart, 2006. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: McClelland & Stewart, 2006. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 360 pages. The author&#39;s twelfth collection of short stories. One of Alice Munro&#39;s greatest achievements. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. Presents Alice Munro&#39;s twelfth collection of short stories. It is one of her most beloved books, for "sentimental" reasons, justifiably so: Twelve is a Chekhovian achievement in terms of sheer quantity and quality, which are one and the same thing in Munro&#39;s case. Upon its publication, Munro prematurely announced that it would be her last, and that she planned to retire permanently. The back DJ flap sums up Munro&#39;s career and achievement by (almost diffidently) stating that "she has been mentioned as a potential winner of the Nobel Prize". Not anymore: "A stunningly precise writer who is often able to say more in 30 pages than an ordinary novelist is capable of in 300. Munro writes about what are usually called ordinary people, but her intelligence, compassion, and astonishing power of perception enable her to give their lives a remarkable dignity, indeed redemption, since she shows how much of The Extraordinary can fit into that jam-packed emptiness called The Ordinary" (Nobel Prize Citation). An absolute "must-have" title for Alice Munro collectors. <b><i> This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in blue ink-pen on the title page by Alice Munro. She signed on top of the page, making her signature even more prominent. Throughout her long career, Munro made very few public appearances, and is a reluctant signer at best. As such, most of her books are signed on a bookplate, which are much less desirable than copies signed on either the title page or tipped-in page. This title is a classic. This is one of very few signed copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Its value will not only keep but increase over time. A rare signed copy thus. </b></i> Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013. One of the greatest living writers. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ALICE MUNRO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0771065264.

The Meaning of Night : A Confession **LIMITED LEATHERBOUND EDITION, 5/25, SIGNED**

John Murray, 2006. 1st. Hardcover. Fine/n/a. Signed by Author. Hardback, first edition, first print. Beautiful leatherbound limited edition in Mint Unread condition. This is Number 10 of a Limited Edition of only 25 issued copies. SIGNED and numbered by the author. Synopsis: The Meaning of Night is an enthralling novel that will captivate readers right up to its final thrilling revelation. The atmosphere of Bleak House, the sensuous thrill of Perfume, and the mystery of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell all combine in a story of murder, deceit, love, and revenge in Victorian England. "After killing the red-haired man, I took myself off to Quinn&#39;s for an oyster supper." So begins the extraordinary story of Edward Glyver booklover, scholar, and murderer. As a young boy, Glyver always believed he was destined for greatness. A chance discovery convinces him that he was right: greatness does await him, along with immense wealth and influence. Overwhelmed by his discovery, he will stop at nothing to win back a prize that he knows is rightfully his. "Michael Cox&#39;s &#39;The Meaning of Night&#39; is the most recent example of what one might dub &#39;Victorian noir.&#39; As in a 19th-century sensation novel think of Wilkie Collins&#39; &#39;The Woman in White,&#39; John Meade Falkner&#39;s &#39;The Nebuly Coat&#39; or even Charles Dickens&#39; &#39;Bleak House&#39; its intricate plot turns on the question of who should rightfully inherit a great estate and a sizable fortune. Oaths of secrecy, "Washington Post Book Review"

A Bibliography of the Writings of Sir Winston Churchill, complete three-volume set in original publisher&#39;s shrink wrap and shipping box

London & New York: Thoemmes Continuum, an imprint of The Continuum International Publishing Group, 2006. 1st Edition. Hardcover. New. This is an as-new set of the definitive bibliography of Sir Winston Churchill&#39;s writing, still in the original publisher&#39;s shrink wrap and shipping box. Ronald Cohen&#39;s mammoth bibliographic effort reflects decades of work and Mr. Cohen&#39;s singular experience as both a collector and bibliographer of Churchill&#39;s work. The result is a most welcome replacement for Fredrick Woods&#39; worthy, but limited and now quite dated bibliographic work on Churchill. Comprising three volumes, Cohen&#39;s Bibliography provides extensive detail and background on publications by Churchill, his contributions to the published work of others, articles by Churchill in serial publications, reports of speeches by Churchill on other published works, and several other categories of published Churchill contributions and communications. The books are attractively bound in blue buckram with gilt stamping and red spine title boxes. The contents are printed on acid-free paper and each volume bears a red satin ribbon marker. This work is indispensible to any serious Churchill collector. That said, availability is limited, as publication was limited to 400 copies. This pristine set will come to you exactly as it shipped from the publisher. Bibliographic reference: Zoller A762

        Full Circle

Berkeley: Flying Fish Press, 2006. Hard Cover. Fine. Hard Cover. Number 60 of 100 copies. "Full Circle is a powerful exploration into the cycles of faith and belief from the first moments of obsession through the experience of deepest doubts, and ultimately passing through the place of peace where the mind and heart are (re)united before the endless cycle starts again ... One of Chen&#39;;s most advanced book structures to date, the ingenious wheel is not only a marvel of book craft but also an opportunity for a level of self-exploration leading the reader toward the realization that meaning may be encountered within the process of seeking" (Julie Chen). This elaborate book construction includes a large wheel which rotates beneath a platform of small windows which reveal images of the human body, text, and small objects. Three drawers can be pulled from the box as the wheel rotates and each reveals a small pop-up with printed text. A beautifully constructed and engrossing structure with poignant text about beliefs, infatuation, passion, and loss. Letterpress printed on a variety of papers with photopolymer plates. Box size: 15.5 inches by 15.5 inches by 3 inches.

David Hochbaum (born 1972) left his New York home in 1990 for Boston 's School of the Museum of Fine Arts where he studied photography, painting and sculpture. In 1995, he returned to New York and began showing locally almost immediately. In the following decade, Hochbaum's work has been seen in Germany , Sweden , Switzerland , Chile and in venues across the United States . Dedicated to the idea of community, Hochbaum strives to work collectively with artists from all genres and backgrounds. As a solo artist, Hochbaum's output is centered around the power of myth. But to understand his work, one must understand that the myths he explores have little to do with the gods and monsters of antiquity. Hochbaum incorporates the ideas, ideologies and iconography of his vivid dreams with the lives seen everyday on the streets of his native New York to create a new mythology. These visceral stories attempt to explain visually the unknown elements and intricacies of modern life. It is the desire to communicate the lessons of this mythos with all of humanity in a common, unmistakable tongue which drives Hochbaum's efforts, but it is the exposure of his inner demons and personal struggles that transform paint, photography and sculpture into catalysts for change and understanding.
