The Silverado Squatters by Robert Louis Stevenson Illustrated with 16 Photographs by Michal Kenna Arion Press, 2005 - Signed Limited Edition, 64 of 250 Signed by Michael Kenna FINE Condition with Original Prospectus First published in 1883, when he was twenty-nine, The Silverado Squatters is Robert Louis Stevenson's account of his honeymoon in California. The book relates the author's journey in 1880 from San Francisco to Calistoga and Mount Saint Helena, where he and his new wife and stepson spent two months living as "squatters" in the bunk-house of an abandoned mining camp called Silverado. Stevenson's descriptions of many landmarks in Northern California's celebrated wine region, the Napa Valley, are apt today and illustrate his greatness as a writer about place. Arion invited a contemporary British artist, the eminent landscape photographer Michael Kenna, to retrace the author's footsteps. The resulting sixteen photographs are of sites visited by Stevenson, including Mount Saint Helena, Old Faithful Geyser, and the Schramsberg Winery, mentioned in the famous chapter "Napa Wine". Measuring 9.5" x 6.75" with 160 pages plus 16 unnumbered pages for the stunning landscape photographs by Michal Kenna, the binding is hand sewn with cork over boards and a red-brown cloth spine. The types are Monotype Modern 8A and handset Craw Modern. The paper is German mouldmade Zerkall. The photographs were printed in duotone by Phelps-Schaefer Litho-Graphics. The book is hand numbered and signed by Michael Kenna. This is number 64 of 250. The original prospectus is laid into the book. Abou … [Click Below for Full Description]

Virginia Woolf
San Francisco: The Arion Press, 2005. Condition: Fine - Signed. Number 41 of 426 copies, folio size, 167 pp., signed by photographer Diana Michener. As was so aptly stated by the publisher: "Orlando has an unrivaled place in the history of English fiction. For this publication, Andrew Hoyem wished to offer readers a new visual experience, and so invited Diana Michener to provide photographs that suggest historic periods and the passage of time. The photographs are presented as fold-out montages, presenting varying views that further lend to the fantasy aspect of this "fantastical creation." WIT, Frederick de.
, . . Koeman, C & M 2 (1 copy, with 100 maps), cf. C & M 1 (based on 18th-century catalogues); V. Egmond, Covens & Mortier (2005), III.2 (pp. 143-145, citing Covens & Mortier's ca. 1721 catalogue). Extremely rare Covens & Mortier edition of De Wit's Atlas maior, first published by Frederick de Wit ca. 1688, but continued by Pierre Mortier from 1708 (when he bought De Wit's plates) and by Covens & Mortier from 1721, here with the engraved allegorical title-page and all 76 maps and their decorations beautifully coloured by a contemporary hand. It combines maps originally issued by Frederick de Wit, with ones from Nicolaes Visscher II and others. De Wit and Visscher were the leading map and atlas publishers in the Netherlands after a fire crippled the Blaeu firm in 1672. De Wit is known especially for the beautiful pictorial decorations on his maps. Only one other copy is recorded in the literature, at the Depôt de Marine in Paris. "Although the copies must have been numerous, very few are left." (Koeman). The atlas opens with Carel Allard's ca. 1696 world map in 2 hemispheres. Among the other maps are 6 of the continents; Nicholas Sanson's map of the poles; 2 maps nominally of the Ottoman Empire but including besides the entire Arabian peninsula, also most of Iran and either the entire Mediterranean Sea (Visscher) or its eastern part (Jaillot); Homann's map of Iran; De l'Isle's map of India, Southeast Asia and the East Indies (folding); Visscher's map of the West Indies; De Wit's maps of Malta and of Corsica & Sardinia. THOMPSON, Hunter S.
Hunter S. Thompson's most eccentric book in a new, limited edition The Curse of Lono is to Hawaii what Fear and Loathing was to Las Vegas: the crazy tales of a Journalist's "coverage" of a news event that ends up being a wild ride to the dark side of Americana. Originally published in 1983, Curse features all of the zany, hallucinogenic wordplay and feral artwork for which the Hunter S. Thompson / Ralph Steadman duo have become known and loved. This curious book, considered an oddity among Hunter's oeuvre, has been long out of print, prompting collectors to search high and low for an original copy. Limited edition of 150 artists proof copies, stated AP 056/150. Not to be confused with the 1000 copies of the regular signed ltd edition. Book comes as new in publisher's issued cloth slipcase which in turn is housed in Taschen issued protective cardboard box featuring Lono graphics label stating AP0056. Minor dents to card box. Köln: Taschen, 2005. [Original artwork] FIRST EDITION, trade issue, SIGNED BY THE ARTIST, with superb ORIGINAL PAINTING. Folio (39 x 30cm), pp.208. With numerous fantastical colour illustrations by Steadman, many double-paged. Publisher's white hardcovers screen-printed in black, colour-illustrated dust-jacket. To the half-title is a most personal painted caricature of author Hunter S. Thompson, dated 2006, in trademark blood red ink with flamboyant splashes, some of which are offset to the jacket. Both letters 'O' from the printed 'LONO' have been used to form the lenses of the good Doctor's trademark specs, depicted in typical style with cigarette and Lake Bucket hat. A fine copy. Originally published in a quarto format in 1983, this new folio edition features striking full-colour illustrations from Thompson's long-time friend and collaborator Ralph Steadman. Thompson died a month before this lavish book was published; Steadman's portraits of the author are scarce and desirable.

HUNZIKER, John James].
, . . Cf. Barker, Treasures of the British Library (2005), p. 203 (1862 Hunziker: "a marvelous example of nature printing"); Madhyastha et al., "A brief history of scientific technology... of South Kanara, Karnataka State", in: Indian journal of history of science, 17 (1982), pp. 260-267, at p. 264 (1862 Hunziker); WorldCat & KVK (1 copy of 1861 Coelho with 114 plates & 4 copies of 1862 Hunziker, some probably with 474 plates but incl. 1 with only 31 plates); not in Blunt, Art of botanical illustration; DiNoto & Winter, The pressed plant: the art of botanical specimens, nature prints...; Fischer, Zweihundert Jahre Naturselbstdruck; Kew Library on-line catalogue. Extremely rare set of 231 colour nature prints (no other copy known in the present form) printed using an experimental process by the Basel Mission Press at Mangalore on the west coast of India for the local timber merchant Venantius Peter Coelho (1813-post 1862). What appears to be the first book printed in this way appeared under Coelho's name, A small collection of Indian plants... printed from fresh plants, Mangalore, German Mission Press, 1861. We have located only the British Library copy, which has 114 plates. One year later, in 1862, the Swiss missionary John James Hunziker issued the present title in two volumes, said to include 474 plates, probably including the 114 that had already been issued by Coelho. The present set of 231 plates has three preliminary leaves from the 1862 edition, including the title-page of the second volume with "part II" struck through, and the plates are probably from that editio … [Click Below for Full Description]

Madrid, AyN Ediciones, 2005. 478 Seiten. Faksimile+ Kommentar (spanisch). Deutscher Begleitband von Prof. Eberhard König beiliegend. Geprägter Ledereinband in Lederkassette. Limitierte Auflage 995 Exemplare. Minimalste Druckstellen an Einband und Kassette, ansonsten neuwertiges und unbenutztes Exemplar. Cormac McCarthy
Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group. Condition: Like New. Cormac McCarthy. No Country For Old Men. Signed by Cormac McCarthy. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 2005. First edition / First printing. Special signed edition: One of an unknown number of copies signed by the author on a special bound-in page. Black paper-covered boards. 309 pages. Very fine in very fine dust jacket. A beautiful copy of this fine novel. This is a perfect copy, it has been stored flat in a dark room to avoid spine lean and spine fading. It was put in a clear mylar at the time of purchase and has absolutely no wear to the dust jacket. The spine ends of the text are crisp and unworn and unbent. I have looked at numerous copies online and in stores. Many have been displayed on stands, which leads to a canted spine and fading. Our copy is flawless. Basis for the Joel and Ethan Coen's film, 2008 Academy Award Winner for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Javier Bardem.
