GOODBYE, COLUMBUS & FIVE SHORT STORIES, LETTING GO (NOVELS AND STORIES 1959-1962) - Rare Signed Copy of The Library of America Slipcased Edition/First Printing - ONLY COPY ONLINE

New York City, NY: The Library Of America, 2005 - 1st Printing. Signed. 913 pages. Published in 2005. Volume One of The Library of America's definitive Collected Works of Philip Roth. The First Slipcased Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a small and limited first print run as a Slipcased Edition for distribution to libraries and LOA subscribers only. None of the copies were sold to the public. The Slipcased Edition has the same ISBN as the regular trade edition. The Slipcased Edition is now rare. Philip Roth is only the third living American writer to be so honored by The Library of America. Published in chronological order, the entire oeuvre consists of nine volumes in all and will surely be regarded as one of the "high spots" in The Library of America Series. Printed to absolutely the highest standards on acid-free paper, utilizing sewn binding, closely woven rayon cloth boards, satin bound-in ribbon marker, and a page layout that is both readable and elegant, each volume is guaranteed to last for several generations of readers and collectors (despite frequent and regular use, the estimated life span of Library of America Editions is 1000 years; un-used, they will last forever). Each volume is scrupulously edited and annotated by Ross Miller. The first volume presents the two books that inaugurated the author's long, productive, and stupendous literary career. "Unlike those of us who come howling into the world, blind and bare, Mr. Roth appears with nails, hair, teeth, speaking coherently. He is skilled, witty, energetic, and performs like a virtuoso" (Saul Bellow). "One knows when one is reading something that will permanently enter the culture" (Cynthia Ozick). "Our foremost novelist since Faulkner" (Harold Bloom). Philip Roth famously announced in 2012 that he has permanently stopped writing. Volume Eight and Volume Nine appeared in late-February 2013 and complete the Series. A "must-have" edition for Philip Roth collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by Philip Roth. The First Slipcased Edition was distributed to libraries and LOA subscribers only. None of the copies were sold to the public. As far as we know, this is the only such signed copy of the First "Library of America" Slipcased Edition/First Printing available online and has no flaws, a pristine beauty. Roth has not made public appearances or done signings in a very long time so signed copies of The Collected Works are now highly collectible. A very rare signed copy thus. "Goodbye, Columbus" won the National Book Award in 1959, the first of numerous major awards the writer has received. Six of Philip Roth's novels were selected as among the Top 20 works of American fiction of the last 25 years: "American Pastoral", "The Counterlife", "Operation Shylock", "Sabbath's Theater", "The Human Stain", and "The Plot Against America". One of the greatest living writers. A flawless collectible copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER PHILIP ROTH TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1931082790. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR.

Bloomsbury, London 2005 - HARDBACK - A very fine book that has been boldly signed by the author to the title page. The dust wrapper is in fine condition, and has not been price clipped. There is a copy of the original letter from J.K Rowling's P.A that accompanies this book. The previous owner wished to keep the original letter but was kind enough to print off an exact copy. The Half Blood Prince is probably, the hardest book to acquire signed by the author, as J K Rowling did not appear at any publicity, or signing events upon the books release. Bloomsbury did distribute a number of Signed Book Plates. Some of these book plates were sent to certain bookshops, some were given as competition prizes. An unread, signed book with excellent provenance. [Attributes: First Edition]

        Incendiary (Ltd)

Chatto & Windus, 2005. 1st printing 1st. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Signed by Author. SIGNED LIMITED EDITION. A superb copy of the UK first edition, first printing hardback - in a fine dustjacket - "A massive terrorist attack on Arsenal's new stadium - a woman grieving for her husband and son - a unique, twisted powerhouse of a novel. Angry, funny, heart-rending and subversive, few first novels are as compelling as this one. From the first sentence of her open letter to Osama Bin Laden, Incendiary's unforgettable narrator won't let you go, and her cry of raw outrage at the murder of her family rapidly develops into something very unexpected. Part thriller, part satire, part memorial to a dead child, it shows us an East End woman trying every way she can to climb out of despair, and a society in the grip of fear and self-interest. It is a story in which everyone is compromised - where personal betrayals reflect national ones, and Britain's class system is a ticking bomb. Shocking but tender, brutal yet hopeful, Incendiary forces us to see what we'd rather not see, yet never fails to entertain. The writing moves from horror to humour with terrifying ease. The power of the storytelling is mesmerising. Cleave has pinned a generation down on the mat and refused to allow it up till it admits it's rotten" - SIGNED & DATED BY THE AUTHOR

Corrugations; Some speculations on Australian Tin

Marcham, Oxford: Alembic Press, 2005. Two oblong quarto volumes. (22); (22)pp., accordionfold. One of thirty-five copies. The two volumes are meant to be opened in tandem: the first volume contains a poem by Anne Bell printed in grey ink, illustrated with color linocuts, including five pop-ups, by the Australian-born painter and printmaker Katie Clemson. Depicted are sheds, silos, water towers, factories, and other buildings made from corrugated iron. Clemson captures the look of buildings in the haze of heat, using pale yellows, blues, and shades of green. The other volume contains a long, continuous linocut depicting graffiti on the side of a corrugated iron fence. A celebration of the cheap, durable, and lightweight building material that has become an iconic part of Australia's architectural landscape. Both volumes are bound in metallic pastepaper and housed together in a red cloth drop-back box, which has a small silver corrugated strip inlaid to the lid. With a color linocut of a corrugated iron shack laid in, captioned "If houses could talk" in pencil and signed and numbered by Clemson. Also laid in is a broadside of the entire poem. Designed, printed, and bound by Claire Bolton. Extremely fine.

Hackney Wick [SIGNED AND NUMBERED, WITH ORIGINAL PRINT SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR]

Nobody / Archive of Modern Conflict, London 2005 - 1/100. Square quarto. Unpaginated. Original blue pictorial cloth boards with white lettering on cover and spine. Pictorial endpapers. Laid in is a 15" x 21" color poster, and a 6" x 8" archival original color print signed and titled on the reverse by the artist, and encased in its own cream envelope. Book housed in a handmade slipcase made from material that the photographer bought at Hackney Wick. As a result, every slipcase of the edition is unique. Hackney Wick sits in east London between the Grand Union Canal, the River Lea and the Eastway A106. Stephen Gill first came across the area at the end of 2002 when he was photographing the back of advertising billboards. His first visit was on a Sunday, to the vast market that used to take place in the old greyhound/speedway stadium. At first glance, apart from few pot plants, most of the items on sale looked like scrap ? exhausted white goods, mountains of washing machines and fridges, copper wire and other metals stripped from derelict buildings, piles of old VHS videos. Stephen bought a plastic camera for 50p. It had a plastic lens and no focus or exposure controls, and he started making pictures with it at once. Over the next two years he visited Hackney Wick again and again. The market closed in July 2003, and the remains of the old stadium were demolished weeks later as part of the preparations for the 2012 Olympic Games. This handsome book features 118 striking color photographs Stephen Gill shot there between 2003 and 2005. "Hackney Wick" was selected by Martin Parr as one of the ten best photobooks of the decade. Copy No. 92 of a total edition of 100 copies signed and numbered by Gill on the inside front cover. Custom slipcase and mylar. Custom slipcase and mylar in very good, handmade slipcase, binding, print and interior in fine condition. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

Thesaurus Laurentii a Brundusio : Pars I: Opera theologica et exegetica : Series A: Formae

Brepols Publishers, Turnhout 2005 - Top edge foxed, text edgewear near microfiche holder, otherwise light wear. Crisp oversize hardcover. ; Word lists and concordances in Latin; introductory matter in Italian and French. Accompanying microfiches housed in plastic pocket sleeves inside back cover.

        Arthur & George

Jonathan Cape, 2005. 1st. Hardcover. Fine/n/a. Signed by Author. Fine, First Edition, cloth boards. SIGNED by Author to title page. Issued without DJ. Wraparound band is complete and attached. 2005 Man-Booker short-listed. Synopsis: Arthur and George grow up worlds and miles apart in late nineteenth-century Britain: Arthur in shabby-genteel Edinburgh, George in the vicarage of a small Staffordshire village. Arthur becomes a doctor, and then a writer; George a solicitor in Birmingham. Arthur is to become one of the most famous men of his age, George remains in hardworking obscurity. But as the new century begins, they are brought together by a sequence of events which made sensational headlines at the time as The Great Wyrley Outrages. George Edjali?s father is Indian, his mother Scottish. When the family begins to receive vicious anonymous letters, many about their son, they put it down to racial prejudice. They appeal to the police, to no less than the Chief Constable, but to their dismay he appears to suspect George of being the letters? author. Then someone starts slashing horses and livestock. Again the police seem to suspect the shy, aloof Birmingham solicitor. He is arrested and, on the flimsiest evidence, sent to trial, found guilty and sentenced to seven years? hard labour. Arthur Conan Doyle, famous as the creator of the world?s greatest detective, is mourning his first wife (having been chastely in love for ten years with the woman who was to become his second) when he hears about the Edjali case. Incensed at this obvious miscarriage of justice, he is galvanised into trying to clear George?s name. With a mixture of detailed research and vivid imagination, Julian Barnes brings to life not just this long-forgotten case, but the inner lives of these two very different men. The reader sees them both with stunning clarity, and almost inhabits them as they face the vicissitudes of their lives, whether in the dock hearing a verdict of guilty, or trying to live an honourable life while desperately in love with another woman. This is a novel in which the events of a hundred years ago constantly set off contemporary echoes, a novel about low crime and high spirituality, guilt and innocence, identity, nationality and race; about what we think, what we believe, and what we know.Julian Barnes has long been recognised as one of Britain?s most remarkable writers. While those already familiar with his work will enjoy its elegance, its wit, its profound wisdom about the human condition, Arthur & George will surely find him an entirely new audience.

D' un monde à l'autre , TEXTE DES PYRAMIDES & TEXTE DES SARCOPHAGES XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX INDISPONIBLE

IFAO - Paris 2005. 1 Volume/1. -- Parfait état -- Broché cousu. Format in-4°( 27,5 x 20 cm )( 1175 gr ).
