JOSEPH MILLS: THE LOVES OF THE POETS - DELUXE BOXED, SIGNED EDITION LIMITED TO TEN COPIES ILLUSTRATED ENTIRELY WITH ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS

(MILLS, JOSEPH). Mills, Joseph. JOSEPH MILLS: THE LOVES OF THE POETS - DELUXE BOXED, SIGNED EDITION LIMITED TO TEN COPIES ILLUSTRATED ENTIRELY WITH ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPHS. Signed by the Photographer with Color Photographs. Tucson, AZ & Washington, DC: Nazraeli Press, Hemphill Fine Arts & JGS (Joy of Giving Something), 2002. First Edition 1/10 Deluxe. Large Folio. Ostrich over Velvet Boards. Photography Monograph. As New/As New. np (32pp), 26 color illustrations. "The Loves of the Poets", featuring Joseph Mills' beautifully raw, disturbingly seductive collages, is a work of art unto itself. This gorgeous artist's book published in 2002 by Nazraeli Press, Hemphill Fine Arts, and Joy of Giving Something features twenty-six collages that seem to be on the verge of complete revelation but time and again leave the viewer on a suspended note. The success of these images, in the words of photographic historian and curator Anne Tucker, "lies in the fact that they are anchored in reality just enough so that we are on the edge between surreality and reality." Beautifully reproduced with antique paper backgrounds and a rich double varnish, "The Loves of the Poets" brings the marriage of artist and book to a new level". A brand new, pristine example from the exceedingly uncommon deluxe edition limited to ten copies NUMBERED (2/10) AND SIGNED "Joseph Mills" in black ink on the rear colophon with full gilt edges, gilt-stamped green velvet covers, and green ostrich skin spine in which each of the twenty-six full page illustrations is an ORIGINAL VARNISHED COLOR PHOTOGRAPH laid down on the book's printed cardstock pages. This is housed in the publisher's black wooden box accompanied by its original cardboard shipping carton.         Lutherinszenierung und Reformationserinnerung

Evangelische Verlagsanstalt, 09.2002. - 280 S. Sofortversand! Gutes Exemplar, geringe Gebrauchsspuren, Cover/SU berieben/bestoßen, innen alles in Ordnung; good – fine Immediate delivery in bubble wrap envelope! Good copy, light signs of previous use, cover/dust jacket has some rubbing/wear (along the edges), interior in good condition Wie keine andere Persönlichkeit der deutschen Geschichte wurde Martin Luther von Theologen und Nichttheologen zur Deutung der eigenen Gegenwart herangezogen. 170701ac05 ISBN: 9783374019991 Alle Preise inkl.

        Why Orwell Matters.

Basis Books, New York 2002 - First edition. Octavo, original boards. Signed by Christopher Hitchens on the title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Vanity Fair and Nation contributor Hitchens passionately defends a great writer from attacks by both right and left, though he also refutes those fans who proclaim his sainthood. George Orwell (1903-1950), a socialist who abhorred all forms of totalitarianism, was, as Hitchens points out, prescient about the "three great subjects of the twentieth century:" imperialism, fascism, and Stalinism. In all things, Orwell's feelings were every bit as visceral as intellectual, and Hitchens devotes some of his best writing to describing Orwell's first-hand experiences with empire in Burma. It was there that he learned to hate racism, bullying and exploitation of the lower classes. "Orwell can be read," notes Hitchens, "as one of the founders of. post-colonialism." Orwell's insights about fascism and Stalinism crystallized in Spain, while he was fighting in the Civil War. Hitchens offers an excellent analysis of the writer's women, both real (his wives) and fictional, to show that the feminist critique of Orwell (that he didn't like strong, brainy women) may be unfair, though Hitchens also points out what feminists have ignored: Orwell's "revulsion for birth control and abortion."         Ein Hamburger Ulysses [Ulysses in Hamburg] [ARTIST BOOK - Caroline Saltzwedel]; Achtzehn Radierungen von Caroline Saltzwedel nach dem Roman von James Joyce [Eighteen etchings by Caroline Saltzwedel after the novel by James Joyce]

Hirundo Press, Hamburg 2002 - No. 6 of 10 complete sets (plus 2 Artist's Proofs), total edition 25, Folio - over 12" to 15" tall, unbound sheets with 18 etchings, each numbered and signed by the artist, text in German (English translation provided). Caroline Saltzwedel, born in England, has lived in Hamburg since 1995 as a graphic artist and painter; in 1998 she founded the Hirundo Press for artists' books in small editions. Her works are in numerous public and private collections including the Bodleian Library, and are seldom available to private collectors who are not on the Hirundo Press subscription list. Caroline's works are often paired with original, new works of poetry or are based on mythological or other classical figures; this work was inspired by James Joyce. As the short preface to the work states, "One hundred years after the first Bloomsday, 16 June 1904, a present-day Leopold Bloom travels through the Hanseatic City of Hamburg and repeats the adventures related by James Joyce, which in their turn are an elaborate play upon Homer's 'Odyssey'. The scheme is the same as in 'Ulysses': one image per chapter, each with a visual footnote to the source. There are no answers, only cross-references." One of the grandest of Ms. Saltzwedel's creations, with eighteen full-page etchings, each numbered, titled, and signed by the artist in pencil. ***DESCRIPTION: This work opens with a concertina title page containing brief notes by the artist (five pages), followed by eighteen full-page, stunning, multi-colour etchings by the artist, each of the etchings are numbered "6/25" and are signed by the Artist, each etching is also titled by her, all in pencil. The images are approximately 7.75" by 11.75" on Rives Moulin de Gue paper that is approximately 11.25" by 15", and are loosely laid into the box; type is Gill Sans, monotype and hand-set. Edition of 25 copies (plus 2 Artist's Proof copies), of which numbers 1 to 10 are presented as a complete series in a Solander box with the concertina title page and notes, the box is covered in sky-blue linen cloth with white embossed lettering on the front and spine, interior is lined with white paper. The title page and notes are all printed in German, accompanying the work is an English translation provided by Ms. Saltzwedel printed on plain white paper. ***CONDITION: All components are fine, as new; all paper is clean and crisp, the colours on the images deep and true, the box without fault. ***PROVENANCE: From a private collector who acquired this work directly from Ms. Saltzwedel. ***POSTAGE: International customers please note that additional postage may apply, please inquire for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Loosely laid in is a later (2008) invitation from the Arion Press to attend a "Celebration [of] the 400th anniversay of the birth, on December 9, 1608, of John Milton"; during the reception, "on display will be some early printings of Paraside Los, including Baskerville's, and the Arion Press edition". ***CONDITION: Fine, with the cloth binding clean and without blemish, a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings.
