J. Haig Gaisser, Pierio Valeriano on the Ill Fortune of Learned Men. A Renaissance Humanist and His World, Ann Marbor, MN, 1999, pp. 261 - 330; inoltre P. Pellegrini, Pierio Valeriano e la tipografia del Cinquecento, Udine, 2002, pp. 85 - 91). Edit16, CNCE27007. S. Bongi, Annali di Gabriel Giolito de' Ferrari da Trino, stampatore a Venezia, Roma, 1890 - 1897, II, 301 - 302. A . Buzzati, Bibliografia bellunese, Venezia, 1890, p. 12, nr. 16. P. Pellegrini, op.cit., pp. 156 - 157, nr. XXIV. (II) PRIMA EDIZIONE. C. Maddison, Apollo and the Nine: A History of the Ode, Baltimore, MD, 1960, pp. 105 - 109). S.P. Revard, Lampridio and the Poetic Sodalities in Rome in the 1510a and 1520s, in: "Acta Conventus Neo - Latini Bariensis, Bari, 1994" , Tempe AZ, 1998, pp. 499 - 507). Edit16, CNCE45474. S. Bongi, op. cit., I, pp. 288 - 289. \

Whitman Sampler One Chapter from Commodore Perry's Minstrel Show Woodcut illustrations by Jim Lee

Mt. Horeb, WI: The Perishable Press. 1999. One of 121 copies, all on various Japanese papers, this signed and numbered in pencil by the printer / publisher with the notation, "Spine piece awkwardly cut." on the final blank with the gold AIGA seal on the rear left corner pastedown and signed in pen by the author, Richard Wiley, on the dedication page followed by red "chop." Page size: 9-3/4 x 6-7/8 x 1/4 inches; 32pp; 21 of which printed. Bound by the printer in "an adaptation of Gary Frost's sewn boards structure in a variety of Japanese papers over boards" (including ream wrappers, reversed Serizawa calendar pages) some bearing metaphorical labels, spine tan cloth. Set in Monotype Gill Sans reset for effacement with some Gil Shadow titling for display, printed letterpress. Illustrated with four five-color woodcuts in the spirit of Japanese prints of the same time period (Perry) by Jim Lee. Selected by the AIGA as one of the 50 best designed books of the year. Jim Lee's four woodcuts are gorgeous, the colors sitting on the elegant Japanese paper with an elegance all their own. The publisher's hand- written notation about "awkward spine piece" does not take anything away from this very beautiful book, a chapter from the sixth novel by Richard Wiley, COMMODORE PERRY'S MINSTREL SHOW, a prequel to his PEN / Faulkner Award-winning novel, SOLDIERS IN HIDING. PP #125.
