JOHN GOSSAGE: THE THINGS ANIMALS CARE ABOUT, AND. - DELUXE LIMITED EDITION WITH A SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH

(GOSSAGE, JOHN). Gossage, John. JOHN GOSSAGE: THE THINGS ANIMALS CARE ABOUT, AND. - DELUXE LIMITED EDITION WITH A SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH. Signed with an Original Photograph. Tucson, AZ: Nazraeli Press, 1998. First Edition 1/32 Deluxe. 4to. Loose Contents in a Wooden Box. Photography Monograph. Fine/No Jacket - As Issued. Thirty-seven individual 10 x 8" cardstock sheets, 32 duotone illustrations. John Gossage's "The Things That Animals Care About, And." is a unique book cum object that presents thirty-two views of nature as they might appear from the perspective of an animal. The images are for the most part mundane and undistinguished to the human viewer, but perhaps integral to the daily life and well-being of a different species. Each is presented as a duotone black and white plate affixed to the recto of a matte cream-colored cardstock sheet that has an irregular horizontal pencil line that references perhaps terrain - or the horizon - drawn across it. These are accompanied by one blank sheet, two title pages uniquely lettered by John Gossage, and a hand-letterpressed colophon that are all housed in the publisher's 11 x 9 x 2" ramen wood display box (that doubles as a frame) with a Plexiglas face and sliding wooden closure with Gossage's hand drawn title silkscreened across it. A most handsome example of the exceedingly uncommon deluxe first edition limited to thirty-two copies containing an additional 4 ½ x 3 ¾" black and white silver gelatin print of two trees and a cloud that is reproduced in the book mounted on a 10 x 8" sheet of board SIGNED "John Gossage / 12" in pencil on the verso, as issued. PLEASE NOTE: Additional shipping costs are required for this item beyond our standard rates due to its weight and value - we will inform you of the applicable amount at time of purchase. 3-923922-53-1 Inventory Number: 025785

        Box of Ku

Tucson, Arizona: Nazraeli Press. Very Good. This edition of Masao Yamamoto's "A Box of Ku" includes two softcover books, both artist's proofs and signed on first endpaper, three signed original prints, and housed in a clamshell box. Also included are two prospectuses from Nazraeli Press. All items are in very good condition. Three b&w prints are of the same image of a cat facing two doves; all measure 4 1/4" x 2"; all are signed in black ink and have a red rubber stamp on verso; all are in very good condition with all prints having a crease down the middle and two prints have yellowish tones. Artist's proof books are both copyrighted to 1998, are large 8vo 9"-10" tall and are unpaginated; both are signed in black ink on first end paper; one book has very light soiling but otherwise both are in very good condition. Purple and black clamshell box has light sunning to top edge. The two books are a selection of Masao Yamamoto's small, yet extraordinary prints. His photographs "remind one of postcards or snapshots, records of intimate moments that are both fleeting and eternal, private and universal. Bent, frayed and stained, the jewel-like prints - most of which are small enough to fit into the palm of a hand - transcend their medium and become more than their subject" (Nazraeli Press). Image depicts the front and back of one of the prints. Due to weight of item shipping may cost extra. .

Important archive of J.K.Rowling material formerly the property of a sophisticated young correspondent.

Various places [London and Edinburgh], various dates 1998-2013.. Collection of ten items including original drawings and manuscript notes, collected by 'Freya', a reader, who first quizzed the author on the sexuality of her character Albus Dumbledore. Items include; 1. 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'; paperback reprint (1998). Presentation copy with original illustration of a serpent and a gift inscription by the artist Cliff Wright, ownership details to half-title. 2. 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'; Deluxe hardback reprint (1999). Presentation copy, inscribed by the author 'To Freya, it was great to meet you', together with an original illustration of Buckbeak the hippogriff, and a gift inscription by the artist Cliff Wright. 3. 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'; hardback reprint (1999). Presentation copy with original illustration of Harry and a gift inscription by the artist Cliff Wright. 4. 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'; paperback reprint (1999). Presentation copy with original illustration of Harry riding Buckbeak and a gift inscription by the artist Cliff Wright. 5. 'Quidditch Through the Ages'. First edition (2001). A paperback original. 6.'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. First edition (2001). A paperback original. 7. Lengthy TLS, on author's headed paper, with hand-written greeting, date and salutation 'with love' (2008). A4 size, 29 lines. A candid and open letter concerning the sexuality of Dumbledore; Freya had met the author on the classic (and somewhat conservative) children's television programme Blue Peter, where she had enquired, on air, if the character was gay. This was met with some prevarication by the author, admitted to within this letter, in which she also explains her evasiveness at the time (it was before the book was launched and therefore prior to the story breaking). Somewhat embarrassingly, the correspondent had also reminded her of the true sequence of events when it was later reported that Dumbledore's 'outing' had first become news at a promotional event at the Carnegie Hall. 8. 'The Tales of Beedle The Bard' (2008). Collector's edition, first printing. Elaborate jewelled (effect) leather binding in original box. 9. 'The Casual Vacancy'. Hardback (2012). Signed First Edition. 10. TLS, on author's headed paper, with hand-written greeting, salutation, and four-line manuscript note (c.2012). A4 size, 14 lines. A further candid letter, catching up, mentioning the adult content of 'The Casual Vacancy' and generously thanking the reader for 'sharing your thoughts and feelings' and wishing her 'all the happiness you deserve'. A remarkable collection of original material demonstrating a tender understanding and bond between the megastar author and an individual reader who had clearly touched her. J.K.Rowling letters in particular are scarce. A fine association.

        Kaldar - World of Antares

Royal Oak, Michigan: Haffner Press, 1998. 1st and Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Arfstrom, Jon. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. 235 pp. Special edition of 300, this no. 93, pictorial limitation page facing the title page. Edmond Moore Hamilton (1904-1977) is credited with writing, in 1936, the first hardcover compilation of what would come to be known as the science fiction genre, "The Horror of the Asteriod and Other Tales of Planetary Horror". This volume is a collection of three stories from the fragile pulp pages of Magic Carpet and Weird Tales magazines, and is the first hardbound edition of the stories. It features original artwork by 1940's Weird Tales illustrator Jon Arfstrom as well as an introduction by Edmond Hamilton's longtime friend, Ray Bradbury. Also included is an autobiographical article by Hamilton from the January 1934 fanzine, Fantasy Magazine (N.B., some of the above info from the Press' web site). ***DESCRIPTION: Bound in black cloth with gilt decoration and lettering on the spine designed to match the Arkham House editions of Robert E. Howard's "Skullface and Others" and William Hope Hodgson's "The House on the Borderlands", plain endpapers, pictorial limitation page serving as frontispiece, vignette of a creature on the title page, octavo size (just under 9" tall), pagination: (i-viii) being the preliminaries, (i)-iv being the introduction by Ray Bradbury, 2 blanks (v-vi), (1)-219, blank (220), colophon (221). The unclipped dust jacket shows the original price of $55.00, and displays wrap-around cover art by Jon Arfstrom on a black background, white lettering on the front and spine, short summary of book on the front flap, author and artist bios on the back flap. ***CONDITION: Volume is fine, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, the text block is crisp and tight as though the book has never been read, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings; there is a minute amount of rubbing on the gilt on the spine, else fine. The dust jacket is not price-clipped and is also fine overall, the colours on the spine are bright and true to the front panel (no sunning), the edges of the jacket are crisp (no edgewear); our dust jacket is the first state, with the black matte finish, and does show a few light scuff marks (per the publisher the printer shipped the books unprotected, and the black in on the dust jackets scuffs too easily and mars the finish); there is also a very light trace of black ink residue from the cloth binding on the verso of the dust jacket where the flaps meet the panels, else fine. ***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please contact us for details. ***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell. Please contact us with any questions you may have, we are here to help.

Nineteen years later, in 1962, "The Tales of Pryderi" was published by the University of Wales Press, with illustrations by Leslie Jones. Kyffin Williams, then rapidly establishing himself as one of the foremost Welsh artists of the century, also produced a set of illustrations to accompany Griffith's text. These line-cuts remained unpublished until Kyffin Williams generously donated them to Gwasg Gregynog in 1997, with this book being published the following year (N.B., above from the book's Preface).***DESCRIPTION: Bound in natural linen cloth, pictorial front pastedown, black spine lettering, brown endpapers, title page in rust ink, initial capitals in rust, eight full-page linocuts by Sir Kyffin Williams; folio size (approximately 13" tall), pagination: (1)-40, colophon (41); limited edition of 350 copies, this no. 245, signed by the artist on the colophon page.***CONDITION: Fine, as new.***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please contact us for details.***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB, and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.       [New York]: The Limited Editions Club (1998), 1998. Limited Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Ranney, Edward. 4to - over 9" - 12" tall. 30 p. Signed by Artist. Limited edition of 300 copies, this no. 56, SIGNED BY THE ARTIST ON THE COLOPHON PAGE, with monthly newsletter loosely laid in. Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (born Ricardo Eliecer Neftali Reyes y Bosoalto, 1904-1973) became known as a poet at the young age of 10 years and began publishing his verse at 15; Gabriel Garcia Marquez once called Neruda "the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language", and he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971. This volume is a portion of the Canto General (General Song) which consists of more than 15,000 lines, being a telling of the entire American Western Hemisphere from an Hispanic American perspective; it is a beautiful poem of praise to the continent as it flourished before the arrival of the Spanish. Wonderfully brought to life by the photogravures of the work of Edward Ranney (b. 1942), who has been internationally recognized for his images of Inca and Mayan landscapes and architecture; Scientific American commented that Ranney did "more than any other photographer to show the works of the Incas as they are set into numinous mountain landscapes that somehow called forth those superb forms into stone" (N.B., above info from Wiki and the monthly newsletter).***DESCRIPTION: Bound in rough green linen over boards, black leather spine label with gilt lettering, text presented in both Spanish and English in two columns, the ten photogravures bound in throughout the text; type Monotype Centaur on Velin Arches, printed at the Golgonooza Letter Foundry with the photogravures made and printed by Jon Goodman, oblong, being approximately 12" tall and 14.5" wide, unpaginated with fifteen printed leaves; limited edition of 300, this no. 56, signed by Edward Ranney; monthly newsletter loosely laid in. The clamshell box is covered in black linen cloth, black leather spine label with gilt lettering, lined inside with black velvet.***CONDITION: Fine, the dark green binding bright and unfaded, with a strong, square text block, solid hinges, perfectly straight corners with no rubbing, the interior is clean and bright, and it is entirely free of prior owner markings - crisp, as new. The monthly newsletter is also fine, as is the clamshell box.***POSTAGE: International customers, please note that additional postage may apply as the standard does not always cover costs; please contact us for details.***Swan's Fine Books is pleased to be a member of the ABAA, ILAB and IOBA and we stand behind every book we sell.
