The pages are clean, crisp, unmarked and uncreased with no underlining, highlighting, or notes. We package all books in custom cardboard book boxes for shipment and ship daily with tracking numbers.; "In his thirty-one-year association with the Gettysburg battlefield, Bachelder amassed a huge amount of correspondence with veterans which, luckily, he and his family preserved. These included letters from Meade, Longstreet, Humphreys, Warren, Early, Hunt, Howard and virtually every key player in the struggle who survived into the post-war period. Bachelder’s correspondents, however, were not confined to field and general officers. They included privates, non-commissioned officers and line officers. This mass of letters provided a remarkable eyewitness record of one of America’s largest and most important battles. Incredibly, Bachelder’s collection languished in obscurity for decades. His wife’s sister donated a large portion of the collection to the New Hampshire Historical Society in 1921. Here it remained, largely untouched, until the early 1960s when the documents were rediscovered by historian Edwin Coddington during his research for his magnificent study The Gettysburg Campaign, published in 1968. David and Audrey Ladd, with the help of Dr. Richard Sauers, have transcribed the entire collection, and added notes as well as an index. Also included are nearly fifty plates containing exact reproductions of maps and diagrams that some veterans drew for Bachelder to explain a specific action or point. The correspondence is arranged chronologically, but the very complete index allows the reader seeking a specific subject or correspondent to locate it/him quickly. These three volumes are accompanied by black and white reproductions of Bachelder’s 1876 three-map set on each day of the battle, showing the positions of every regiment and battery, and a four-map set of the July 3 cavalry battle. A square grid is laid over each map and the maps are referenced extensively in the notes to assist the reader in locating positions. These books should be on the shelf of anyone with an interest in the battle of Gettysburg. They are not only an indispensable research tool for any scholar or student of the battle, but the letters are fascinating reading in themselves, providing an unforgettable image of one of the epic events in American history."; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 2081 pages .

Signed NRA Target With over 50 Hits

1994. unbound. American novelist, poet and essayist. A primary figure of the Beat generation, he is considered by many to be "one of the most politically trenchant, culturally influential, and innovative artists of the twentieth century". Outstanding signed memento which captures the essence of Burroughs second love after writing - collecting his visits to the firing range: A National Rifle Association Official Army "L" Target, 14" X 13", for 25 yard slow and time fire, of which Burroughs, using a 22 caliber rifle, at age 80, has hit the target over 50 times, including 30 shots through the black bulls eye center. Burroughs has signed: "Such As It Is...March 4, 1994." Additionally signed by Spanish writer, critic and radical socio-political activist Jose Perez, best known for his critique of the 50th anniversary edition of "Naked Lunch". There is approximately a 20% loss of paper on the right hand side margin of the target due to its hasty removal upon completion of the shoot. This in no way detracts from the importance of this item which is otherwise in fine condition. In 1951 Burroughs accidentally shot his second wife Joan Vollmer in the head while drunk, an event that deeply permeated all of his writings. Years later, after a trip to the firing range, Hunter S. Thompson remarked: "William was a shootist. He shot like he wrote - with extreme precision and no fear.%u201D

        (Miniature) Seven Ages of Man

(Berkeley, CA: Poole Press, 1994). (7)ff. One of 45 copies signed by the artist, designer, and innovator, Maryline Poole Adams. Jacques's speech from "As You Like It" is illustrated with a tabbed, movable picture for each age of man. The schoolboy with his "shining morning face" walks to school, the soldier brandishes his sword in a pop-up tavern, and the justice, "full of wise saws," shakes his finger at a group of children who nod in unison. Most intriguing is a deathbed scene, which mysteriously develops color and some surprises. Mint in pictorial cloth. Housed in a double-door opening, wooden model of the Globe Theater. (Bradbury, p. 185). (2 1/2 by 2 1/8; 63x53mm).

Pale Fire A Novel. [and] Pale Fire A poem in four cantos from the novel of the same title.

      - San Francisco: Arion Press, 1994. 2 vols, large thick 8vo and oblong 12mo, 284, (1, bio. and 1, colophon); 81, (1, colophon)pp. Original purple silk, inset gold cloth lettering disks, brown slipcase. As new. Limited to 200 copies, this is a brilliantly creative presentation of NabokovÕs two fictional authors, the poet John Shade and the professor Charles Kinbote. Shade is the author of "Pale Fire" a poem which Kinbote explicates in a commentary. They create an interwoven story in which the lives of poet and critic are interlinked. Using internal evidence, Hoyem has established the lineation of the poem and recreated the set of index cards that the novel describes as Shade's manuscript. Rare in commerce and at auction, copies seldom occur for sale. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
