John Milton
Gloucestershire: The Whittington Press & Angscot Productions, 1981. Condition: Fine. Special Edition, number VII of XXV, of a total edition of 350, folio size, [37] pp., together with an extra suite of illustrations. "John Milton's (1608-1674) 'On the Morning of Christ's Nativity' is significant for its merit alone, though this remarkable poem is also important in the context of the artist's career. His first major work in English, the nativity ode reflects 'his desire to attempt the highest subjects and to take on the role of bardic Poet-Priest' (Barbara Lewalski, Life of John Milton 38)." (N.B., from the web site of Dartmouth University.) William Blake (1757-1827) had illustrated two other works by Milton before this, the third work to be illustrated by Blake for the Rev. Joseph Thomas. It is comprised of six watercolours, being almost literal illustrations of the text, which is that of the first edition of 1645. Blake's incomparable, exquisite and unique style is a perfect complement to this remarkable work by Milton, presenting a great English poet with a great English mystic artist. DESCRIPTION: Full dark-green Oasis goatskin, title in gilt to backstrip, top-edge gilt, fore- and bottom edges uncut, gilt single-rule border to turn-in, marbled endpapers, author's portrait and six colour plates tipped-in; Caslon type, Barcham Green paper with Three Poplars watermark, folio size (12.75" by 10.25"), pagination: [i-x] xi-xii [1-2] 3-24 [1 colophon], special edition, number VII of XXV, of a total edition of 350. 1981. Sex & Religion The Equinox Vol. V, #4 Aleister Crowley Marcelo Motta Rare 1st Ed SOTO RARE! The Equinox Vol. V, No. 4 Sex And Religion by Aleister Crowley, Marelo Motta, et al Published by Thelema Publishing Company, Nashville, Tenessee, 1981 First Edition VG Cond. Equinox Vol. V, No. 4: SEX AND RELIGION, published by Thelema Publishing Company, in 1981. This is the first, and only edition, of this very rare and controversial work. This volume was published a few years before the court case in the US, where the Caliphate OTO won the case against Motta, and gained legitimacy in the US, as rightful heir to Crowley, and sole copyright holder to his works, and to the OTO title, rituals and insignias. After this, Motta and SOTO were unable to publish Crowley works. Very Good Condition. Nice tight copy, with a dust jacket which is price clipped, and has some minor wear and aging, but nothing too significant, and is protected in a Mylar cover. Some very minor bumping to a couple of the corners, and to the bottom edges. Pages all clean. There is a faint odour of tobacco smoke. There is a small red stamp of a bee, on the bottom corner of the front free endpaper (see photo 5). There is also a small book seller's sticker pasted on the bottom edge of the title page (beneath the publisher's details - see photo 6). Other than that, this is an excellent copy of this very rare volume. This is a very rare and sought after volume, and will make a very valuable addition to any Thelemic library, or a private collection. Do not miss out! DÜRER, Albrecht and Marcantonio RAIMONDI.
, . . Bartsch 621-637 (also in The Illustrated Bartsch, vol. XXVII); BDPI 1630611; Delaborde 235-251; Shoemaker et al., The engravings of Marcantonio Raimondi (1981), pp. 22 et al. A complete series of 17 engraved prints of the life of the Virgin Mary, printed in Italy ca. 1685/90 from the original copper plates engraved ca. 1506 by Marcantonio Raimondi (ca. 1480-ca. 1527/34) after the 17 woodcuts that had so far been completed of what was to be a series of 20 by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Together with Lucas van Leyden, Dürer and Raimondi were the great pioneers of 16th-century graphic art, and Raimondi in particular established the copperplate print as the medium of choice for reproducing works of art from other media. The series is important both as a high point in the history of art and engraving and for its religious content, but also for the views it gives of life ca. 1500.The coat of arms on the slipcase matches Rietstap's arms for the Milan family Cavazzi, Counts of Somaglia. In very good condition and with large margins. Binding somewhat worn and with a few cracks and minor stains.

Tokyo: Kodansha, 1981. Quarto, 221pp., illustrated. A nice, clean, square copy, very good, with some foxing to the first and last couple of leaves. Internally bright and clean. SIGNED by Nakashima on the front free endpaper, and dated in the year of publication. Price-clipped dust jacket is near fine, perhaps a bit sunned on the front panel, and with an old sticker at the bottom of hte front flap. Also includes an interesting blueprint, which folds out to show several designs for chairs, uncluding multiple views and Nakashima's ideas behind the designs. We have not found any similar blueprints on cursory internet searches, but find it to be a compelling companion to this excellent book. The blueprint is stapled to a leaf of green cardstock. Very good in near fine jacket. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover; In Dust Jacket]
