ALBEE, Edward
1981. Hardcover. Fine. In 1981, Albee, the three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, was awarded a Doctorate of Humane Letters from the University of Charleston in West Virginia. His speech, on his own education, or lack thereof, and on how one is forever "wounded" by the responsibilities of an education, was published in a signed wrappered limited edition of 200 copies by Mountain State Press, with an additional 50 signed hardcover copies distributed by university professor William Plumley's own Parchment Press. This archive documents that publication. It includes: 1. Albee's hand-corrected typescript of his speech, nine pages, with "The Wounding: An Essay on Education" listed as a "possible title." Approximately a dozen small corrections in Albee's hand and with an Autograph Note Signed by Albee to Bill Plumley, dated July, 1981, transmitting the typescript, and asking Plumley to send *Lolita* back 2. An uncorrected photocopy of Albee's typescript, with a copy of the colophon as it is printed in the book. 3. Copy No. 1 of the 50 hardcover copies of *The Wounding* and Signed by Albee. Fine in a fine dust jacket (and with three extra copies of the jacket, folded). 4. A copy of the typescript of the (unattributed) remarks used to introduce Albee at the commencement ceremony, with an envelope addressed to Plumley from "J.P." In the preceding months, Albee's Broadway play adaptation of Nabokov's *Lolita* had opened and closed after 12 performances (and 31 previews), and the introductory remarks attempt to diplomatically explain Albee's temporary fall from box office … [Click Below for Full Description]

Stephen King
Everest House, 1981. The book is NEAR FINE: a book approaching FINE (or AS NEW) but with a couple of very minor defects or faults, which must be noted. Tight, crisp spine with no flaws to book itself. The slipcase is VERY GOOD: A book showing some signs of wear. Any defects or faults must be noted. Photos show minor bumped edge on slipcase as well as minor tear which can be repaired. Danse Macabre limited edition with slipcase, was issued in a print run of 250 signed and numbered copies. The limitation page reads, "This special edition of DANSE MACABRE is limited to 250 copies numbered 1 to 250, and 15 for private distribution lettered A-O signed by the author. No _______" This is #201. The limited print run and age of the book makes this an extremely rare collectable and hard to find in great condition. Based on the IOBA standards the book itself is NEAR FINE with no flaws and tight, crisp spine. The slipcase is VERY GOOD with typical fading and flaws found in the outer protective case so if there are likely to be flaws they will be limited to the slipcase or otherwise noted. There is a minor shelf bump to the upper portion of the case, and a small tear on the bottom. The tear can be repaired and I've listed this book at a price below other listings and with enough discount to have the case repaired at the owner's discretion. This book continues to be hard to find and when compared to other listings or ABE Books you'll see this is priced competitively and below market. BONUS! I'm including a copy of the uncorrected proof advanced reader copy of Secretary of Dreams Vol. 1. … [Click Below for Full Description]

PARKS, Gordon (1912-2006)
Dye transfer print, the 1958 original negative reformatted and printed probably in 1981. Image 19-1/2 x 12-3/4 in., flush mounted on archival card mounted to stiff Bainbridge Board. Signed in black ink by the artist lower right recto, "Gordon Parks." In its 1981 polished-face aluminum plexiglas-glazed exhibition frame 19-5/8 x 13 x 1/8 in. Fine condition, apart from a 2 mm perimeter strip of mat burn from a spacer in the frame, and a small, almost invisibly domed area in the black background top center. One of an edition of 25 exhibited at the Alex Rosenberg Gallery, New York in 1981, with the exhibition label on the cardboard backing of the frame. A pencil notation in cursive handwriting adjacent the label reads “5/25 GP.” The 1958 full image is the third selection in Parks’s volume of photographs and poetry, A Poet and His Camera (1968). The original image juxtaposes three separate exposures: the beautifully modeled hand holding the fan; the apparition of the face behind the fan; and the separate veiled visage upper left. The 1981 cropping masks the hand below and the entire left side with all the imagery of the second face. The palette, too, was simplified to exclude original oranges and olives in favor of overall reds and blues. A 1981 Cameron Crowe Signed "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" Book that is signed and inscribed beautifully with one of the coolest and most unique inscriptions you will ever find on this Rare Book. Just read the inscription for yourself, absolutely classic! This was signed for Cameron Crowe's good friend Ralph Sall who is the President of Bulletproof Entertainment and has a pretty lengthy resume as a record Producer, composer and song writer and has worked with some amazing artists and people. He also signed a letter on his Bulletproof letterhead stating when and how he got the Fast Times Book signed by Cameron Crowe because he was such a huge fan of the movie. You will receive the signed letter from Ralph Sall as well with the Signed Book. The book has some wear and is not perfect but is overall still in good condition. This was a book owned by Cameron Crowe and given to Ralph Sall when they were working on the movie "Say Anything" in 1986-87. You will probably never see such a unique inscription on this book ever again especially with references to the movie and that the cover model of the book Stood him up on a date! The Book itself is really rare and Cameron Crowe has turned down numerous requests and lots of money to re-release this book and he said he never will and that he likes that it's hard to find and that you have to really look for the book in order to find it, and this is a signed version of the Rare book that was signed over 32 years ago. Probably only a handful out there that are signed and I doubt any come close to how unique this one is. The inscription and s … [Click Below for Full Description]

KONT, Paul 1920-2000
Folio (304 x 220 mm.). [1] (title), 2-59 pp. Full dark orange leather with titling and decorative devices stamped in gilt to upper and "Sammlung Dr. Heinz-Georg v. Kamler, Wien" stamped in gilt to lower board. Notated in pencil on 12-stave music manuscript paper. With an autograph presentation from the composer to Dr. Heinz-Georg and Michaela von Kamler to title, signed and dated Vienna, November 9, 1981. Together with: Two autograph letters from the composer to the von Kamlers providing a description of the work, a performance of it, and news of the players (suggesting that the von Kamlers may have actually have commissioned the work) and copies of the published score and parts issued by Doblinger in 1990. Kont studied composition with Lechthaler, Polnauer, Swarowsky and Krips in Vienna and later with Milhaud, Messiaen and Honegger in Paris. The present work was inspired by the folk music Kont heard while serving as a soldier in Croatia in World War II. "Progressive pioneer who... startled musically insecure post-war Austria, or a traditionalist who is sometimes labelled a "Conservative"? - More contradictory verdicts have been applied to hardly any other composer in recent Austria's music scene than to Paul Kont. The notion of the "avant-gardist" ha[d] become manifest already in the first years after the war, when Kont - unlike many of his contemporaries - did not so much follow tendencies originating in Hindemith (and, to a lesser degree, in Webern and Schoenberg), but developed a polytonal style deriving from piano improvisation - resulting in the so-called phase of "ca … [Click Below for Full Description]

Milton, John; Blake, William; Butlin, Martin (Note on the Illustrations)
The Whittington Press & Angscot Productions, Gloucestershire, 1981. Special Edition, number VII of XXV, of a total edition of 350, folio size, [37] pp., together with an extra suite of illustrations. "John Milton's (1608-1674) 'On the Morning of Christ's Nativity' is significant for its merit alone, though this remarkable poem is also important in the context of the artist's career. His first major work in English, the nativity ode reflects 'his desire to attempt the highest subjects and to take on the role of bardic Poet-Priest' (Barbara Lewalski, Life of John Milton 38)." (n. b., from the web site of Dartmouth University.) William Blake (1757-1827) had illustrated two other works by Milton before this, the third work to be illustrated by Blake for the Rev. Joseph Thomas. It is comprised of six watercolours, being almost literal illustrations of the text, which is that of the first edition of 1645. Blake's incomparable, exquisite and unique style is a perfect complement to this remarkable work by Milton, presenting a great English poet with a great English mystic artist. ___DESCRIPTION: Full dark-green Oasis goatskin, title in gilt to backstrip, top-edge gilt, fore- and bottom edges uncut, gilt single-rule border to turn-in, marbled endpapers, author's portrait and six colour plates tipped-in; Caslon type, Barcham Green paper with Three Poplars watermark, folio size (12.75" by 10.25"), pagination: [i-x] xi-xii [1-2] 3-24 [1 colophon], special edition, number VII of XXV, of a total edition of 350. Susan Berman
BERMAN, SUSAN & ROBERT DURST. Easy Street - The True Story of a Mob Family. New York: Dial Press, 1981. First Edition, First Printing. Signed and inscribed by the author Susan Berman, the murdered writer and journalist, who was close friends with New York real estate heir Robert Durst who is being tried for her murder. The book is inscribed: "Jan 1, 2000, Dear Arnie: It was a pleasure to meet such a gentleman in L.A. Have a wonderful new year. Love, Susan Berman. P.S. I can't wait to see your documentary Pts of Light. I hope it can be rented." Illustrated. This is Berman's memoir of growing up in a mob family in Las Vegas. Fine in a very good dust jacket with a few minor tears. Susan Berman's relationship with Robert Durst and her homicide just before Christmas in 2000 was profiled in depth in the acclaimed 2015 HBO documentary series The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst, directed by Andrew Jarecki. In a 2005 deposition Durst reported that Ms. Berman had contacted him about how the Los Angeles Police Department wanted to talk with her about the unresolved October 2000 disappearance of Durst's first wife Kathleen McCormack, for which Durst was extensively questioned about at the time, but was not formally charged with a crime. As events unfolded, on March 14, 2015 Robert Durst was arrested by FBI agents in New Orleans for Susan Berman's murder. Ironically, the HBO documentary, for which Durst voluntarily granted lengthy interviews, contributed key new evidence to Berman's homicide investigation which eventually lead to the filing of murder charges against him.
