Pratt, Parley Parker & John Taylor
Duodecimo [18 cm] Bound in a contemporary 3/4 sheep over yellow marbled boards. Gilt bands on the backstrip. Better than very good. Foot margin of p.8 of 'An Answer to Some False Statements' clipped. Item #1981 Six early and rare tracts from the British Mission that show the early outreach and international aspirations of Joseph Smith. These works were the beginnings of a very successful European Mission system, and an announcement and defense of the then fledgling faith. - 'A Letter to the Queen.' Manchester: P.P Pratt, 1841. 12pp. Crawley 108. Flake/Draper 6597. Mormon Imprints 14. "This tract draws together several converging threads of Mormon thought. Its primary theme is one of Mormonism's oldest - the imminence of the millennium - but with a new component. Using the dream of Nebechadneezer in the second chapter of Daniel as a point of departure, it argues that all the world's governments are soon to be supplanted by a millennial government led by Jesus Christ and administered by His Saints, and idea that Parley Pratt earlier alluded to in his Farewell Song." - Mormon Imprints - 'A Reply to Mr. Thomas Taylor's." Manchester: W.R. Thomas, 1840. 12pp. Crawley 89. Flake/Draper 6621. "Both the second edition of Livesey's 'Exposure of Mormonism' and Taylor's 'Complete Failure' appeared about the time Parley Pratt returned to Manchester from the United States in October 1840. His Response was soon in coming. A Reply to Taylor and Livesey is as just published on the back wrapper of the November issue of Millennial Star. - s.d. [1981], 21,5x27,8cm, 5 feuillets. Stephen King
Everest House, 1981. The book is NEAR FINE: a book approaching FINE (or AS NEW) but with a couple of very minor defects or faults, which must be noted. Tight, crisp spine with no flaws to book itself. The slipcase is VERY GOOD: A book showing some signs of wear. Any defects or faults must be noted. Photos show minor bumped edge on slipcase as well as minor tear which can be repaired. Danse Macabre limited edition with slipcase, was issued in a print run of 250 signed and numbered copies. The limitation page reads, "This special edition of DANSE MACABRE is limited to 250 copies numbered 1 to 250, and 15 for private distribution lettered A-O signed by the author. No _______" This is #201. The limited print run and age of the book makes this an extremely rare collectable and hard to find in great condition. Based on the IOBA standards the book itself is NEAR FINE with no flaws and tight, crisp spine. The slipcase is VERY GOOD with typical fading and flaws found in the outer protective case so if there are likely to be flaws they will be limited to the slipcase or otherwise noted. There is a minor shelf bump to the upper portion of the case, and a small tear on the bottom. The tear can be repaired and I've listed this book at a price below other listings and with enough discount to have the case repaired at the owner's discretion. This book continues to be hard to find and when compared to other listings or ABE Books you'll see this is priced competitively and below market. BONUS! Bogota: Universidad Nacional de Colombia, 1981-1983. First edition.. A bright and clean copy in near fine condition.. (vol. I): pp. 354, 138 text-figures - some in color, 3 of 4 folding distribution maps (includes maps 1, 3, and 4 -- map 2 on ecto-parasites was never issued); (vol. II): pp. 270, 71 text-figures - some in color, 13 folding distribution maps. Publisher's simulated brown crocodile-skin over cloth (hardcover) with color pictorial stiff wrappers bound in place, sm 4to. This work provides a detailed survey of the distribution, ecology, conservation status of the caiman and crocodiles of South America including Trinidad and Tobago. Volume I covers crocodiles of Colombia. Volume II presents covers the crocodiles of Venezuela, Trinidad, Tobago, Guyana, Suriname, Guayana Francesa, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brasil, Paraguay, Argentina, and Uruguay. A very scarce work that draws together much information on South American caimans and crocodiles not available elsewhere. The faux crocodile skin binding is very unusual. I cannot find any evidence of other copies bound in this same way. The quality and style of the binding appears to be one put on by the publisher. Perhaps a very limited number of copies were bound in this special way. The text is in Spanish with Latin names used throughout. No ownership marks.

Price-clipped dust jacket is near fine, perhaps a bit sunned on the front panel, and with an old sticker at the bottom of hte front flap. George Nakashima
Tokyo, New York, San Francisco: Kodansha. Condition: Like New. This is: The Soul of a Tree ... A Woodworker's Reflections by George Nakashima. This is a First Edition, 1981. It is also beautifully signed that same year. It has a wonderful inscription that could be for anyone. It says: "To a beautiful person George Nakashima September 30 1981". This photograph is especially nice compared to many less personal and name specific autographs. It is also a very early copy of this book as it just came out shortly before this signature was acquired. This book belongs to a local Upstate New York artist, who knew Nakashima personally. She kept many newspaper clippings of him, his work and death, which I have included along for provenance. I have 25 years experience in vintage ephemera, with past 12 years handling many important autographs and signed documents, and guarantee this to be authentic. Please examine the signature and compare it to any other Nakashima signing. The book is in excellent condition! There is some light surface wear/rub to the dust jacket, from long term shelf storage most likely. Red cloth covers are in excellent condition. Corners are not dinged. On back cloth cover it looks as if there is the tiniest imperfections to some thread at top. DJ is unclipped. Please see my many photos for best condition report. Also before bidding if you have any other questions or need any other photos please ask first. Item is sold As-Is.
