Bildmaß ca. 49 x 69 cm ( Höhe x Breite ). Das Bild etwas berieben, etwas fleckig, zu den Außenrändern bedingt durch alte Rahmung stärker berieben. Walter Kohlhoff ( *1906Berlin 1981 ebenda ). W. Kohlhoff war über 20 Jahre lang Vorstandsmitglied des Vereins Berliner Künstler. Maler urbaner Landschaften Berlins und seiner Umgebung.         The Complete EC Library: Shock Suspenstories (3 Volume Boxed Set)

Russ Cochran, 1981. Hard Cover. VF - Very Fine. Various. 3 Volume Slipcased set. Published originally by William M. Gaines. When Shock SuspenStories appeared in 1951 it was designed as a showcase title with examples of EC's (Entertaining Comics) crime, horror & science fiction stories. The second issue featured a shock story designed to provoke a reaction, In Gratitude. In subsequent issues, these "preachies" as publisher William M. Gaines liked to call them, dealt with race relations, rape, bigotry, hazing & all manner of formerly taboo subject. These stories lift Shock SuspenStories into the upper echelons of EC's output. Whilst not a horror Comic, two issues of Entertaining Comic's (EC) Crime SuspenStories were the subject of US Senate Committees investigations. The crowbar murder Issue (#23) & its predecessor, the notorious severed head cover. As the investigating Senator Kefauver said at the time “You have blood coming out of her mouth.” After publisher William M. Gaines coy admission, Kefauver continued "There is blood on the axe. I think most adults are shocked by that." With Russ Cochran's Complete Crime SuspenStories you can enjoy all of these graphic masterpieces, illustrated by Johnny Craig, Jack Kamen, Graham “Ghastly” Ingels, Jack Davis, Reed Crandall & several other top-flight illustrators from the EC stable. There is also an adaptation of a Ray Bradbury short story in issue #9 (The October Game). There are several late stories by one of the masters of visual story telling, Berni Krigstein. Whilst Al Williamson's artistry was demonstrated in two stories, the second assisted by Frank Frazetta (Fired! #17). There are also the stark yet oddly beautiful covers of Johnny Craig, which will linger and play in the imagination. Each book is smyth sewn and deluxe bound to last a lifetime of re-reading. Very Fine condition with only minor shelf-wear to slipcase. Black & White illustrations. 10" x 13" (25cm x 33cm). Slipcase.

Illustrated Cold War Current Event Calendar, 1981-1989

Leavenworth, Kansas: Robert Wilderson, 1981-1989. Calendars lightly worn in hand-bound cardboard wrappers, newsletters overall near fine.. Unique illustrated desk calendars. Folios. Collection of eight unique, illustrated desk calendars, US Government issued, folded and bound into cardboard wrappers. The calendars document 1981 though 1987, and 1989. Additionally, the collection contains eleven pieces of Pagan/Wiccan ephemera, mostly newsletters, apparently from the early 1990s. Wilderson was a midlevel (GS-11/12) civilian planner and operations officer/analyst who worked for the Department of Defense at the US Army's Combined Arms Combat Development Activities (CACDA). During the years 1981 though 1984, nearly every day of the calendar is brightly illustrated with marker and colored pencil drawings and text, recording in a single square either current event news, pagan and other holidays, the weather, or events of personal significance. With a particular interest in conflict in Lebanon and the Middle East, relations with the USSR, the development of NASA's Space Shuttle program, Wilderson's calendar appears to track an eminent global apocalypse, presided over by a dangerously impulsive Ronald Reagan. Notations of pagan holidays and the lunar calendar add further color to this bizarre geopolitical document. An able draftsman and cartoonist, Wilderson's private desk calendars are a wildly unique perspective from an individual who was both an insider in the government and an outsider to mainstream American society. Apparently Wilderson retired after 1989, just before CACDA was downsized following the end of the Cold War. The collection of Wiccian newsletters give a glimpse into a separate life in Oregon's "Southern Williamette Pagan Network" and the "Lane County Pagan Network". The newsletters, designed on what appears to be an early Apple Macintosh, themselves document the flowering of micro-community desktop publishing enabled by the graphic interface computers that presaged the coming of the World Wide Web.

        Martin Bormann: Nazi in Exile

Lyle Stuart 1981 - Signed first edition. 302pp. Original red cloth lettered in gilt with black paper-covered boards. Near Fine with slightly bumped corner in Very Good dust jacket with light edge wear and small closed tear near foot, indent from paperclip on front panel. Presentation copy inscribed to film producer and German-born Jewish emigree Sam Spiegel of Horizon Pictures Inc. on the front free endpaper. Manning explains in the typed, signed letter that is laid in that he is seeing if any film studios might interested in adapting the book. This was not to be: Manning, despite his reputation as a broadcast journalist and speechwriter, soon found the book either studiously ignored or ridiculed by the mainstream media, its publisher attacked by unknown assailants and both his legs broken, and his own son mysteriously murdered. Interest in the possible postwar whereabouts of Martin Bormann has persisted since then, some researchers claiming Manning has been vindicated. Signed copies of his work are rare.         A Confederacy Of Dunces

Allen Lane, London 1981 - First UK Impression, one of only 1500 copies, with a foreword by Walker Percy. 8vo: xii,338pp. Publisher's parchment-colored paper-covered boards, spine lettered in gilt; illustrated dust jacket, repriced with publisher's sticker £7.95. A superlative copy (indeed As New) and yet another example of the value to be found in UK editions of American authors's works. This cult classic (and now mainstream success) first appeared eleven years after Toole's suicide, published through the efforts of Walker Percy and Toole's mother, earning Toole a posthumous Pulitzer Prize. The book's title is drawn from Jonathan Swift's essay Thoughts on Various Subjects, Moral and Diverting: "When a true genius appears in the world, you may know him by this sign, that the dunces are all in confederacy against him." The book chronicles the "misadventures of Ignatius Jacques Reilly, an obese, lazy, obnoxious, opinionated, erudite, quixotic thirty-year-old medievalist who views himself as "an anachronism": he criticizes, and alienates himself from, the contemporary reality of 1960s New Orleans, preferring, in the "Miltonic isolation" of his bedroom, an idealized medieval world view inspired by Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy and determined by Fortuna, the goddess of fortune." the misadventures of Ignatius J. Reilly, a lazy, obese, misanthropic, self-styled scholar who lives at home with his mother in the Uptown neighborhood of early 1960s New Orleans." (Literary Encyclopedia) Toole wrote the novel in 1963, during his final few months in Puerto Rico. The novel has sold some 1.5 million copies and has been translated into more than 20 languages. Toole is now widely regarded as a gifted prose stylist who has immortalized the eccentricity of New Orleans. N. B.
