New York: Mysterious Press. F+/F+. 1981. Limited Edition. Hardcover; 1st Printing. 0670451932 . #578 of 750 copies of this signed limited edition, SIGNED by Stephen King on the limitation page. The clear acetate dustjacket is also Fine with no tears, chips or wear, as is the slipcase. The clear dustjacket is on the book in the image with the book in the slipcase.         In the Land of Dreamy Dreams [Inscribed Association Copy]

University of Arkansas Press|~| Fayetteville: University of Arkansas Press. 1981. A review copy of her second book, first book of fiction, a collection of stories. This is the hardcover issue; there were 1000 copies issued in wrappers, but the hardcover is considerably scarcer than that. This copy belonged to Ray Roberts, Gilchrist's editor at Little, Brown, and her inscription and her "thanks" are presumably addressed to him. Beginning with the book after this and continuing for the next two decades, Little, Brown published approximately a dozen books by Gilchrist, including her National Book Award-winning Victory Over Japan. Fine in a fine dust jacket with review slip laid in. An excellent association copy of her uncommon first book. . First Edition. Hardcover.

Winston S. Churchill Official Biography, Companion Volume V, Parts 1, 2, 3. The Exchequer Years, The Wilderness Years, The Coming of War

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co., 1981. First U.S. edition, only printing. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. All three Volume V Companions, each fine in a fine dust jacket. All three are U.S. first editions. These three volumes are the key to forming complete complete sets of Churchill’s Official Biography. Many sets are without these volumes since there was only a single printing in England (which included sheets for the American Edition) and the volume V Companions were published in smaller quantities than the other Official Biography Volumes. Offered here is a rare prize for collectors – all three Volume V Companions together. Part 1, The Exchequer Years 1922-1929 has a trifling bump to the lower corner of the top board and a tiny previous owner’s sticker to the ffep, but it otherwise immaculate in an unclipped, nearly perfect dust jacket. Part 2, the Wilderness years 1929-1935, likewise has a tiny previous owner’s sticker to the ffep, but features an immaculate binding. The dust jacket is price-clipped, but otherwise flawless. Part 3, The Coming of War 1936-1939, is truly fine in a truly fine unclipped dust jacket. The only flaw is some neat pencil notation along the right edge of the ffep and a small triangle at the top right corner of the ffep has been clipped.

        R. Crumb: The Sketchbooks 1981-2012 (6 Volumes, Signed, Deluxe Set)

Koln: Taschen, 2012. Limited Edition. Hardcover. NEW. Crumb, R.. SIGNED. 1344pp. Boxed set, 6 hardcover volumes in slipcase with print in portfolio [8.1" x 10.6"]. Limited to 1,000 copies, this is copy #144. Full color illustrations throughout. Still housed in publisher's shipping box. & & The set includes a hand-written introduction by Robert Crumb. Each set of this 1,000-copy limited edition also includes a signed color art print of the Crumb original "The Little Guy That Lives Inside My Brain."& & 1,344 pages of Crumb's hand-picked selections from his notebooks. This six-book boxed set is the first collection of Robert Crumb sketches to be printed from the original art since the hard-bound, slipcased, seven volume series issued by the German publisher Zweitausendeins between 1981 and 1997. Unlike the Zweitausendeins edition, which included every doodle ever made by the preeminent underground artist, our best-of edition has been personally edited by the notoriously picky artist to include only what he considers his finest work, including hundreds of late period drawings not published in previous sketchbook collections. Robert Crumb requested that the books representing the second half of his career be published first due to fan demand for new Crumb material (Volumes 7-12 cover the period 1982-2011, and the forthcoming Volumes 1-6 will cover the period 1964-1981).& & In the last 20 years Crumb's artistic output has slowed considerably, making new works more rare and highly prized. This collection of over 600 unseen drawings created between 1982 and 2011 makes this a must-have collectible for every Crumb fan.

Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1981.First edition of Van Allsburg’s second book. Oblong quarto (9 11/16 x 10 15/16 inches; 246 x 277 mm.). [31], [1, blank] pp. Illustrated throughout in black in white.Original green linen-grain cloth over boards with copper-gold lettering on front cover and spine. Tan endpapers. A fine copy. In the original green printed dust jacket with black and white illustrations on both panels and with front panel lettered in red and spine lettered in white. The jacket has the price $9.95 on the front flap and the ISBN number on the rear panel. This copy has the gold Caldecott Medal affixed to the front panel (Chris Van Allsburg was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1982 for Jumanji).“The game under the tree looked like a hundred others Peter and Judy had at home. But they were bored and restless and, looking for something interesting to do, thought they’d give Jumanji a try. Little did they know when they unfolded its ordinary-looking playing board that they were about to be plunged into the most exciting and bizarre adventure of their lives. In his second book for children, Chris Van Allsburg again explores the ever-shifting line between fantasy and reality with this story about a game that comes startlingly to life. His marvelous drawings beautifully convey a mix of the everyday and the extraordinary, as a quiet house is taken over by an exotic jungle” (blurb on front flap of jacket).“Working in Jumanji with Conté dust used with Conté pencil, Chris Van Allsburg has created a striking sense of color in his black-and-white illustrations. By setting objects close to the picture plane, he brings the viewer directly into scenes, and by careful placement of other objects, he creates a strong sense of depth and space. These concerns, as well attention to light and shade, characterization, and a variety of shapes and sizes used for composition, make Jumanji a book that once again demonstrates Chris Van Allsburg’s artistry. With its surreal story and striking illustrations, Jumanji will intrique and enchant readers of all ages” (blurb on rear flap of jacket).“Mr. Van Allsburg's illustrations have a beautiful simplicity of design, balance, texture, and a subtle intelligence beyond the call of illustration” (The New York Times Book Review). The basis for the 1995 Joe Johnston film starring Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt, and Kirsten Dunst.

        The Jessup Dimension

Clarksburg, WV: Saucerian Press, 1981 Clarksburg, WV: Saucerian Press, 1981. First Edition. Design wraps, octavo, 163 pp. This copy was owned by Genzlinger's daughter, with small TLS by her laid in; hence, something of a nice association copy. Very modest trace edge wear here and there, light toning to covers; a very sharp Near Fine, tight and bright for a wraps publication from Gray Barker's Saucerian Press, most of which actually did get thoroughly read, hence experienced wear. The Jessup Dimension is about as rare a title as I've encountered in the UFO category, an account of a latter-day investigation of the mysterious 1959 death - offically, by suicide - of UFO researcher and author Morris K. Jessup ('The Case For the UFO', 'The Expanding Case For the UFO'). Jessup had been, near the time of his death, investigating what is now called 'The Philadelphia Experiment' - which meant investigating the U.S. Navy and the enigmatic 'Carlos Allende' (Carl Allen) as well. Around 1978 - during the "first revival' of interest in Jessup's mysterious demise - Gray Barker received a phone call from someone in the Miami area (who turned out to be Anna Genzlinger) claiming to "KNOW" that Jessup's death was not suicide. When Barker asked her for evidence, she replied she didn't have any - but was going to get some. This 1981 book is the product of her efforts. Though, per Barker, when Genzlinger started, "the scent had long grown cold" on the mystery of Jessup's death, Genzlinger nonetheless "DID find things out. MANY things. Many uncomfortable things...not only did she uncover intriguing facts, but an entirely new dimension to the entire affair". From that 'dimension' comes the title of this book, and it is 'an alarming idea which could create MORE Jessup mysteries'. This is only the third copy of The Jessup Dimension I've ever personally seen become available, and two were family-owned copies. I have no idea why that might be. L64

        Sebastiano Del Piombo

Oxford: Oxford at the Clarendon Press, 1981. Ex university (Royal College of Art) library copy with paper label inside front board and bar-code label on f/ep, ink stamp on f/ep; minor creasing to top edge of unclipped dustwrapper, book smells a bit musty as if it has been kept in a garage or shed. Otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book, part of the publisher's ''Oxford Studies in the History of Art and Architecture'' series, looking at the works of the Italian renaissance painter Sebastiano del Piombo. This was the first detailed assessment of del Piombo's work to have appeared in English. 175pp plus 144pp showing 204 b&w illustrations of the artist's work.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Ex-Library.

Det tavse land. Fotografier af Krass Clement ('The Silent Country. Photographs by Krass Clement').

Copenhagen: Borgen, 1981. Oblonged 4to. Original photoillustrated wrappers. 101 pp. Illustrated throughout in black and white. Excellent copy.. Very rare fine copy of Krass Clement's early masterpiece. One of the most hard to find of Krass Clement photobooks 'The Silent Country' is a very convincing work and among the most important works by this photographer - underrated compared to "Drum" included in Parr & Badger. 'The Silent Country' was Clement's second book; a multifaceted portrait of people in Denmark inspired by Robert Frank's portrait of America. Photos are shot in the 1960's and 1970's , perhaps the most sharply and elegant composed book by Clement. A landmark book in danish photo history. First and only edition. Due to the softcover format - the book was only issued like this - it is almost impossible to find completely unharmed, but this one is really well preserved.         Winston S. Churchill, The Official Biography, Companion Volume V, Part 2, The Wilderness Years 1929 - 1935

William Heinemann Ltd. The Companion volumes for Volume V of the Official Biography are the most keenly sought and most difficult to acquire of all Official Biography volumes. There was only a single printing in England and the Volume V Companions were published in smaller quantities than other Companion volumes - meaning that many Official Biography sets will forever do without. This is the second of three Volume V Companions and is a near-fine example in a near-fine dust jacket. The red cloth boards and spine are clean and unfaded with bright gilt, square corners, and virtually no wear. The contents are crisp, clean, bright, and tight with no spotting and no inscriptions. The red-stained top edge is the sole flaw, being faded to pink as is common. There were two prices on the dust jacket flap - an original introductory price and then a higher price specified after 1 September 1981. Both prices are intact on this unclipped dust jacket. The dust jacket is crisp, clean, and bright. No fading to the spine lettering. No losses. No wear. There is just a hint of light soiling that is hardly visible - hence our conservative "near-fine" designation instead of "fine". The dust jacket is protected in a removable archival mylar cover. Please note that this large, heavy book may require additional postage.
