Typed Letter Signed to Amiri Baraka [with] Typed Manuscript Signed of McClure's "Poem by Amiri Baraka from a dream"

One page Typed Letter Signed ("Miguel") to Amiri Baraka. Old folds from mailing else about fine with original envelope postmarked in 1981. An interesting letter, McClure celebrates the fact that Baraka is out of jail, and then later, in part: "The other night - the night of the Summer Solstice - Joanna and I were sleeping out under the stars on the porch and I dreamed that I was typing a poem of yours. It was a really gorgeous (as most of yours are) piece and it had a column of sounds running down the side. When I got up in the morning the shape of the poem was very clear in my mind and I began typing what I saw. Here 'tis." McClure goes on to relate a similar dream about a broadside poem by Philip Whalen. [With] One page Typed Manuscript Signed ("Michael McClure") of the poem in question. Old mailing folds, else fine. The 46-line poem was later published in McClure's Fragments of Perseus in 1983 by New Directions. .

[Life of the Virgin Mary]. [Bologna?, ca. 1685/90 (engraved Bologna, ca. 1506)]. 1mo (40 x 29 cm) A series of 17 very large numbered engraved prints. Each with Dürer's AD monogram and the last also with Raimondi's MAF monogram. Late 18th-century boards, in a paste-paper slipcase with an engraved label showing the coat of arms of the Count of Somaglia, (Don Gaetano?) Cavazzi in Milan.

Bartsch 621-637 (also in The Illustrated Bartsch, vol. XXVII); BDPI 1630611; Delaborde 235-251; Shoemaker et al., The engravings of Marcantonio Raimondi (1981), pp. 22 et al. A complete series of 17 engraved prints of the life of the Virgin Mary, printed in Italy ca. 1685/90 from the original copper plates engraved ca. 1506 by Marcantonio Raimondi (ca. 1480-ca. 1527/34) after the 17 woodcuts that had so far been completed of what was to be a series of 20 by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Together with Lucas van Leyden, Dürer and Raimondi were the great pioneers of 16th-century graphic art, and Raimondi in particular established the copperplate print as the medium of choice for reproducing works of art from other media. The series is important both as a high point in the history of art and engraving and for its religious content, but also for the views it gives of life ca. 1500.The coat of arms on the slipcase matches Rietstap's arms for the Milan family Cavazzi, Counts of Somaglia. In very good condition and with large margins. Binding somewhat worn and with a few cracks and minor stains.

        Anglo-American Establishment

New York: Books in Focus. Hardcover. 0916728501 354 pages. Index. Footnotes. "On very rare occasions a book appears which forever changes the way in which we perceive the world around us. Within a short while it becomes hard to understand how we could have functioned without the knowledge gained from it. This is such a book. Quigley presents certain 'keys' crucial to the understanding of 20th century political, economic and military events - events of the past, present, and future... The fact that Carroll Quigley, a highly respected professor at Georgetown University and an instructor at Princeton and Harvard, could not find a publisher for this work, is in itself significant." - Stephen A. Zarlenga, Publisher. Light wear to book which is clean and unmarked but for prior owner's neat signature atop front free endpaper. Average wear to dust jacket which is now preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart cover. A quality copy of this significant work. . Good. 1981. First Edition.

The Art of Living and Other Stories (Signed First Edition)

Alfred A. Knopf, New York 1981 - First Printing. Signed boldly by the author directly to a second half-title page, following the title page. From the esteemed modern first collection of Joy Kritzer, the book is unread and is in absolutely fine condition. The extremely fragile paper dust jacket - which is now protected by a removable Brodart archival cover - is easily near fine+, with just the seemingly ubiquitous very light edgewear/light rubbing to the corners and spine ends. A beautiful collectible copy of one of the only signed copies available online, as Mr. Gardner perished in a tragic motorcycle accident shortly after publication. An incredibly scarce signed copy thus. Please be sure to check out the other signed John Gardner titles in my inventory. I ship all of my books bubble-wrapped in sturdy, very well-padded boxes, so they are guaranteed to arrive in the exact same condition as when they left.         The Ultimate Good Luck [Review Copy]

Boston: Houghton Mifflin. 1981. A review copy of his second novel, a hard-boiled thriller involving American expatriates in Mexico. Signed by the author. Partly because of the weak construction at the rear hinge, which tends to crack, this title has become harder to locate, particularly in fine condition, than his first book. This copy has just a hint of the start of a crack at the lower rear joint and is otherwise fine in a very near fine dust jacket with one tiny, closed edge tear at the heel. With publisher's review slip laid in. First Edition. Hardcover.

        Photo-theater: Tokyo Elegy

Tokyo: Tojusha (1981) - First Edition. Small square quarto. Many images in sequence, mostly black and white and shot between 1967-1972, with several iconic photographs interspersed among those previously unpublished. The juxtaposition of a highly charged erotic series followed by somber shots of Araki's father's funereal is indicative not only of Araki's artistic prowess, but also of the inherent risk taking that infuses the best of the Japanese photobooks. True to form, the book has a brilliant layout, design, and a subtly provocative dust jacket. Only one copy in OCLC. (Book of Nudes 188-189, obi not present.). Tiny indentation at the spine from having been involved in a bit of book bondage at the Tokyo book market, else fine in black wrappers with French flaps, fine white pictorial dust jacket (itself with a small indentation), and scarce black obi. Calvin Klein is an American fashion designer known for his womenswear, menswear, cosmetics, bed and bath linens, and other designer collections. Letter reads as follows: Dear Mr. Gamble: Somehow your letter has only just reached my desk. I am glad that you enjoyed the press kit and advertising portfolios I sent earlier, and am enclosing a copy of my most recent portfolio for you to add to your collection. Unfortunately after giving the matter some thought, I am unable to come up with any suggestions as to how to make your collection into a profit-making venture. Perhaps a local museum would like to house some of the items. I appreciate your interest, and wish you continued success with your collecting.
