        Keith Brockie's Wildlife Sketchbook

JM Dent & Sons Ltd, London - UK 1981 - Foreword by H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh, on Buckingham Palace Headed Paper: The Duke states: I cannot imagine a better combination for a satisfying life than a talent to draw and an interest in nature. Keith Brokie's book gives me a quite un-Christian feeling of envy. I would love to have his talent and the time to indulge it. - The drawings and notes also betray a keen eye and a sympathetic understanding for the problems of wildlife. Altogether it is a most attractive reminder of the richness and beauty of nature in Scotland. [Signed] Philip. 1981. - [facsimile signature]. The Keith Brockie signature is on a small label from 'The Good Book Guide'. It is designed to be pasted into the book but I am leaving that choice as to where it should go to the new owner. Signed books by Keith Brockie are extremely rare. Condition & Description of the book: The original dustjacket is intact and retains price of £9.50 net UK price, to inner front prelim. Browning to extremities with minimal creasing along the bottom front edge. Overall, it is in a very nice clean condition. Boards are hardcover with olive green cloth and gold gilt lettering to the spine. These are clean and in a very good condition. Rust coloured endpages front and rear are nice and clean. The illustrations throughout the book are glorious. Keith Brockie, certainly has a keen eye as the Duke states in his foreword. I have loved looking through this book. What a beautiful gift this book would make. There is foxing to the page edges, otherwise all the pages are clean throughout. END - Our orders are shipped within 1 or 2 business days. - Thanks for your interest and I hope you like the book enough to buy it. - Regards from Arabella.         "Pop" and "Underground" in Feast, Spring 1981 [Presidential Poetry]

(Los Angeles): (Occidental College). 1981. Two poems by now President Obama, published when he was 19 years old, included in one of the early issues of this semi-annual college literary journal. The poems have made the internet rounds since 2008 and although most commentators first opined that Obama wrote "Pop" about his maternal grandfather, Stan Dunham, later interpretations pointed to the poet Frank Marshall Davis. On the fringes, the content and cadence of the poem have also been used to raise questions of the poem's actual authorship as well as Obama's citizenship and his father's identity. Although the text of both poems are readily available, the journal itself is rare. According to David Maraniss' book Barack Obama: The Story (a copy of which will be included), "the name Barack Obama premiered in public" here in Feast (Barack being formerly known as "Barry"); Obama also submitted a piece of short fiction, which was rejected; and all of this played out in an environment where Obama was in competition with the managing editor for the affections of the editor, affections Obama reportedly won a year later. Fine in stapled wrappers. We can find no evidence of another copy appearing on the market. Occidental is a small private college (enrollment ~2100), and a newly created literary journal would have had a limited printing, probably on the order of a couple of hundred copies at most. That few copies would have survived nearly 35 years later should not be surprising. A Presidential rarity. Softcover.

Typed Letter Signed to Amiri Baraka [with] Typed Manuscript Signed of McClure's "Poem by Amiri Baraka from a dream"

One page Typed Letter Signed ("Miguel") to Amiri Baraka. Old folds from mailing else about fine with original envelope postmarked in 1981. An interesting letter, McClure celebrates the fact that Baraka is out of jail, and then later, in part: "The other night - the night of the Summer Solstice - Joanna and I were sleeping out under the stars on the porch and I dreamed that I was typing a poem of yours. It was a really gorgeous (as most of yours are) piece and it had a column of sounds running down the side. When I got up in the morning the shape of the poem was very clear in my mind and I began typing what I saw. Here 'tis." McClure goes on to relate a similar dream about a broadside poem by Philip Whalen. [With] One page Typed Manuscript Signed ("Michael McClure") of the poem in question. Old mailing folds, else fine. The 46-line poem was later published in McClure's Fragments of Perseus in 1983 by New Directions. .

[Life of the Virgin Mary]. [Bologna?, ca. 1685/90 (engraved Bologna, ca. 1506)]. 1mo (40 x 29 cm) A series of 17 very large numbered engraved prints. Each with Dürer's AD monogram and the last also with Raimondi's MAF monogram. Late 18th-century boards, in a paste-paper slipcase with an engraved label showing the coat of arms of the Count of Somaglia, (Don Gaetano?) Cavazzi in Milan.

Bartsch 621-637 (also in The Illustrated Bartsch, vol. XXVII); BDPI 1630611; Delaborde 235-251; Shoemaker et al., The engravings of Marcantonio Raimondi (1981), pp. 22 et al. A complete series of 17 engraved prints of the life of the Virgin Mary, printed in Italy ca. 1685/90 from the original copper plates engraved ca. 1506 by Marcantonio Raimondi (ca. 1480-ca. 1527/34) after the 17 woodcuts that had so far been completed of what was to be a series of 20 by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528). Together with Lucas van Leyden, Dürer and Raimondi were the great pioneers of 16th-century graphic art, and Raimondi in particular established the copperplate print as the medium of choice for reproducing works of art from other media. The series is important both as a high point in the history of art and engraving and for its religious content, but also for the views it gives of life ca. 1500.The coat of arms on the slipcase matches Rietstap's arms for the Milan family Cavazzi, Counts of Somaglia. In very good condition and with large margins. Binding somewhat worn and with a few cracks and minor stains.

        Anglo-American Establishment

New York: Books in Focus. Hardcover. 0916728501 354 pages. Index. Footnotes. "On very rare occasions a book appears which forever changes the way in which we perceive the world around us. Within a short while it becomes hard to understand how we could have functioned without the knowledge gained from it. This is such a book. Quigley presents certain 'keys' crucial to the understanding of 20th century political, economic and military events - events of the past, present, and future... The fact that Carroll Quigley, a highly respected professor at Georgetown University and an instructor at Princeton and Harvard, could not find a publisher for this work, is in itself significant." - Stephen A. Zarlenga, Publisher. Light wear to book which is clean and unmarked but for prior owner's neat signature atop front free endpaper. Average wear to dust jacket which is now preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart cover. A quality copy of this significant work. . Good. 1981. First Edition.
