Ratificatio facta p[er] m[agnifi]cu[m] d[ominum] Jo[hannes] Carolu[s] de Affaytalis, in favorem m[agnifi]ci et r[everen]di d[omino]. Guidi d[e] Crema et Rafaelis Krumani p[e]r Castro S[anc]ti Laurentii et terris.Antwerp, 20 January 1546. Manuscript notarial document in Latin, written in a Latin hand on one side of a single piece of sheepskin parchment (31 x 54.5 cm), opening with a large capital and closing with the notary's decorative signature, with the title and "M. Johan Carlo" on the back. Folded and loosely inserted in a paper folder (ca. 1690s?).

For Affaitati: Kellenbenz, “Die Konkurrenten der Fugger als bankiers der Spanischen Krone”, in: Zeitsch. Unternehmensgeschichte XXIV (1979), pp. 81-98. An Antwerp notarial declaration made voluntarily by Giovan Carlo Affaitati, also known as Johannes Carolus de Affaytadi (Cremona 1500 or 1510-Lier 1555 or Ghistelle 1587) soon after he moved to Antwerp, on behalf of Guido de Crema, citizen of Mantua, and Raphael Brumani, citizen of Cremona. It was drawn up before the Antwerp notary Anthony Amala and three named witnesses and appears to concern De Crema and Brumani's inheritance. Affaitati testified to the content of a document drawn up on 31 December 1545 before the Mantua notary Hieronimus de Zizolis. Affitati came from a merchant banking family in Cremona. He set up in Lisbon but moved to Antwerp in 1545, when the Holy Roman Emperor Karl V made him Baron of Ghistelle. He was active in the spice trade and is said to have been the most important financier of the wars of the Holy Roman Emperor Karl V and King Philip II of Spain.Formerly folded to a smaller size, leaving traces of the old folds, but still in very good condition. A primary document recording Karl V's financier in Antwerp, only months after he moved there.

Collection of 112 Tony Shafrazi Gallery Exhibition Announcements, Posters, and Other Ephemera

New York: Tony Shafrazi Gallery 1979-2002 - Collection of 112 Tony Shafrazi exhibition announcements, posters, and other ephemera, some circulated. The collection tracks Shafrazi's New York City gallerist career; notable artists shown included Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Donald Baechler, Kenny Scharf, Ronnie Cutrone, Michael Heizer, Ed Ruscha, Enzo Cucchi, Patrick Demarchelier, David LaChapelle, and many others. The collection begins with his inaugural New York City show with Oliver Mosset in 1979, shown in Shafrazi's apartment at 88 Lexington Avenue, and goes on to contain such important shows as Shafrazi's first exhibition of work by Keith Haring in a 1981 group show, his first exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat in a 1983 group show, as well as Basquiat's final solo show as a living artist, held in 1987. In addition to the gallery invitations, the collection contains five posters, and four 1981 artist biographies for Keith Haring, Donald Baechler, Jonathan Lasker, and Ronnie Cutrone. Throughout, the invitations themselves are graphically compelling; one can see in their evolution into increasingly deluxe printed objects, the growth of the contemporary art market. An important ephemeral collection tracing the galleries trajectory of one of art's most colorful characters. A few items showing light creases, but majority near fine to fine, some items circulated.

Life On Earth : Signed By The Author With An Early Signed Letter From The Author To His School Chemistry Teacher.

The First UK Printing published by Collins / BBC in 1979. The BOOK is in near Fine condition with the slightest of pushing at the spine ends. The book appears unread. The cloth is clean and the gilt titling bright. Free from erasures, inscriptions and markings. The WRAPPER is price-clipped and is in near Fine condition. The tiniest rub to the upper spine. The spine colouring is not faded. The wrapper looks very attractive in the removable Brodart archival cover. A very sharp copy. The book has been simply Signed by the Author to the title page. Accompanied by an early 3 page H/W letter on headed paper which is undated but predates 'Zoo Quest For A Dragon' which was published in 1956. The letter is addressed to Mr Pickles, who was Attenborough's chemistry master at Wyggeston Grammar school for boys in Leicester. In this warm letter to Mr Pickles, Attenborough refers to '.I feel a little embarrassed at apologising for this delay to my schoolmaster who assessed years ago the large amount of insolence and lack of application in my character (I seem to recall such phrases in my reports). I know therefore if I start writing elaborate excuses you will discount them immediately'. He then got onto to discuss that 'I seem to have lost contact almost entirely with Leicester. On the whole, it is perhaps a good thing; For many people in Leicester know too much about my guilty past!' Later in the letter, he refers to 'At the moment my greed for money has landed me with an appalling job of writing a book. It's supposed to be about British Guiana and I am finding it a fearful labour. I hope it may turn out to be a 'Grey Wonder', but I fear it is destined to be another 'Yellow Peril' (The book in question was destined to be The first of the highly successful 'Zoo Quest' titles). He finishes by discussing a potential trip to the East and 'It is so nice to think that Leicester people haven't entirely forgotten us.' The letter has been folded once. A wonderful honest and enlightening letter from David Attenborough at the very start of his career with a scarce signed Attenborough highlight title. Collectible with such attributes. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

        The Stand

New English Library (NEL) 1979 - Stephen King (1979) ‘The Stand’, UK first edition, first printing, published by the New English Library (NEL). Condition: near fine with just a whiff of foxing to the page block edges, all else fine. Near fine dust jacket which is NOT clipped and correctly priced at £6.95. Housed in an aftermarket hand made slipcase to protect the book. This is one of the most difficult King trade editions to come by. The print run was reportedly less than 1,000 copies. In contrast, the US Doubleday first traded edition published in the US had a print run of 70,000 copies. If you subtract all the copies that went to British public libraries receiving the ‘stamp treatment’, and all the copies with a clipped dust jacket, or penned names of previous owners it becomes clear how rare this item is in a decent collectable condition. ‘The Stand’ is the favourite novel of many King fans. It was re-released in 1990 as a complete an unabridged version. ‘The Stand’ was adapted as a TV-series in 1994. For years plans have been in the cooker for a better feature film or mini-series adaptation. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Our Day And Generation

U.S.A.: Simon & Schuster, 1979 A fine first edition in a fine dust jacket, inscribed by Kennedy in 1982 and also signed by Tip O'Neill, on the front free endpaper. Complete row of numbers to 1 on the copyright page and original price of $12.95 on the front flap. A collection of extracts from Kennedy's speeches, published in 1979, a year after he reached his Senate peak as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This book was clearly a calculated part of his effort in 1979 and 1980 to run for President of the United States. After years of delay in the shadow of the Chappaquiddick tragedy in 1969, Kennedy finally decided to seek the Democratic nomination in the 1980 presidential election by launching an unusual, insurgent campaign against the incumbent Carter, a member of his own party. A midsummer 1978 poll had shown Democrats preferring Kennedy over Carter by a 5-to-3 margin. During spring and summer 1979, as Kennedy deliberated whether to run (and published this book of his speeches), Carter was not intimidated despite his 28 percent approval rating, saying publicly: "If Kennedy runs, I'll whip his ass." And he did. Kennedy formally announced his campaign on November 7, 1979, at Boston's Faneuil Hall. He had already received substantial negative press from a rambling response to the question "Why do you want to be President?" during an interview with Roger Mudd of CBS News broadcast a few days earlier. More importantly, Kennedy's disgraceful behavior at Chappaquiddick 10 years earlier came back to haunt him.. Inscribed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine.

Los Angeles: Filmways Pictures, 1979. Draft script for the 1980 film. Title page present, with a credit for screenwriter De Palma and a date of 1979. Based on other drafts we have seen, this one would precede October 1979 (and the commencement of production).A defining De Palma film, suspenseful in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock and intense sexuality. The film begins with a very famous update on the "Hitchcock shower scene," with Angie Dickinson very plausibly filling Janet Leigh's role. The sixth of nine highly distinctive films De Palma made between 1973 and 1984. Black wrappers, with a white title label. 99 leaves, mechanically reproduced.
