Les Editions JCL Enr. 1979 - This book is written entirely in French. The book and slipcase are in mint condition. Wonderful photos and a fold-out map of the island. Comes with a letter from Mr. McCormick's daughter to the original purchaser. This is book # 299 out of 300. This biography information is from the ASF's (Atlantic Salmon Federation) Hall of Fame: Charles McCormick was the grandson of Irish immigrants who came to Canada in the latter part of the 19th Century. His early years were spent in the Ottawa valley. In 1926 Charlie went to Anticosti to work for a lumberman and he stayed until his retirement 50 years later. Anticosti Island is a veritable sportsman's paradise, with a number of excellent salmon rivers and a white-tailed deer population exceeding any other location in North America. Charlie was to spend his life managing and protecting those wildlife resources. As a game warden, he patrolled the remote island regularly, and poachers he apprehended ended up before an irate Justice of the Peace - none other than Charlie himself - and they were banished from Anticosti with Charlie escorting them to the departure dock. Most of them wisely never returned. He was often referred to as "King of Anticosti", but there was no pretension about this modest, cheerful man who devoted his life to wildlife conservation.         Broca’s Brain: Reflections on the Romance of Science.

New York: Random House, 1979. First edition of this work, in which Sagan explores and explains a mind-boggling future of intelligent robots and extraterrestrial life and its consequences. Octavo, original cloth. Boldly signed by Carl Sagan on the half-title page. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket illustration by Jon Lomberg. Jacket design by Robert Aulicino. Uncommon signed. Broca's Brain is a collection of essays written by astrophysicist Carl Sagan. Its chapters were originally articles published between 1974 and 1979 in various magazines, including The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic, Physics Today, Playboy and Scientific American. The title essay is named in honor of the French physician, anatomist and anthropologist, Paul Broca (1824-1880). He is best known for his discovery that different functions are assigned to different parts of the brain. He believed that by studying the brains of cadavers and correlating the known experiences of the former owners of the organs, human behavior could eventually be discovered and understood. To that end, he saved hundreds of human brains in jars of formalin; among the collection is his own neural organ. When Sagan finds it in Musee de l'Homme, he poses questions that challenge some core ideas of human existence such as "How much of that man known as Paul Broca can still be found in this jar?" - a question that evokes both religious and scientific argument.

        Our Day And Generation

U.S.A.: Simon & Schuster 1979 - A fine first edition in a fine dust jacket, inscribed by Kennedy in 1982 and also signed by Tip O'Neill, on the front free endpaper. Complete row of numbers to 1 on the copyright page and original price of $12.95 on the front flap. A collection of extracts from Kennedy's speeches, published in 1979, a year after he reached his Senate peak as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This book was clearly a calculated part of his effort in 1979 and 1980 to run for President of the United States. After years of delay in the shadow of the Chappaquiddick tragedy in 1969, Kennedy finally decided to seek the Democratic nomination in the 1980 presidential election by launching an unusual, insurgent campaign against the incumbent Carter, a member of his own party. A midsummer 1978 poll had shown Democrats preferring Kennedy over Carter by a 5-to-3 margin. During spring and summer 1979, as Kennedy deliberated whether to run (and published this book of his speeches), Carter was not intimidated despite his 28 percent approval rating, saying publicly: "If Kennedy runs, I'll whip his ass." And he did. Kennedy formally announced his campaign on November 7, 1979, at Boston's Faneuil Hall. He had already received substantial negative press from a rambling response to the question "Why do you want to be President?" during an interview with Roger Mudd of CBS News broadcast a few days earlier. More importantly, Kennedy's disgraceful behavior at Chappaquiddick 10 years earlier came back to haunt him. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Hoffman served as the Consultant in Poetry of the Library of Congress (the equivalent of the United States Poet Laureate) in 1973-1974 and published several additional books of poetry and literary scholarship. Hoffman appears to have typed a three-page table of contents on the rectos of Swarthmore College Library list from 1968. An interesting artifact connecting two noted American poets.

6 eigenh. (Bild-)Postkarten und 5 ms. Briefe mit eigenh. U.

Ottobrunn, Honolulu, Delos u. a. O., 1970-1979. - 8 SS. (Br. v. 20. VIII. 1979). - Die mit zahlreichen eh. Korrekturen versehenen Briefe auf Briefpapier mit gedr. Briefkopf, die Postkarten mit Ansichten von Hawaii, Delos, dem Bienek-Portrait von David Hockney sowie einer Holzplastik von Tut-Ench-Amun. [Attributes: Soft Cover]
