Two Donna Summer Embroidered Tour Jackets

LP Designs / Cat's Pyjama's, (Toluca Lake, California) 1979 - Two petite, extra small embroidered jackets for tour staff. Faint spotting else about near fine with previous owner's name ("Helene"), a personal assistant who worked for Summer, embroidered on the front side of both jackets. The jackets were provided to staff for two different Donna Summer's tours, designed by Mary Bassel and handmade by LP Designs (on the companies website, they note that Summer was one of their first clients). The first is a black silk-like material embellished with an embroidered portrait of Summer and the concert details from a performance at the Hollywood Bowl on October 13, 1979. The second is a coral-colored satin jacket with black details from the "Summernights Dream Tour: Donna Summer" embroidered on the back, from another 1979 tour (not to be confused with her 1990s "Mid Summer Nights Dream Tour"). Summer had a continuous string of disco hits, including "MacArthur Park," "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls", "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)" and the epic "Love to Love You Baby". In 1979 Summer was the first to win a Grammy for Best Rock Performance, Female, for "Hot Stuff" and later that year sold out her first appearance at the Hollywood Bowl. Donna Summer was posthumously inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2013 and dubbed the "undisputed queen of the Seventies disco boom."

        Dressed to Kill (Original screenplay)

Los Angeles: Filmways Pictures, 1979. Draft script for the 1980 film. Title page present, with a credit for screenwriter De Palma and a date of 1979. Based on other drafts we have seen, this one would precede October 1979 (and the commencement of production). A defining De Palma film, suspenseful in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock and intense sexuality. The film begins with a very famous update on the "Hitchcock shower scene," with Angie Dickinson very plausibly filling Janet Leigh's role. The sixth of nine highly distinctive films De Palma made between 1973 and 1984. Black wrappers, with a white title label. 99 leaves, mechanically reproduced. Pages Near Fine, wrapper Near Fine bound with two gold brads.

Hand Cast and Photos (from The Bandaged Poets Series)

1979 - Plaster cast of William S. Burroughs's right hand created by Caroline Gosselin as part of her Bandaged Poets Series with several accompanying photographs taken by Gerard Malanga of the casting process, Burroughs holding the finished hand, and of Gregory Corso. The unsigned hand is 5" x 2.75" x 7" with a rectangular base and is assembled from two separate molds of the front and back of Burroughs's hand which were then affixed together. Fine with a touch of toning from being handled. Accompanied by four original photographic prints of Burroughs holding the hand, each a different size: 13.75" x 11", 9.75" x 8", 7" x 5.5", and 7" x 5". All are fine except one which has been cut down from a larger photo and has a somewhat ragged top and foredge, near fine. Also included is a long, narrow photo strip measuring 63" x 3.5" with 36 separate images: twenty-four of Burroughs's hand being cast; four of Burroughs holding the hand (but different from the larger images); and eight of Gregory Corso, presumably present when the cast was made, sitting by a window. The strip is Signed on the verso: "Gerard Malanga '79" with "739" stamped nearby, though there is some reason to believe the photographs, (or at least a few) were taken by Ira Cohen who helped conceive of the series and married Gosselin in 1981. Reportedly only two copies of the cast were made; the other is reportedly at the Beinecke Library at Yale.

Richard Marek Publishers, New York 1979 - First edition. Slightly cocked with accompanying waviness along the spine, a tiny abrasion on the front paste down and bumped corner, about near fine in about near fine dustwrapper with a touch of wear at the heel of the spine and wrinkling along the bottom front edge. Signed by the DeMille. The true first edition of this scarce title, a thriller co-written with Block, a pilot and DeMille's childhood friend. DeMille's co-authorship was originally unattributed, and the book club edition (lacking a priced jacket as this has) is sometimes mistakenly offered as a first edition. Very likely the most difficult DeMille book to obtain, particularly in this condition and signed. Although not marked in any way, this copy is from the distinguished modern first edition collection of Bruce Kahn. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Geschichtliche Grundbegriffe. 8 Bände in 9 Bänden. Historisches Lexikon zur politisch-sozialen Sprache in Deutschland.

Stuttgart: Klett-Cotta, 1979. Originalleinen. Gute Exemplare, Band 2 ohne Schutzumschlag. - Führende Wissenschaftler vieler Fakultäten (u. a. In this sense, futurism has developed a long, and in various ways, a profound integration of painting and photography without investing the ontological status of both, but rather applying the perceptual content codified by naturalism. ISBN 3455045677 Versandkostenfreie Lieferung

Ratificatio facta p[er] m[agnifi]cu[m] d[ominum] Jo[hannes] Carolu[s] de Affaytalis, in favorem m[agnifi]ci et r[everen]di d[omino]. Guidi d[e] Crema et Rafaelis Krumani p[e]r Castro S[anc]ti Laurentii et terris.Antwerp, 20 January 1546. Manuscript notarial document in Latin, written in a Latin hand on one side of a single piece of sheepskin parchment (31 x 54.5 cm), opening with a large capital and closing with the notary's decorative signature, with the title and "M. Johan Carlo" on the back. Folded and loosely inserted in a paper folder (ca. 1690s?).

For Affaitati: Kellenbenz, “Die Konkurrenten der Fugger als bankiers der Spanischen Krone”, in: Zeitsch. Unternehmensgeschichte XXIV (1979), pp. 81-98. An Antwerp notarial declaration made voluntarily by Giovan Carlo Affaitati, also known as Johannes Carolus de Affaytadi (Cremona 1500 or 1510-Lier 1555 or Ghistelle 1587) soon after he moved to Antwerp, on behalf of Guido de Crema, citizen of Mantua, and Raphael Brumani, citizen of Cremona. It was drawn up before the Antwerp notary Anthony Amala and three named witnesses and appears to concern De Crema and Brumani's inheritance. Affaitati testified to the content of a document drawn up on 31 December 1545 before the Mantua notary Hieronimus de Zizolis. Affitati came from a merchant banking family in Cremona. He set up in Lisbon but moved to Antwerp in 1545, when the Holy Roman Emperor Karl V made him Baron of Ghistelle. He was active in the spice trade and is said to have been the most important financier of the wars of the Holy Roman Emperor Karl V and King Philip II of Spain.Formerly folded to a smaller size, leaving traces of the old folds, but still in very good condition. A primary document recording Karl V's financier in Antwerp, only months after he moved there.

The letter is addressed to Mr Pickles, who was Attenborough's chemistry master at Wyggeston Grammar school for boys in Leicester. In this warm letter to Mr Pickles, Attenborough refers to '.I feel a little embarrassed at apologising for this delay to my schoolmaster who assessed years ago the large amount of insolence and lack of application in my character (I seem to recall such phrases in my reports). I know therefore if I start writing elaborate excuses you will discount them immediately'. He then got onto to discuss that 'I seem to have lost contact almost entirely with Leicester. On the whole, it is perhaps a good thing; For many people in Leicester know too much about my guilty past!' Later in the letter, he refers to 'At the moment my greed for money has landed me with an appalling job of writing a book. It's supposed to be about British Guiana and I am finding it a fearful labour. I hope it may turn out to be a 'Grey Wonder', but I fear it is destined to be another 'Yellow Peril' (The book in question was destined to be The first of the highly successful 'Zoo Quest' titles). He finishes by discussing a potential trip to the East and 'It is so nice to think that Leicester people haven't entirely forgotten us.' The letter has been folded once. A wonderful honest and enlightening letter from David Attenborough at the very start of his career with a scarce signed Attenborough highlight title. Collectible with such attributes. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

        Paddington Takes The Test

London: Collins, 1979. First edition of the eleventh book in the Paddington series. Octavo, original cloth. Signed by Michael Bond on the half-title page. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Again we find Paddington in excellent form--and, as usual, up to his ears in trouble. By accident he takes a driving test and is later presented with a certificate to drive something very special. Somehow his neighbor, Mr. Curry, is padlocked into Mr. Brown's new steaming-hot sauna bath, while Paddington has difficulty remembering his combinations. Paddington Takes the Test is packed full of the bear's well-meaning intentions, which go hilariously wrong. "Children will laugh right along as Paddington propels himself from one light-hearted disaster to another" (Booklist, ALA).

        The Stand

New English Library (NEL) 1979 - Stephen King (1979) ‘The Stand’, UK first edition, first printing, published by the New English Library (NEL). Condition: near fine with just a whiff of foxing to the page block edges, all else fine. Near fine dust jacket which is NOT clipped and correctly priced at £6.95. Housed in an aftermarket hand made slipcase to protect the book. This is one of the most difficult King trade editions to come by. The print run was reportedly less than 1,000 copies. In contrast, the US Doubleday first traded edition published in the US had a print run of 70,000 copies. If you subtract all the copies that went to British public libraries receiving the ‘stamp treatment’, and all the copies with a clipped dust jacket, or penned names of previous owners it becomes clear how rare this item is in a decent collectable condition. ‘The Stand’ is the favourite novel of many King fans. It was re-released in 1990 as a complete an unabridged version. ‘The Stand’ was adapted as a TV-series in 1994. For years plans have been in the cooker for a better feature film or mini-series adaptation. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Our Day And Generation

U.S.A.: Simon & Schuster, 1979 A fine first edition in a fine dust jacket, inscribed by Kennedy in 1982 and also signed by Tip O'Neill, on the front free endpaper. Complete row of numbers to 1 on the copyright page and original price of $12.95 on the front flap. A collection of extracts from Kennedy's speeches, published in 1979, a year after he reached his Senate peak as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. This book was clearly a calculated part of his effort in 1979 and 1980 to run for President of the United States. After years of delay in the shadow of the Chappaquiddick tragedy in 1969, Kennedy finally decided to seek the Democratic nomination in the 1980 presidential election by launching an unusual, insurgent campaign against the incumbent Carter, a member of his own party. A midsummer 1978 poll had shown Democrats preferring Kennedy over Carter by a 5-to-3 margin. During spring and summer 1979, as Kennedy deliberated whether to run (and published this book of his speeches), Carter was not intimidated despite his 28 percent approval rating, saying publicly: "If Kennedy runs, I'll whip his ass." And he did. Kennedy formally announced his campaign on November 7, 1979, at Boston's Faneuil Hall. He had already received substantial negative press from a rambling response to the question "Why do you want to be President?" during an interview with Roger Mudd of CBS News broadcast a few days earlier. More importantly, Kennedy's disgraceful behavior at Chappaquiddick 10 years earlier came back to haunt him.. Inscribed by Author(s). 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine.

        Dressed to Kill (Original screenplay)

Los Angeles: Filmways Pictures, 1979. Draft script for the 1980 film. Title page present, with a credit for screenwriter De Palma and a date of 1979. Based on other drafts we have seen, this one would precede October 1979 (and the commencement of production).A defining De Palma film, suspenseful in the vein of Alfred Hitchcock and intense sexuality.
