        Signed Photograph

      - Original color photograph of the two important twentieth-century dancers and choreographers, signed by both across the image. Photographed by Jack Vartoogian and dated 1979. In very fine condition. 10 x 8 inches (25.4 x 20.3 cm).The important French-born Swiss dancer, choreographer and opera director Maurice Béjart choreographed several works for Nureyev in the early 1970's, including his version of "Le Sacre du Printemps" and the moving duo "Songs of a Wayfarer," which Nureyev danced together with Paolo Bortoluzzi. Their working relationship deteriorated, however, in the 1980's, culminating in a massive personality clash at the Paris Opera in 1986.

        Four Early Poster Works

[New York]: The Artist, 1979. Four sheets, each 8 1/2 x 11", collage, marker, and offset printing. Each signed by the artist at verso. Four very early works by Rothenberg, dating from the late 1970's and the 1980's - years in which she was an important part of the downtown arts scene associated with COLAB and the Guerrilla Girls. These works critique the political scene at the dawn of the 1980's as well as the role of the human in an increasingly automated and computerized world. "Computer Designs the Coziest Possible Room" is assigned the date of 1979 on the artists' website, and is entirely offset printed. The other three examples, including Launch/Lunch, a version of which was exhibited in 1982 at Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, all have paper collage elements, and are possibly maquettes; the latter is visually different from the example pictured on the artists' website. Small pinholes at tips from being posted, not affecting images; small area of dampstaining to one poster; collage element loose from one poster, but still present; very good.

Parti de la République islamique [en persan].

S.l. The art of persuasion in the islamic Republic of Iran (1999). [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Situace No 1 (1979) through No 15 (1983) (all published)

A complete run in 15 issues of the Czech catalogs of unofficial, conceptual art from the period of normalization, produced by the Jazz Section (Jazzová Sekce), under the editorial direction of Karel Srp Jr., then the head of Jazzová Sekce, and with overall design by Joska Skalník, covering various forms of media including drawings, performance art, happenings, collage, and photography, and including text, lists of exhibitions, and biographical information. Profusely illustrated throughout with numerous full-page photographic reproductions. 4to. Orig. wrpps. Prague (Jazzová Sekce) 1979-1983. Jazzová Sekce was an organization of jazz musicians that legally organized within the Czechoslovakian Musicians' Union in 1971, and thereby gained the right to publish bulletins for use by its members. However, they went against policy by publishing material not only related to music, but also to unofficial art and theater. Situace evolved from a column of the same name that first appeared in Bulletin Jazz in 1978. The artists covered were outside of the official art scene, rarely showing in galleries, and each issue or catalog is focused on a different artist. Very scarce; as of September 2017, WorldCat locates three complete runs in North America and scattered issues at only two other American institutions. The 15 titles are as follows: 1. Adriena Šimotová. Koláže Objekty Kresby. 2. Karel Miler. Možnosti. 3. Jitka Svobodová. Kresby Objekty. 4. Milan Grygar. Kresby. 5. Emila Medková. Fotografie. 6. Stanislav Kolíbal.         SCHULTZ

Mullingar, Ireland. 4to, pp. 455. . "Schultz", Donleavy's seventh novel, was first published by Delacorte in 1979. It was the first book of a trilogy, the second title being "Are You Listening Rabbi Low" and the third title being complete, but unpublished. Our copy is a two volume typed (double-spaced, one side only), photocopied, manuscript reproduced on standard 8 1/2 x 11" white paper. The title page reads: "J. P. Donleavy / SCHULTZ / Delacorte Press/Seymour Lawrence / Property of:- J. P. Donleavy, Levington Park, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland. / Tel 044-8903". There are a number of hand-written corrections to the typed text (one such can be seen at the "JPDonleavyCompendium" web site); however, these corrections are not in Donleavy's original hand, but are (as is the manuscript) photocopied. The collector from whom we acquired this set relates that all the original corrections were in Donleavy's hand, and that these two volumes were apparently, together, one set of 30 to 40 sets which circulated through the Delacorte publishing house. Certain portions of this manuscript differ from those in the published book so there was, presumably, a further revised draft of the manuscript. Our collector further relates that this manuscript was purchased in 1982, from a Chicago dealer (we have the name). The manuscript is competently bound in hard cover and internally very clean and tight. The boards show evidence of the removal of labels from the front and spine, but are otherwise perfectly serviceable. .

Nearly half of the last volume (vol. 7) is taken up with an exhaustive general index to the whole work. “Chiselling and chipping away at 7 volumes of Hardyan reticence, Richard Purdy and Michael Millgate are meticulously informative editors. So far from banalising or deadening Hardy’s impact, his letters, by their reserve, underline that sense of breaking in upon stifled emotions and private passions which gives his work its singular, lonely intensity” ( J. A few creases to letter as usual, overall in excellent condition. A product advertisement in the form of a typed letter signed by Warhol, part of a mailing produced when his name was at the peak of its power as a marketing brand. It was mailed with a sample of the moisturiser. In 1966 Warhol had offered his services as a product endorser by placing an advertisement in the Village Voice which read, "I'll endorse with my name any of the following; clothing, AC-DC, cigarettes, small tapes, sound equipment, Rock 'N' Roll records, anything, film and film equipment, Food, Helium, WHIPS, Money; love and kisses ANDY WARHOL.         Psaumes de David.

Geneva Gérald Cramer 1979 - First edition. Quarto (28 x 21.5 cm), edition limited to 175 numbered copies, on velin d'Arches signed by Chagall in pencil on colophon leaf, 66, [10] pp., illustrated with 30 full-page etchings with aquatint on ochre-coloured grounds, publisher's gilt-lettered vellum, slipcase, a fine example. One of the last of Chagall's bible-inspired books. Signed by the Artist. Copy no.114 out of 175 issued. The 30 etched sheets illustrating the Psalms are printed on a yellow/ochre background, opposite the relevant psalm fragment in French. King David was a favourite of Chagall's among other Biblical heroes, partly because David was the name of Chagall's brother, who died of tuberculosis in the Crimea. In the illustration for Psalm 39 (p.36), an artist sits in front of an easel and paints David and his harp. Verse 4 begins: "Lord, let me know my end, and what is the measure of my days." Cramer 108.
