Signed Association Copy with a Drawing. New York: Andy Warhol Books / Grosset & Dunlap, 1979. First Edition. 4to. Cloth in Pictorial Dust Jacket. Photography Monograph. Fine/Near Fine. 256pp, profusely illustrated in b&w. Jacket designed by Andy Warhol. "Andy Warhol's Exposures" is the late, great Pop Artist's massive survey of candid photographs of the crème de la crème of New York's monde and demi-monde of the seventies From Mick and Bianca to Halston and Liza, everyone who was anyone after midnight at Studio 54 is captured here in a flash of glory! A most handsome copy of the stated first edition, first printing BOLDLY SIGNED "Andy Warhol" vertically in black marker across its dust jacket. It additionally bears the BOLDLY SIGNED PRESENTATION "To ... love Andy Warhol" with a SIGNED DRAWING OF A FAMOUS AMOS CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE in black marker on the half title page. The artist held a much-publicized book signing for "Exposures" in Los Angeles at his friend Wally "Famous" Amos' emporium (Amos 'n' Andy - get it?) on the Sunset Strip, which is where this was signed - hence the drawing's cookie imagery. KILL DEVIL HILL: Discovering the Secret of the Wright Brothers

Boston: Houghton Mifflin 1979 1st printing, 1979. First edition. SIGNED BY NEIL ARMSTRONG, HARRY COMBS, AND FOUR MEMBERS OF THE WRIGHT FAMILY. This book is boldly signed in ink on the front free endpaper by author Harry Combs, Ivonette Wright Miller and husband Harold S. Miller, Horace Wright and wife Susan B. Wright, and Neil Armstrong. Combs is a member of the National Aviation Hall of Fame. Ivonette Wright Miller and Horace Wright were brother and sister; they were nephews of Orville and Wilbur Wright via Lorin Wright. Harold Miller was the executor of Orville's estate. Ivonette and Harold were the public face of the Wright Family; Horace and Susan's autographs are more unusual. This book was ostensibly signed by all parties at an event held in Dayton Ohio when the book was published. Neil Armstrong wrote the book's foreword and has signed his name in blue ink on the lower third of the ffep. This is a clear autograph made well before his 1994 decision to cease signing autographs. The book is in very good condition with a like dustjacket. There is a small address label of the former owner at the top of the ffep above Combs' signature. The book is very slightly cocked from previous readings and the jacket has mild edgewear in the form of stress marks and flaking (no chips or tears). The authenticity of the autographs is guaranteed.

Blind Date with etchings and embossed prints designed by John Furnival and text by Thomas Meyer

[London]: Circle Press Publications. 1979. One of 300 copies, all on Somerset rag-made paper, each copy signed in pencil on the colophon page by the artist, John Furnival, who has paraphed and numbered each of the 11 etchings in pencil. Page size: 11-1/2 inches x 12-1/4 inches; 50pp; + 11 etchings; title page and colophon. Bound: loose in original wrappers, with title in black on front wrapper, publisher's gray sleeve with author and artist and title in black and publisher's black slipcase with maze design by John Furnival blind embossed on front panel, executed by The Dorset Bookbinding Company, fine. Printed by Ron King, Walter Taylor, and John Coleman at the Circle Press in hand-set, 24 point Bodoni. The 11 etchings were editioned by Jack Shirreff and Michael Ward. Of the 11 etchings, 10 are black and white, surrounded by blind-embossed maze designs and the 11th is an extra watercolored etching. In this copy the 11th etching is titled, "Omphale goes out walking" and is colored in blues and pinks and depicts a characteristically Minoan woman carrying an umbrella to shade her from the sun.& In this retelling of the slaying of the Minotaur by Theseus. The Minotaur's maze is a different one in each etching - and the reader / viewer is hopelessly drawn to the center of each etching. Theseus and Ariadne leave Crete together for Athens: the final etching is a trireme sailing north in the morning sun surrounded by diving dolphins. In this the myth, there is no mention of Naxos!
See an Image.
A Lost Night - Typed Manuscript for Short Story

No Place Listed: Not Published A short story or vignette, 8 pages, typed one side; with some minor corrections in ink (spelling, commas); a woman in Paris, waiting futilely for her lover, relates how in a fury of retaliation she goes to Le Ciel d'Or, a club in Montmartre and spends the night partying and going to bed with a chance companion there - "...Opposite me, in a corner, was a young Jew, well-dressed, not repulsive, and alone. I went over to him...; an interesting, well-composed short piece, revealing much of the authors' thinking on relationships, sexualilty and emotional involvements; typed on plain white paper, of good quality though much darkened and with some soiling, an old staple at top left corner has left rusting residue; and an old fold line from being laid-in to the Anne Chisholm biography "Nancy Cunard" (1979 London Sidgwick & Jackson) which is here also; we have not been able to find this work under this title, or been able to find the piece otherwise listed; both in very good condition.. Artist’s Safari, An

1979. One of Twenty Copies Signed by Ralph Thompson and Specially Bound by Zaehnsdorf[ZAEHNSDORF, binder]. THOMPSON, Ralph. An Artist’s Safari. London: Collins in Association with The Tryon Gallery, 1979.“Of this edition 20 copies have been reserved by arrangement with the Publishers for fine binding by Zaehnsdorf. This is copy number 9 which has been specially bound for David Brass” (calligraphed on an inserted limitation leaf at front). Small folio (11 x 7 11/16 inches; 279 x 195 mm.). [160] pp. Profusely illustrated throughout, including eleven full-page color illustrations, some of which are double-page.One of twenty copies signed in pencil on the title-page by Ralph Thompson and specially bound by Zaehnsdorf in quarter brown morocco, ruled in gilt, over tan cloth boards. Vellum tips. Spine ruled and lettered in gilt with two raised bands and with the Zaehnsdorf monogram in gilt at the foot of the spine. Top edge gilt. A fine copy. Housed in the original tan cloth slipcase. “This book was first published in 1970. I was fortunate to make this safari in East Africa before the Federation broke up and the different countries went their separate ways. It is, of course, still possible to see the parks mentioned in the book. This new edition is published in a format which, it is hoped, will be much more convenient to handle. It should therefore be easier to examine the pen drawings, and it is these which I regard as the kernel of the book. Although some of the colour plates are now shown as single-page ‘details’ only, it is to be hoped that this more manageable format will make the new Artist’s Safari a welcome successor to the first edition” (verso of half-title).

New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1979. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1979. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 240 pages. The author's debut and only novel. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published in a very small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now rare. Presents Harold Bloom's first and only novel, an epic set in another world, where time has been arrested and where the conflicts of the ancient world still prevail. Harold Bloom's greatest love is literature, especially Shakespeare. His obsession, on the other hand, is religion, particularly American Gnosticism. His arresting insight, that what we really have in America is an anti-materialistic Gnostic religion (examined in his great book, "The American Religion"), is given literary, counter-narrative expression in this mythical novel. Bloom, ever precise with words, explicitly calls it a "Gnostic fantasy" (rather than a novel). One of the central beliefs of Gnosticism centers around Lucifer and the problem of evil in Creation. Another great Gnostic novelist/critic sums it up beautifully: "How can there be such monstrousness in the world if a good God created it? The Gnostic answer is that there is not one Creator but two. The true God is concealed in His realm of light. The affairs of the material world are handled by the secondary Creator God, the Demiurge. The Demiurge is powerful and bars humanity's way to its true purpose. In Gnostic imagery, he is the jailer who holds us all captive in the prison of matter. Only escape from the prison of the body leads the soul into the otherworldly realm of light. At most, sparks of this light are scattered in the material world" (Vladimir Nabokov). Ours is an imperfect, hence often evil, world at best (rather than a "fallen" one). "Goodness" and "beauty" are the masks worn by Lucifer's children. A "must-have" title for Harold Bloom and Czeslaw Milosz collectors. This presentation copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, dated (in the month and year of publication), and inscribed in blue pen on the front free endpaper by the author: "For Czeslaw Milosz, This Gnostic novel in homage & friendship. Harold Bloom. 12 Oct 1979". Bloom is subtly alluding to Milosz's nihilism being one and the same as Gnosticism. This title is now highly collectible. This is the only such signed and inscribed copy of the First Edition/First Printing available online, a matchless association copy: Milosz, one of the greatest writers of the 20th century and Winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1980, and Harold Bloom, our greatest living literary critic. Czeslaw Milosz died on August 14, 2004 at the age of 93, the last of the constellation of great Polish nihilist writers such as Bruno Schulz, Stanislaw Ignacy Witkiewicz, and Witold Gombrowicz. A rare association copy thus. The greatest living literary critic and one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. A fine collectible copy.
