        Flat Lands

New York: Caldecott Chubb, 1979. Hint of wear, else fine in olive boards. leather spine label.. First Edition. Oblong quarto. Number 2 of a limited edition of 8 numbered and 4 lettered copies, SIGNED by Langdon Clay. A collection of 11 original color photographs from Clay's series Flat Lands. The photographs were contact printed on Kodak EK74 paper under the artist's supervision, and mounted on Lana paper. Letterpress designed and printed by Katy Homans, Boston. Clay's beautiful pictures, mostly of domestic interiors, evoke the elegance of Eggleston, and directly presage trends in current photography exemplified by the work of artists like John Gossage and Roe Ethridge. An unknown book in the canon of American photographic literature, due to its scarcity. Clay has remained a figure at the fringe of the art world, but this is without doubt a true highspot of color photography. No copies in OCLC.

        DIM ART (Woman with glass).

      c. ., c. . 1979 - Vintage gelatin silver print with black paint addition. Rubber stamped THIS OBJECT IS DIM ART MIROSLAV KLIVAR on the verso. Remnants of a typescript label adhered to verso. Very good condition. 5 x 7". "DIM ART is a form of reaction on hyperrealism. Dimmed, blurred pictures and objects present themselves in a double aspect - positive (dim lights are pleasant and restful), and negative (a picture with dimmed contours impedes communication). Yet, how often does one feel, in the presence of some pictures with sharp contours, to get at them and deliberately blur them. This might be a third aspect of DIM ART. All three possess one thing in common -they leave scope to the free play of the recipient's imagination.Miroslav Klivar".Reference: MIROSLAV KLIVAR. DIM ART. 1979c; XVI Bienal de Sao Paulo.         Countercoup: The Struggle for the Control of Iran *SIGNED AND MORBIDLY INSCRIBED BY AUTHOR*

McGraw-Hill, USA, 1979, Hard Cover, Book Condition: Good, Dust Jacket Condition: Fair, First Edition, SignedSize: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall, 217 pages. Black and white photos. Signed by author upon front free endpaper beneath his chilling hand-written inscription "For Leo with warmest regards from his fellow liquidator." Kermit Roosevelt was given the go-ahead to mastermind the overthrow of democratically elected Iranian President Mossadegh after the latter nationalized the Iranian oil industry in 1951. "Roosevelt explains in minute-by-minute detail how he performed his mission... He tells with whom he worked, how he worked, and how the plan was almost aborted." - from dust jacket. "Kermit Roosevelt admitted on NPR radio that in 1953 the CIA and British intelligence carried out a wave of bombings and shootings in Iran. He then went on to brag about how they subsequently blamed the bombings on Iran's President, Mossadegh." - from an online reference. An important book, particularly given America's current preoccupation with Iran, again. Average wear to unmarked book. Binding sound. Various substantial defects to dust jacket which is now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. A significant piece of American, and Iranian, history.

        The Architecture of John Staub

Vom Eindruck zum Ausdruck 1/4 Jahrhundert Kippenberger

Berlin / Paris: Verlag Pikasso's Erben, (1979). Just about fine in wrappers; stickers in uniformly fine condition, with the self-adhesive paper in tact.. First Edition. Octavo. Limited edition of 300 copies. Artists' book by Martin Kippenberger, his second publication. Consists of blank pages, accompanied by 60 4 X 2 3/4 inch stickers with black-and-white reproductions of photographs, drawings, and paintings. In an act that emphasizes the authorial choice inherent in the arrangement of images, Kippenberger invites the reader to adhere the stickers to the pages and create a unique narrative. While the title page states that all copies were signed and numbered, only a portion of the limited edition feature both a signature and a number, and even fewer have Kippenberger's hand-fixed arrangement of stickers on the internal pages.

        Desert Images (Includes the slipcase)

Harcourt, Brace & Jovanovich 1979 - Signed and dated by Abbey on title page. Book is near perfect with astounding full color, full size plates of Muench's photographs. There is a delicately written gift inscription on the page opposite Abbey's signature from giver to giftee, basically the only "flaw" we find in the interior. On the back cover are two very narrow marks, about half an inch long, no idea what caused them. Slipcase is intact but has mild edgewear and light soiling. A heavy book, weighing nearly ten pounds with the slipcase. Price includes insured shipping in the U.S. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
