Princeton, N.J.: Ontario Review Press. [1979]. First. Post card poem. First separate edition, first issue (with "God bless him" in the first line of the third stanza"). Poem card. Fine. Very scarce, traditionally one of the hardest Updike items to find, especially in the first issue. Reportedly only a total of 100 copies of both issues together were published. De Bellis and Broomfield A77: "Roberts reports 100 copies in the entire edition; number in each printing not established." In our experience, the first issue is much the scarcer. .

Complete Run of East Village Eye, 72 issues

New York: Eye Productions, (1979-1987). Issues ranging from good to near fine condition, older copies yellowing as usual, and folds on several copies chipping; facsimiles all in fine condition.. Newsprint folios. An archive of the complete run of 72 issues of East Village Eye, with four issues in facsimile: Nov. '79, Mar. '80, Apr. '84, and Dec./Jan. '84. East Village Eye was a monthly magazine that voraciously covered the happenings of popular culture and avant-garde art scenes in Lower Manhattan, and offered commentary on the sociopolitical movements of the day. It was one of the first magazines to chronicle graffiti and street art, the downtown alternative club and performance scene, the evolution of punk and post-punk music, and was the first publication in history to print the word "hip hop." Artists, musicians, writers, poets, and luminaries such as the Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Keith Haring, David Wojnarowicz, Karen Finley, Barbara Kruger, Helmut Newman, Robert Mapplethrope, Iggy Pop, Richard Hell, Glenn O'Brien, and many others were either extensively covered or regular contributors. The magazine's life span from 1979 to 1987 helped some of the most vibrant subcultures rise to prominence, and acted as an open platform for a generation to artistically express the tenor of a moment experiencing economic deregulation, the War on Drugs, the Oil Glut, and the AIDS epidemic. Although an emblem local to New York City, East Village Eye's influence undoubtedly resonates with an international audience, and continues to have an immense impact on the direction of countercultural and cutting-edge movements to this day.

the artist, Hungary 1979 - 255 x 288mm offset lithograph on paper. Entitled, signed & dated by Tibor in blue pencil. Photograph taken by Janos Veto. No edition size given. This is signed printed work from the artists Tumo II series of 1979. See for example p161 Image Whipping - Tibor Hajas Photo Works with Janos Veto, Research Institute for Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, 2004 - where a six part original photographic piece (Tumo II) with additions by the artist features this image. "To recall the life and works of Tibor Hajas is to commit trespass : disturb something which is definitely at rest, mutilate what is whole, classify that which is unclassifiable and, by labelling it as art, degrade what has for eternity become more than that. Hajas' achievement was surely unparalleled. Partly because - in contrast to so many other good artists - what he sought after from the start was absolute validity and irrevocability and partly because his works - despite their finite character - can still continue to give off flames which may easily scorch" (Laszlo Beke, Image Whipping - Tibor Hajas Photo Works with Janos Veto, Research Institute for Art History of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, 2004 , inside back cover text.
