Shogun, set in Japan in the year 1600, follows the adventures of the fictional John Blackthorne, whom the novel presents as the first Englishman to reach Japan... In 1980 Shogun was made into a five-part television mini-series that starred Richard Chamberlain and Toshiro Mifune and was seen by 120 million viewers, the largest audience for a mini-series since Roots" (New York Times). Although Shogun is the first volume in Clavell's Asian series, it was published after the novels King Rat (1962) and Tai-Pan (1966). Barker (George)
circa - 1980, 1975. manuscript material written in various colour inks and pencil, heavy drafting to typed sheets, some with light soiling or staining, in total circa 140 sheets with around half of these photocopied (but some of these with holograph material), some exclusively manuscript material and including 2 letters to Barker (one from Anthony Astbury of the Greville Press, the other from a schoolmaster interested in having him come in), some with holograph material (often verse, sometimes other literary work) on the verso, various sizes and formats, two sections clipped and obviously intended to form (slightly sprawling) groups, the rest scattered, good condition overall. The majority of the material here would appear to be unpublished - at least in its present form, and dates from the latter part of the poet's lifetime (though the only dated piece is the schoolmaster letter). The presence of an envelope addressed to the poet at Buntry Farmhouse in Itteringham, postmarked 1987, and an envelope marked 'Barker' but addressed to the poet Cliff Forshaw that has a 19 and 1/2 penny stamp affixed (so from the early 1980s at the latest), offer further evidence for dating. The work is playful, though - certainly in case of the photocopied material at the back, which the title sheet refers to as 'Botherskin & Potherskin' (a collection rejected by Faber) - occasionally slightly embittered, with potshots at various contemporaries and predecessors.

The Mide cult was introduced by a young visionary late in the eighteenth century, and later spread from Lake Superior as far as Lake Winnipeg. Grenier, Robert (Allen Ginsberg)
Kensington, CA: L Publications. 1975. 43 index cards (4x6 inches) in original envelope addressed to Allen Ginsberg at his Stuyvesant Station PO Box. Author's return address on the front of the envelope and small ink correction on the rear. Apparently Grenier and the publisher, bookseller Curtis Faville, argued over whether or not the second word in the title should be 'Toward' or 'Towards'. Reportedly, under 100 copies were ever produced, and OCLC locates only 8. Cards are Fine. Envelope with one sided torn open. This set predates Grenier's massive 'Sentences' by 3 years and many of the short poems here would end up in that collection. A rare and experimental work, connecting the LANGUAGE poets with the Beats. Fine / Envelope. [Attributes: First Edition]

Anonymous.
1975. Italian, c.1974. Lithograph, printed in black and red. Sheet 410 x 305mm. A poster with the head of a soldier wearing a helmet, his face made from a map of Portugal. Above is the anti-fascist slogan 'Portugal will not be the Chile of Europe'; this was the slogan of the 'Carnation Revolution' which overthrew the authoritarian regime of the Estado Novo in April 1974. The hope was that the coup wasn't going to emulate Augusto Pinochet's coup of 1973, which saw a thousand executions in the first six months, the abolition of civil liberties and 500% inflation in the first year. Instead Portugal evolved into a democratic country.

Milano: Mazzotta, , 1975. Brossura (wrappers). Ottimo (Fine). Firme autografe dell'Artista alla quarta pagina e su uno dei ritratti a pennarello nero (Signed by the Artist twice in black marking pen). 8vo. pp. 284. Firme autografe dell'Artista alla quarta pagina e su uno dei ritratti a pennarello nero (Signed by the Artist twice in black marking pen). Ottimo (Fine). Prima edizione (First Edition).

Selwyn H. Dewdney
University of Toronto Press / Glenbow-Alberta Institute, 1975. x, 199 pp. Includes reference list, key to sources, extensive directory of birchbark scrolls and charts, and index. Oblong 7" x 10". Extensively illustrated with black and white photo reproductions, diagrams and scroll fascimiles. "Provides a previously unavailable chart of the emergence, development, and decline of a unique religious nexus known as the Midewewin, an untranslatable Ojibway word inadequately rendered in English as the 'Grand Medicine Society.' The Mide cult was introduced by a young visionary late in the eighteenth century, and later spread from Lake Superior as far as Lake Winnipeg. Examines over a hundred Mide scrolls and relates them to the mainstream of the oral tradition as preserved in Ojibway literature. In tracing the history of this fascinating cult, the author also provides perspectives on Ojibway identity and on the rise and fall of Ojibway civilization." - from dust jacket. Somewhat above-average wear and soiling to illustrated cream-coloured dust jacket, now preserved in archival-grade Brodart. Moderate wear to book. Binding tight. Prior owner's signature atop half-title page, otherwise contents clean and unmarked. A sound copy of this wonderful reference.

[Genesis P-Orridge, COUM Transmissions, Throbbing Gristle]
N.p. Original poster for a performance by COUM Transmissions held on February 18, 1975 at the Stedelijk Academy in Ghent, Belgium. The third in a series of five performances in the "Omissions" series, the previous two taking place that same month in Belgium and the final two in May and June in Germany. Scarce, with OCLC locating just a single copy. Brainchild of Genesis P-Orridge (nee Neil Megson), COUM Transmissions was an influential and controversial performance art group. Using similar techniques as, and occasionally working with, such experimental artists as William Burroughs, Brion Gysin, and the FLUXUS collective, as well as explicit nudity, bodily fluids, and other taboo material, they created shocking and confrontational exhibitions and happenings. The "Omissions" performances were very much in line with this aesthetic, with tour organizer Jean Paul van Bendegem describing them as "an exploration in the unusual of existing art-disciplines and a research in between these disciplines." 13.25 x 23 inches (34 x 58 cm). Occasional light foxing, else Fine. Ford, Simon. "Wreckers of Civilisation" US.4-5.7, 12.7-12.8.
