Philip K. Dick
1975. Condition: Like New. AUTHOR : PHILIP K. DICK TITLE : CONFESSIONS OF A CRAP ARTIST Publisher : Entwhistle Books, New York, 1975 This listing is for two items related to CONFESSIONS OF A CRAP ARTIST, the only mainstream novel by Philip K. Dick that was published during his lifetime. PKD regarded it as "by far the best" of his mainstream novels. (1) The book is #74 of 90 numbered copies of the hardcover first edition signed by Philip K. Dick. In addition to these 90 copies, there were 410 unsigned hardcover copies and 500 trade paperback copies. Fine unread hardcover book (issued without dust jacket). (2) The "silverprints" of this book (so called because of the use of silver halide in the production process) - also known as "blues" (due to the blue ink) - consist of seven "signatures" (two of which are shown in the fifth scan) with hand-written corrections. There are also 11 pages with corrections (two of which are shown in the sixth scan). Finally, there is a typed signed letter from David G. Hartwell to Robert Kreger of Lithocrafters, Inc., the company that produced the books for the publisher. David Hartwell was PKD's friend and editor as well as co-publisher of Entwhistle Books (with Paul Williams). This is a unique item for the serious PKD fan/collector. Edith Wharton
Kentfield, California: The Allen Press, 1975. Condition: Fine / fine. One of 140 copies, folio size, 130 pp., with prospectus. The forty-first limited edition from The Allen Press, featuring four hand-picked, provocative stories by Edith Newbold Jones Wharton (1862-1937). Wharton "produced fourteen novels, nine novelettes, eleven volumes of short stories, volumes of criticism and art appreciation, narratives of her war experiences, and an autobiography. A literary critic described her skills thusly: 'One reason why Edith Wharton rises so precisely above her contemporaries lies in her ability in making her characters dominate the situations. She clothed her unflagging inventions, her remarkable character-drawing, and her unswerving reality of situation in a style so distinguished that we read her fiction for the sheer joy of tasting the fine phrasing which fits its theme with unobtrusive nicety.' The four stories in the present edition were selected on the basis of most favorable reviews by literary critics, plus an inclination toward textual and geographical variety--Rome, New York, Paris and England" (Per, "Announcing A New De Luxe Limited Edition... ). DESCRIPTION: A handsome antique vermilion and beige Fortuny print, hand-blocked in Venice, over boards, with a matching quarter cloth backstrip, fore- and tail edges uncut, title page in orange and gray, each of the four stories opens with an illustration in colour with a Victorian armorial-shaped gray background, an inner frame printed in a different color for each story, printed on the gray backgrounds are line drawings i … [Click Below for Full Description]

Child of God Cormac McCarthy 1975 Chatto and Windus : London 8" by 5" 197pp SUMMARY The first UK edition of this Cormac McCarthy classic First Edition,With Dustwrapper Overall Condition: Very Good Indeed This book weighs 0.5 KG when packed Australia Postage: £ Free UK Postage: £ 3.99 US Postage: £ 15.99 EU Postage: £ 13.99 European Postage: £ 14.99 Asia Postage: £ 19.99 Worldwide Postage: £ 19.99 DESCRIPTION It depicts the life of a violent young outcast in 1960s Tennessee. Like its predecessor, Outer Dark, Child of God established McCarthy's interest in using extreme isolation, perversity, and violence to represent normal human experience. McCarthy ignores literary conventions -- for example, he does not use quotation marks -- and switches between several styles of writing such as matter-of-fact descriptions, almost poetic prose, and colloquial first-person narration (with the speaker remaining unidentified). CONDITION In black cloth bindings with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, smart, with just some slight shelfwear. Dustwrapper is smart also, though with some foxing to the inner flyleaf. Internally, firmly bound. Ink signature to front free-endpaper. Pages are bright, and generally clean. PINTER, Harold.
London Eyre Methuen, 1975. First edition, signed presentation copy from the author; 8vo; publisher's boards, dust-jacket, mild toning but overall an attractive sharp copy. Inscribed by the author across the title page 'September 1975 to Peter with my love Harold'. An attractive signed first edition of this 1975 play by the highly-regarded playwright Harold Pinter, particularly pleasing for the inscription being so contemporary to publication. No Man's Land was put on in London's Old Vic Theatre under the direction of Peter Hall, starring John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson and Terence Rigby, to critical acclaim. A small archive of materials regarding a never-published book by the Icelandic explorer from the files of his intended publisher, Melvin Korshak's Shasta Publishers. Shasta Publishers was one of the most important small science fiction presses in the 1950s. It tried to expand into mainstream books, of which this project seems to be an example, but folded in the late 1950s. Stefansson's book was to be a retelling of close calls of other adventurers, with the author's insights from his experience as an explorer. Korshak had sold the paperback rights to Pocket Books long before the book was ready. As a result, Pocket Books was enmeshed in the sometimes-acrimonious arguments over who would pay for maps, reprint permissions, and copyediting. *** The contents of this archive are listed below. Letters are one page and typed, unless noted. *** 1) The original book contract, dated June 1, 1953, signed by Stefansson, his collaborator Olive Wilcox, Melvin Korshak, and several witnesses. *** 2) Two undated drafts, about eight pages, typed, of jacket copy or perhaps a short introduction. *** 3) Carbon copy of a letter (Mar. 22, 1954) from Stefansson to his co-author, Olive Wilcox, about good reviews for their book Explorations and expressing hope for similar success with the planned Shasta book. *** 4) Three pages of handwritten notes on Hanover Inn stationery by Korshak about the planned book, probably written during a meeting at Dartmouth mentioned in the following letter; *** 5) A two-page letter (Aug. 8, 1956) from Stephanson to Korshak, signed, asking for clarifications about details arranged by his intended co-author, Olive Wilcox, who, Stefansson writes, died "from a recurrence of cancer. It was a blessing that the final illness was short and relatively free of intense pain." *** 6-7) Carbon copy of a letter from Lawrence Hughes of Pocket Books to Stefansson (Sept. 7, 1956), corrected by hand. Stapled to this a typed letter, signed, by Stefansson in response; with an unsi
1975. Nine mixed media works on paper (one on art board), ranging from 8 by 10 to 8-1/2 by 14 inches. In these poem and word paintings, Hirschman uses pastels, watercolor, felt pen, and ballpoint pen. The paintings are typically political, with "No Nazi" slogans, calls for solidarity, and refrains about oppressed peoples. Hirschman has been called a Beat poet (he was born in 1933) but he calls himself an unreformed Communist. He has been the poet laureate of San Francisco and the writer in residence at the San Francisco Public Library. Only two paintings are signed, with initials. Those two, the largest, are somewhat faded--pin holes in the corner suggest they were posted on a wall for some time. The rest are near fine. PROVENANCE: From the large Hirshman collection assembled by the bookseller Louis Collins and consigned to Peter Howard, of Serendipity Books, in Berkeley. Acquired by us from Howard's estate. On the verso (back) of each painting is is the circled code "LC", which was Howard's code to designate material from Collins.

Colin Dexter
Colin Dexter - Last Bus To Woodstock - First UK Edition - 1975 - Macmillan A first edition, first printing published by Macmillan in 1975. A near fine book without inscriptions. The page block is tanned, but not as badly as is usually the case with this title. In a near fine unclipped wrapper - one small closed tear to the spine foot. A very nice copy indeed. Morse's first outing and a rare first book. ___________________________________________ JOHN ATKINSON BOOKS is a full-time professional bookseller in Ripon, North Yorkshire. DEXTER, Colin.
Macmillan. London 1975. First edition, first issue. DW. The page block is badly tanned as is usually the case with this title. A small rectangular piece has been neatly cut from the top right corner of the front free endpaper and apart from these faults this is a very sound copy of the first Morse title and a rare book in a very good wrapper that shows the original price of £2.50 (NOT price-clipped) and has very slight shelfwear and nicks along top and lower edges, with a small close tear to the bottom of the rear panel and is slightly sunned to spine.
