        Manuscript maquette for Creepy Castle.

London: Macmillan, , 1975. Together with a smaller manuscript book proposal and the US first edition. 2 pen and watercolour manuscripts, 1 oblong octavo (190 x 140 mm) and 1 square octavo (135 x 126 mm). Volume I: loose gatherings with illustrated wrappers, 15 double page drawings (368 x 134 mm), of which all but one feature a flap which changes the scene, and 2 single page drawings (182 x 134 mm). Volume II: bound with illustrated self-wrappers, 4 double page drawings (253 x 134 mm), one of which features 3 flaps that change the scene. Together with a copy of the US first edition of the completed book in the original pink boards and pictorial dust jacket. Housed in a red quarter morocco solander box by the Chelsea Bindery. Extremities slightly rubbed and bumped, a few small nicks and light creases to wrappers of Volume I. An excellent set with bright and crisp watercolour drawings. The original manuscript maquette of Goodall's wordless picture book, Creepy Castle, which would be published in 1975 by Macmillan in London and Atheneum in New York. While the published book conveys Goodall (1908?1996)'s inventive approach to the picture book format, it fails to fully transmit the delicate lines and colouring of the artist's lively illustrations, as evident in the current manuscript.

Size: 2 Vols. De 28 x 18 Cm. y 57,5 x 39 Cm. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]

Typed Letter Signed and Notes for a Scientific Theory of Theological Experiences

1975. A letter dated January 27, 1975 and written to Paul [presumably Paul Williams, Dick's close friend and eventual biographer] transmitting chapter one of Confessions [of a Crap Artist] (not included here) and, included here, two pages of "theological ramblings" related to Dick's "beginning to fashion a scientific theory about [his] theological experiences..." The letter covers a bit about the retrograde forces such as tachyons bleeding back at Earth due to the weakening field of time; one of the two pages of notes considers humans' (and Dick's) roles as avatars, with knowledge received from the Holy Spirit; the other page considers our inability to recognize God and postulates a "SF novel: Hefestus as VALIS" -- a very early mention of the acronym Dick developed for the "Vast Active Living Intelligence System" that he considered to be the nature of reality and the universe, after his psychological/religious epiphanies that he experienced in February and March of 1974. The theological writings are from the early pages of what came to be known as his Exegesis, which, by the time of his death in 1982, had reached over 8000 pages of religious and metaphysical insight and speculation. The letter, signed by Dick, runs about 225 words; the theological musings about 950 words. Near fine. First Edition. No Binding. Near Fine.

No Binding. Near Fine.

        Richard Lindner.

Paris: Fernand Mourlot, (1975). Elephant folio. (38)ff. One of 150 copies. Contains ten lithographs measuring 28 1/2 by 20 3/4 inches, each signed by the artist, Richard Lindner, and numbered and counter-initialed by Fernand Mourlot, the printer/publisher who produced the lithographs. In his introduction, Ionesco describes Lindner as "one of the great contemporary masters. His work lies within the realm of caricature, painting, and theater. It is interpretation of reality, but reality is not realistic." Mourlot, who worked with all the great artists of the twentieth century, writes that Lindner created ten original gouaches and watercolors for this series, supervised the transfer to the stones, corrected the colors, retouched the plates, and oversaw the printing with such a perfectionist's eye that "only Marc Chagall forced us to run the plates so many times through the presses." An extremely fine copy, loose as issued, in a printed quarter-vellum clamshell box.

The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B & Back Again)

New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich Publishers, 1975 First edition, first printing. Signed by Warhol on the half-title: "AW". Publisher's red-orange cloth and yellow boards, lettered in black and white; in the original black dust jacket designed by Herb Lubalin, with a photograph of the author by Philippe Halsman to the front panel, lettered in white and yellow. Book fine; unclipped dust jacket with a hint of wear to head of spine, else fine. A bright and fresh copy, signed by Warhol. The Philosophy of Andy Warhol is Warhol's second commercially published book, created after he had been established as a major 20th century artist and international celebrity. Although it was professionally published, The Philosophy of Andy Warhol is only marginally more serious than his art books; the text is abstract, more a collection of scattered reflections and thoughts than a cohesive narrative. It covers a variety of subjects, including Warhol's thoughts on his childhood, his life as a celebrity, art, New York, life, and love. The Philosophy of Andy Warhol was largely ghostwritten by Warhol's secretary Pat Hackett, to whom the book is dedicated; in his subsequent commercial publications, Warhol included Hackett as a co-author.. Signed by Author. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Fine/Dust Jacket Included.
