        Salem's Lot

Garden City: Doubleday. 1975. His second novel. Inscribed by King in the year of publication: "For ____, from your mother -- / I hope you enjoy it and have a Merry Christmas!/ Stephen King/ November 20, 1975." A small skinned spot on the front free endpaper makes this a near fine copy in a near fine, corner-clipped second issue dust jacket (with the printed price $7.95 and the reference to "Father Cody" in the flap text), with modest corner rubbing and a strip of offsetting to the rear panel. An attractive copy of this book, much better than usually found, and with the earliest King inscription we have seen in it. Early King books with contemporary inscriptions are extremely uncommon: the first printings were small and the books didn't sell particularly well. It wasn't until about 1980 that his books were bestsellers immediately upon publication. Also, King didn't do the extensive author tours that later became the norm for promoting books. First Edition. Hardcover.

Max Ernst: OEuvre-Katalog, 1906-1963. The Complete Paintings, Drawings, Sculpture, Frottages, Collages and Graphics. Volumes I- VI.

Houston, Tex.: Menil Foundation-2006 Distribution by Wittenborn Art Books. 1975 - Catalogue raisonné. 6 vols.: 288, 436, 418, 412, 398, 420 pp.; 656, 796, 774, 776, 743, 740 monochrome illustrations, respectively. Text in English, German and French. Catalogue descriptions in German with English language glossary. Cloth in dust jackets in cardboard slipcases. This set includes the volume on the graphic work. Michael Snow: Cover to Cover

Nova Scotia College of Art & Design and New York University Press, Halifax, Nova Scotia and New York 1975 - First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Photographically illustrated cloth-covered boards, no dust jacket as issued. Artist's book by Michael Snow. Photography by Keith Lock. Photography and prints by Vince Sharp. Unpaginated, with 312 full-bleed black and white plates. 9 x 7 inches. Out of print. Extremely scarce. CONDITION: Fine. A Near Mint copy. [Cited in Martin Parr and Gerry Badger, The Photobook: A History, Volume II. (London and New York: Phaidon, 2006).] Conceptual artist Michael Snow here presents an intriguing artist's book that engages with and questions the nature of photographic veracity and the legibility of surfaces--a stance that is somewhat akin to the work of his contemporaries Kenneth Josephson, Robert Cumming and Duane Michals. As its title implies, Cover to Cover, which contains no text save the colophon, can be read forwards and backwards, with both sections converging towards the center. Both the front and back covers are illustrated with a detailed photograph of a wood-paneled door, and as the reader progresses through the pages, which unfold as a quasi-cinematic non-linear narrative, a succession of full-bleed images leads into and through spaces and surfaces that continuously vacillate between illusory physical and representational existence. The appearance of figures, cameras, images within images, blank sheets of paper, windows and doorways on each page enacts a slippage that renders the photographic images and their referents unstable. The result is an important book that is difficult to put down, challenging readers to read and reread its imagery almost compulsively. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]

        Flirt

[Pittsburgh]: [International Poetry Forum]. [1975]. A broadside poem, measuring approximately 9" x 12", reproducing the author's holograph and his signature. Approximately 500 copies printed for distribution at a reading, using paper of various sizes and colors. This copy is 8-3/4" x 11-3/4", light brown, and as such not noted in the De Bellis/Broomfield bibliography. Additionally, this copy is actually signed by Updike, below the facsimile signature, and dated 7/13/91. Tiny spots of foxing, near fine; now framed to 12-1/2" x 15-1/2". Much scarcer than its estimated print run would suggest, and extremely scarce signed. That this variant eluded the bibliographers, who were almost unbelievably thorough in tracking down the multitude of issues of Updike's enormous body of work, also suggests extreme scarcity. First Edition.

        8 1/2" X 11 1/2" ORIGINAL PEN AND INK PICTURE

1975., 1975. Art depicts two Indian boys riding on a horse in front of three Indian teepees with people going about their work and two automobiles parked to one side of a tent. The work is signed by Fellows with his familiar Cowboy Artists of America insignia just below his signature. "Born in Ponca City, Oklahoma, Fred Fellows lived his early years exposed to the 101 Ranch and the culture of the Otoe and Osage Native Americans. At age nine his family joined the tail-end of the Okie exodus that followed the dust bowl trail to California but each year Fred returned to Oklahoma where he spent summers with his grandparents in their art-filled home. His grandfather a celebrated civil industrial engineer in Ponca City would take his family frequently to nearby museums. Fred was awe struck by Bryant Bakers Pioneer Woman monument in Ponca City. Although he did not realize it then, Fred’s fate as a future artist had been cast. He had an active imagination and a God given talent for drawing." Fellows was elected into membership in the Cowboy Artists of America in 1968 and in 1997 was elected president of the Cowboy Artists of America. By 2003, he had presided over the organization twice. His paintings and sculptures have been featured in many magazines throughout the country, among them Arizona Highways, Western Horseman, Newsweek, and Southwest Art and Architecture Digest. He has won many awards for his artwork including several from the CAA including Gold Medal for Most Popular Work in 1976, Silver Medal for Sculpture in 1991-1995, and Best of Show in 1991. He was honored to have had a retrospective at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2002. This original black and white ink sketch is matted and protected by a transparent shrinkwrap film. Fine.

The New Reformers" [Original Photo-Collage of Burroughs and Gysin]

Geneve: Francoise Lagarde / Le Colloque de Tanger, 1975. First Edition. Fine. Original B&W silver gelatin print. 12” X 9.5”. Photographer's stamp to verso. One of 50 numbered copies. SIGNED by Burroughs and signed and date by Gysin to recto. Fine condition. Famous image of Burroughs and Gysin, a photo-collage of their heads atop two stone relief figures (one of whom is Martin Luther - the full relief can be seen on the rear jacket of THE THIRD MIND). It was utilized for the posters promoting Le Colloque de Tanger, a September 1975 conference held in Geneva celebrating the work of Burroughs and Gysin. Lagarde helped organize the event with Gerard-George Lemaire and produced a portfolio of photographs in conjunction. This photograph was separately issued and is more uncommon than perhaps even the limitation might suggest. As Shoaf describes: "Atticus Books Catalogue Eight notes 'Planned for publication but never released.' It is believed that most went to Richard Aaron [Am Here Books] but they apparently were never distributed" (p. 107). [Schottlaender F38].
