Dog Soldiers; [with:] A Hall of Mirrors.

New York: Ballantine Books,, 1975. 2 works, octavo. Original wrappers, titles to spines and front covers in black and red, and yellow and blue, all edges of Hall of Mirrors yellow. A little creasing to wrappers, some rubbing to extremities, light foxing to edges; a very good set. First Ballantine Books editions, first printings. Presentation copies, inscribed by the author on the title pages, "For Dink Bruce, with thanks and best wishes, Bob Stone". The recipient was Benjamin "Dink" Bruce, a cult figure in Key West, Florida. Dink's father Telly Otto Bruce ("Toby") originally moved to Key West at the behest of his Arkansas friend Ernest Hemingway in 1935, serving the author in a vague capacity of general fixer for some thirty years, and Dink later became a local cult figure in his own right: "Bruce seemed to cross paths with every celebrity who came through Key West. He didn't seek them out; they found him. In Key West, Dink Bruce was royalty" (McKeen, Mile Marker Zero: The Moveable Feast of Key West, p. 90). Robert Stone lived in Key West until his death in 2015. Dog Soldiers was first published by Houghton Mifflin in 1974, A Hall of Mirrors was first published in 1966, also by Houghton Mifflin. Dog Soldiers is a National Book Award Winner and was adapted by Stone and Judith Rascoe into the 1978 film Who'll Stop the Rain.

Granite & Cypress: Rubbings from the Rock. Poems Gathered from the Stonemason Years When Submission to the Spirit of Granite in the Building of House & Tower & Wall Focused His Imagination & Gave Massive Permanence to His Verse.

Lime Kiln Press, 1975., University of California at Santa Cruz: - Oblong folio. [58] pp. Printed on English Hayle handmade paper, title-page woodcut by William Prochnow. Bound by Schuberth Bookbindery in German linen, open-laced deerskin over Monterey Cypress spine, Japanese Uwa end-papers. Custom slipcase made of Monterey Cypress inlaid with a square "window" of granite from Jeffers' stoneyard (drawn by the poet from the sea), built to stand erect on a felt-lined cypress stand; case with hair-line crack, else fine. SIGNED by printer William Everson in ink at limitation page. Prospectus signed by Everson and three proof-sheets laid-in. LIMITED EDITION of 100 numbered copies. EXCEPTIONALLY RARE presentation of Jeffers' powerful collection, housed in a beautiful case meant to stand on its own as a work of art. This unique blending of physical and lyrical expression weaves together layers of meaning in a celebration of permanence, poetry, and fine presswork, resulting in a truly outstanding piece. The Lime Kiln Press was a hand-press workshop run by Everson at UC Santa Cruz. Granite & Cypress is its third publication. "Perhaps the most extraordinary of Everson's lifelong attempts to create the unified or 'sacral' book, in fact, involves the printing of Robinson Jeffers' Granite & Cypress: Rubbings from the Rock. Every aspect of the poetic content, the landscape against which the poems were written, and the nature of the poet himself has been taken into account in the designing of this artifact" (Bartlett, p. 207). In a letter to critic and author Lawrence Clark Powell, Jeffers' wife, Una, writes: "The conflict of motives on the subject of going to war or not was probably one of several important factors that, about this time, made the world and his own mind much more real and intense to him. Another factor was the building of Tor House. As he helped the masons shift and place the wind and wave-worn granite I think he realized some kinship with it, and became aware of strengths in himself unknown before" (Jeffers in Occidental College, p. 4). From the prospectus: "Readers will find here, then, four unprecedented features. In the book itself they will read together for the first time the nuclear body of poems which Jeffers wrote under the impact of stone, the transforming symbol of his creative emergence. They will see the long Jeffers line extended to its natural outreach, like the pulse and withdrawal of the tides to which he attributed his prosody. They will find a typography in which the implication of stone is carried to the ultimate, registering the wave-worn permanence of his mood and themes. And in the incomparable case which enshrines the whole they will possess the architectonic resolution of all these elements, memorializing the achievement of a spirit intense but serene, and the passionate instinct, immoderate and fierce, by which he will always live." Bartlett, Lee. Benchmark & Blaze: The Emergence of William Everson. Lanham, MD: Scarecrow Press, 1979; Jeffers, Una, Occidental College, and Robinson Jeffers Committee. Robinson Jeffers Newsletter, (1975). [Attributes: Signed Copy; Soft Cover]

        Salem's Lot

New York: Doubleday(1975). SIGNED by author. 1st edition, 1st printing, Doubleday, 1975. This 1st printing (stated on copyright page) book's dustjacket had 3 issues: the 1st rumored to be only 25 copies priced at $8.95, all kept in-house by Doubleday and never published with the book. This is the 2nd issue dustjacket - very scarce because of the Father Cody mistake on the front flap (later corrected in the 3rd issue to Father Callahan) that was price clipped by Doubleday and repriced at $7.95 printed beside the publisher clip. The book has the required (to be a real 1st printing) Q37 code at the lower end of the gutter of the last text page. The book is Near Fine+. Straight, clean, tight, no binding spots or soiling, with just slight softening to the cloth at spine ends and a few very small, very faint tanned spots to outer page edges near the back of the text block, and on the top of the front free end page the previous owner's name plus in different writing her place and dates of birth and death. The book is SIGNED by Stephen King on the title page, right below his publisher printed name - just his name with no inscription.A lovely example of King's 2nd book, and a Fine example of the fragile dustjacket (usually found chipped and tattered). Even the red part of the lettering on the spine isn't faded as you usually find it. Only things keeping it from being As New is a tiny trace of white showing through the black at the front flap fold line, and a couple of very tiny professional edge repairs. Collector's copy. Made into a TV series, which is what really got King's career started. ; 8-7/16" x 5-3/4"; 439 pages; Signed by Author, 10, 20, 25, NF/F

        Jean Tinguely: "Méta"

Boston: New York Graphic Society, 1975. Boards lightly discolored, overall near fine with a lock and handle, to mimic a briefcase.. First American Edition, number B-45 from an edition of 250 copies (an additional 250 "A" copies were released for the British Thames & Hudson edition). Quarto in lockable boards with a handle. With a perforated SIGNED mechanical "meta-matic" drawing by Tinguely bound-in. Elaborately produced book, with many fold outs and bound in sheets of printed vellum. Aptly captures Tinguely's chaotic creative practice.
