?Ariel Sharon is one of our army?s greatest commanders. He is convinced that in his new position he will be able to contribute to the nation?s security, and of course we have to trust his opinion. Mr. Rabin is the Prime Minister ? It is the opposition?s duty to strive for change and sometimes also to demonstrate unity, as we have done lately, with regard to denying the demands by Egypt in March??

Typed Letter Signed ?M. Begin? in Hebrew, 1p, 6.25? x 8?. The Knesset [Jerusalem, Israel], June 19, 1975. To David Avni, Jerusalem. On Knesset member stationery. Two file holes in blank right margin with reinforcement on verso. One letter edit in Begin?s hand. Fine condition. In full, ?Thank you for your additional letter of 1 Tammuz 5735 ?" June 10, 1975. I appreciated your response to my words on the subject: Who is a Jew. And with regard to your additional queries: Ariel Sharon is one of our army?s greatest commanders. He is convinced that in his new position he will be able to contribute to the nation?s security, and of course we have to trust his opinion. Mr. Rabin is the Prime Minister; we serve our people in a parliamentary opposition. It is the opposition?s duty to strive for change and sometimes also to demonstrate unity, as we have done lately, with regard to denying the demands by Egypt in March. Therefore, this is not a personal question.?On March 20, 1975, the Israeli government issued the following statement, in part, ?Egypt demanded Israeli withdrawal from the Mitla and Gidi passes and the Abu Rudeis oil fields, but was unwilling to end the state of war. Israel offered to withdraw from the Abu Rudeis area and from the western half of the passes in return for a long term Egyptian agreement to refrain from the use of force in the future. Israel also asked for limitation of the Arab boycott, propaganda and political warfare. Israel also wanted to retain its early warning station at Um Hashiba, but Egypt refused to agree to this even though Israel suggested the construction of a similar Egyptian station in the U.N. controlled buffer zone...?Gen. Yitzhak Rabin, former Israeli Army Chief of Staff, was elected to the Knesset (parliament) as a member of the Labour Party in December 1973 and joined Prime Minister Golda Meir's cabinet as Minister of Labour in March 1974. After Meir resigned in April, he became party leader and, in June, Israel's first native-born Prime Minister. Begin was a member of the opposition Likud Party.Gen. Ariel Sharon, 1956 and 1967, who captured the strategic Mitla pass in the Sinai Peninsula in 1956 and 1967, was recalled to command the Armored Division during the 1973 Yom Kippur War and led the crossing of Suez Canal. Instrumental in the formation of the Likud party, in 1974, he became a member of the Knesset and served as Security and Defense Advisor to Prime Minister Rabin.

The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B & Back Again)

Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, New York and London, 1975. 242 pages. The book is in near fine condition save for some slight shelfwear to the edges of the boards, a slight darkening to the top edge of the boards, and a faint dark spot on the top of the pageblock. The dustjacket is in equally bright condition, is non price-clipped, with only the faintest degree of shelfwear, and now encased in a Mylar protective sleeve. Aside from the following inscription, there are no other internal markings. This copy is inscribed in pencil by the author/artist on the half title "to Mary Jane / with much love AW." Aside from this common and typically Warholian signature, there is another perhaps more typical bold black marker "AW" inscribed on the same page, with a decidedly more atypical "Andy Warhol" inscribed in pencil along the bottom edge. Additionally, as he has done on other copies, he has dashed off a quick full page pencil sketch of a Campbell's Soup Can, here identified as "Oil Soup," no doubt in homage to Oil City Houston, which he visited frequently, was supported, embraced and enthusiastically patronized, and where this copy was signed. A stated first edition, followed by the letters "B C D E" indicating that it is a first impression of the first edition. This is a bright, clean, and sharp copy of a major literary and artistic work by arguably the most influential artist of the twentieth century, with an inscription testifying to his love of the city of Houston and the people he knew here.. Inscribed by the Artist. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Fine Condition.

The artwork is depicted as the artist originally intended with nudity of several male figures. This edition does not have the clothed figures of all subsequent editions of the deck. At the time of its printing, the deck was considered a gay-themed deck.Originally published in 1975 by the artist and simply titled THE TAROT, Yeager's Tarot was acquired for publication by U.S. Games Systems in 1983, and renamed YEAGER TAROT OF MEDITATION. However, when Yeager's tarot was released to a mass market audience, some changes were made -- most of the cards that showed male nudity were reworked to clothe the figures on the cards. (Interestingly, the cards depicting only female nudity were left unchanged). If you would like to see a picture, email me.

The Man Who Wrote Dracula & Two Bonus Items [hand-Written Letter & Bram Stoker's Calling Card]

Michael Joseph, London 1975 - A biography of Bram Stoker, written by the great nephew of Bram Stoker. The original dustjacket accompanies this wonderful book. It has an image of Bram Stoker to the front panel, with enhanced spooky eyes that shine from the illustration. Jacket photo: Chris Yates. The dustjacket is in a very nice condition. With very minor creasing, mainly to the inner prelims front and rear. Little browning to the edges of the prelims also. Price is intact. Now housed in a removable plastic archival sleeve. Wine coloured boards with gold/gilt lettering to the spine. Boards are in a very good, clean condition. Front blank endpage is adhered to inner board [often done to strengthen the page block]. One small fox spot to the front endpage, and occasionally throughout the book. The full title page had a very small hole in it in the centre so I have adhered a photocopy of Bram Stoker's actual calling card over this, and the same on the rearside of that page, which is the copyright page. There are 14 illustrations between pages 96-97. The first is a full page plate of Bram Stoker, signed by him in 1884. It is a magnificent portrait of him as a younger man, taken while he was in New York! There is a picture of his wife Florence and their son Noel. There is a signed portrait of Bram Stoker's Grandfather: Tom Stoker. There is a drawing of Florence by Oscar Wilde., and another of her drawn by Edward Burne-Jones. There is a picture of henry Irving [Bram Stoker's great friend]. There is one of Ellen Terry with her dogs. There is one of the Lyceum Theatre. There is one of the ruins of Castle Erroll, intact in Stoker's day, at Cruden Bay, north of Aberdeen [Scotland], where he wrote 'Dracula'. One of the snowbound graveyard at Whitby, as Bram Stoker would have known it. There is a portrait of Vlad Dracula, alleged by some to have been the inspiration for Stoker's novel of Dracula. There is a scene from 'Dracula on film', one of the many portrayals by Christopher Lee, who kindly supplied this still for the book. [For once, the concept is close to Stoker's original, complete with the white moustache!]. The final plate is a full page plate of Bran Castle in Romania, where Vlad Dracula stayed and has now become a part of the 'Dracula Tour'. There are 240 pages in all which include an index to the rear. The pages are clean throughout apart from a very occasional fox spot. On the inner rear board is a photocopy of a letter that was hand-written by Bram Stoker on 30.11.97 [same year as dracula was first published]. The letter is headed: PROVINCIAL TOUR, 1897. The letter starts: Dear Sir, and there is a message in the middle but I cannot decipher what it says but it is signed by 'Bram Stoker' and the letter is dated 30.11.97. Seems to be for someone called 'BW Hartley'. It's a nice ending to the book. ----- POSTAGE OPTIONS: Our orders are shipped within 1 or 2 business days. --- If you select 'Priority' as the postal option, you will get the fastest option.       New York: Knopf. Mimeographed unbound galleys of the rough typed manuscript, 483 pages constituting approximately half of the book. Very good+ in printer's carton and box with typed label. An early state of this National Book Award winner, one of the great novels of our time.. New York, Knopf, [1975]. 4°. 483 pages. Kardcover Box. Mimeographed unbound galleys of the rough typed manuscript, 483 pages constituting approximately half of the book. Very good+ in printer's carton and box with typed label. An early state of this National Book Award winner, one of the great novels of our time. William Gaddis (December 29, 1922 ?- December 16, 1998) was an American novelist. He wrote five novels, two of which won National Book Awards. Gaddis was born in New York City to William Thomas Gaddis, who worked "on Wall Street and in politics," and Edith Gaddis, an executive for the New York Steam Corporation. When he was 3, his parents separated and Gaddis was subsequently raised by his mother in Massapequa, Long Island. At age 5 he was sent to Merricourt Boarding School in Berlin, Connecticut. He continued in private school until the eighth grade, after which he returned to Long Island to receive his diploma at Farmingdale High School in 1941. He entered Harvard in 1941 and famously wrote for the Harvard Lampoon (where he eventually served as President), but was asked to leave in 1944, supposedly because of a drunken brawl, though the circumstances are unclear. He worked as a fact checker for The New Yorker for two years, then spent five years traveling in Central America, the Caribbean, North Africa, and Paris, returning to the United States in 1951. His first novel, The Recognitions, appeared in 1955. A lengthy, complex, and allusive work, it had to wait to find its audience. Newspaper reviewers considered it overly intellectual, overwritten, and perhaps on the principle of omne ignotum per obscaenum ("all that is unknown appears obscene"), filthy. (The book was defended by Jack Green in a series of broadsheets blasting the critics; the series was collected later under the title Fire the Bastards!) Shortly after the publication of The Recognitions, Gaddis married his first wife, Patricia Black, who would give birth to his only children, Sarah (who has written a novel, Swallow Hard, inspired by her relationship with her father) and Matthew. Gaddis then turned to public relations work and the making of documentary films to support himself and his family. In this role he worked for Pfizer, Eastman Kodak, IBM, and the United States Army, among others. He also received a National Institute of Arts and Letters grant, a Rockefeller grant, and two National Endowment for the Arts grants, all of which helped him write his second novel. In 1975 he published J R, a work even more difficult than The Recognitions, told almost entirely in dialogue, where it is sometimes difficult to determine which character is speaking. Its eponymous protagonist, an 11-year-old, learns enough about the stock market from a class field trip to build a financial empire of his own. Critical opinion had caught up with him, and the book won the National Book Award for Fiction. His marriage to his second wife, Judith Thompson, dissolved shortly after J R was published. By the late 1970s, Gaddis had entered into a relationship with Muriel Oxenberg Murphy, and they lived together until the mid-1990s. Carpenter's Gothic (1985) offered a shorter and more accessible picture of Gaddis's sardonic worldview. Instead of struggling against misanthropy (as in The Recognitions) or reluctantly giving ground to it (as in JR), Carpenter's Gothic wallows in it. The continual litigation that was a theme in that book becomes the central theme and plot device in A Frolic of His Own (1994)—which earned him his second National Book Award and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction—where it seems that everyone is suing someone. There is even a Japanese car called the Sosumi. (Gaddis has never been afraid of the pun. There is a character in The Recognitions named Recktall Brown.) Gaddis died of prostate cancer on December 16, 1998, but not before creating his final work, Agape- Agape (the first word of the title is the Greek agape-, meaning divine, unconditional love), which was published in 2002, a novella in the form of the last words of a character similar but not identical to his creator. The Rush for Second Place, published at the same time, collected most of Gaddis's previously published nonfiction. After years of critical neglect, Gaddis is now often acknowledged as being one of the greatest of American post-war novelists. His influence is vast (although frequently subterranean): for example, postmodern authors such as Don DeLillo and Thomas Pynchon seem to have been influenced by Gaddis, as well as authors such as Joseph McElroy, William Gass, David Markson, Jonathan Franzen, and David Foster Wallace, who have all stated their admiration for Gaddis in general and The Recognitions in particular. His life and work are the subject of a comprehensive website, The Gaddis Annotations, which has been noted in at least one academic journal as a superior example of scholarship using new media resources. Gaddis's papers are collected at Washington University in St. Louis. (Wikipedia)
